What are some really good general purpose all around combat boots? Wanting to get a pair and also use them for riding my motorcycle.

Are these really good? Is there better on this site?

I've had really good luck with anything Rocky. Last couple of pairs have been Alpha Forces. Probably look like a fag wearing duty boots everyday but it's what's comfortable for me, and I can usually get a year and a half out of everyday wear from them so they are pretty sturdy. Great ankle support too, only detractor for me is the glued sole.

You're a fucking retard. Steel toe prevents that. My steel toe boots saved my left foot when a fucking boot LAV25 crewman ran over my foot without a ground guide back when I was active duty Marine Corps . My foot was fine. Fuck off with your uneducated memes.
>>
>>32096484
>>32096504
>steeltoe is fine!!!1
>steel doesnt bend of break ever!!1

m8
its this fucking simple

when a steel toe bends, it doesnt just pop back in to place. it fucking cuts your foot in half

when a double reinforced hardened leather boot bends, it pops back into place, and your toe is fine at best, and broken at worst

steel toe offers some better protection in a slight margin that the leather one is too weak to prevent break, but the steel is too strong to bend. before that margin, both boots are fine, but past the margin one will maim you

enjoy your stump feet, you'd fit in with the retards slinging chain in the oil fields with 4 fingers
>>
>>32091129
>Wanting to get a pair and also use them for riding my motorcycle.

You should not wear regular work boots to ride a motorcycle. Motorcycling boots are specifically designed with crashing in mind and offer specific features for that like reinforcing and padding certain areas. Work boots offer little more protection than regular shoes.

Clarks or Black converse for the summer, tall brown leather boots, like a kiltie boot, for the winter. Mink oil anything .leather and wear wool socks and you'll be good for most of North America.

My opinion has always been this: what civilian articles can I press into my own service? Its framed in the context of being an insurgent. It wouldn't be feasible to blend into a civilian crowd dressed in coyote tan or operator gear, j need boots that look like work boots or just civilian shoes that can hold up reasonably well for a period of about a month pushed out.

Aren't they tall to simulate leg wrapping which keep blood circulating instead of settling at the bottom.

Like how sashes are the precursor to back braces in how they both prevent hernias and give the body something to brace against.

Just make your socks taller than the lip and it'll circulate fine

I'm thinking of heading out to a Red Wing dealer this weekend and buying some boots, it's definitely time and I have the money now. I'm thinking I'll probably pick up the Iron Ranger style, anyone have those? I just want a good boot that can go on hikes and to the range and still look good with jeans or slacks.
>>
>>32099688
here's a (You), for you
>>
>>32101022
Haven't worn the Iron Ranger, but have worn 3 other styles of Red Wings that have all been great. I think about anything from them will be good. Deff go try them on, but keep an open mind to the 8" styles too. I wore 6" for years, recently switched to an 8" and have been very happy with the extra ankle support.
>>
>>32101344
I really like the idea of 8'' boots, but I hate the soles of all the 8'' boots on the RW site (both the color and the tread style). I would love an 8'' pair with the soles of the blacksmith or iron ranger style, but I don't think they have something like that. The engineer style is okay, but I prefer lace ups for the ability to control how tight the boot is. I will have to go in and check them all out, and I'll definitely try some 8" ones on.
>>
>>32101022
Iron rangers are fashion boots. Granted, they're made well, and will last a decent amount of time if they're taken care of and not put through the wringer. But they're not really built for hard use.

>>
>>32102147
Could you recommend me another brand then? I'm fine with them being "fashion boots" so long as they are made well and will hold up with daily wear. I already have boots for work, so these would just be for weekend trips and general wear when out doing stuff. They seem well made to me, and most people seem to agree that they're well made so I'm not too worried about them falling apart. I also like they way they look and they seem very versatile.
>>
>>32096443
>>32096504
>>32102307
The important thing to bear in mind is what the boot is rated for. There's steel toe boots rated for fucking nothing that are there to tick the box for safety equipment for guys working in a light warehouse where a 5kg box is about the heaviest thing they'll ever have to deal with, and there's decent boots with a toe rated for tons that you can literally drive a truck over and the driver will feel more than you.

Yes if you wear a cheap boot with a minimal level of protection and get run over by something way too heavy for it you might well end up with worse injuries due to the toe collapsing and chopping your foot in half, so you just make sure if you're going to be wearing the boot in an environment that might present a serious load that you get something up to the job, instead of jewing yourself because >it'll never happen to me

>Work boots are a retarded meme.

>

Work boots aren't a meme, but very few people in the US actually need work boots that are substantially different than general boots. I think it's become a meme in that people want to justify expensive boots because they like the way they look more than sneakers or loafers. So, they buy "work boots" because they think to themselves "oh, I'll wear these at work even though I work IT in an office and rarely go outside". If you have a job that actually requires boots for work, you don't usually care too much because you only wear them to that job and you have other boots or other shoes for general wear.

>>
>>32106186
Yeah weren't zipper boots currently from the military because of how shitty they are?
>>
Reminder that a good majority of people walking around don't have properly fitted shoes. Always make sure the shoes aren't too small where foot movement is restricted, or too large where your foot is shifting around a lot while walking.

Reminder that if your new boots pinch you in the outside areas of the feet (tight), it's time to go up a size in width; the leather in most boots will not stretch out enough to eliminate the problem altogether, so don't kid yourself into thinking it still needs more break-in period.

Reminder that when you insert both your index and middle fingers down the back heel of your shoe, if it's too tight to fit then the shoe is too small. Conversely, if there's too much space between your two fingers, your heel, and the wall of the shoe, then it's time to get a smaller size. Ideally your fingers should feel snug in your shoe.

Reminder that your feet swell after walking around for the day. Take this into account, along with sock thickness, when going shoe shopping.

Reminder that there is a skeleton inside you THIS VERY MOMENT.
>>
>>32106280
I haven't had any issues with the zipper so far, I like the ease of use, plus if you have to remove the boot to treat any injuries you can take it off faster.

Steel toes cutting off feet is a lie and a meme. Show one example of that happening ever. Why do you think they are mandatory in all construction and heavy industries. Steel toe doesn't have to be made of steel, there are carbon fibre ones etc too, but a properly re-enforced toe is very useful.

I have had elevator counteweights fall on my steel toe, I have had a car drive over my steel toe, boot undamaged and my foot intact. You're basically spouting fuddlore. Ignorant memes that you heard off some guys uncle.

When I'm shopping around, it seems like some boots are totally flat on the bottom, like in this one:
>>32091398
And they're sort of like sneakers. On other boots, there is a distinct heel, like
>>32091129
for example.

It seems like boots made for hiking and general outdoors stuff have a distinct heel, while many military boots (modern ones at least) have flat soles. What is the reason for this? Are the flat soled ones better for long marches with a lot of gear? Is it just aesthetics? Maybe it has something to do with heels being easier to trip on stuff or have it catch somewhere?

Why being able to change the soles is a bad thing?

Ive had the iron rangers for about a year, i can say theyre great boots and have held up well in rain sleet and snow, but i wouldnt operate in them desu. They are more good looking as opposed to operating in

Because when the outer sole starts to come off, and that happens rather often, it can't be properly reattached.
Resoling the entire thing is possible, but is rather tricky and time consuming.

I've heard they are just designed to fail at some point and the sole starts crumbling apart. Then you just replace the boots.

I bought Frye 12" harness boots for riding (and everyday wearing). Best boot is best

>designed to fail
Those boots are issued by the army and last 10 years at minima. That's not what I would call designed to fail
>>
>>32111943
You're thinking of it's predecessor, the BW Kampfstiefel 2000. These were indeed notorious for midsoles that started crumbling apart after about 2 years, not all of them have it though.

But those danner tachyons look unlined and thin, while they're a good color for the winter, nothing about them looks like it'd be a good choice for any sort of cold environment.

Probably doesn't get much better than this.

How do you tell the difference? Is there some mark I should be looking for? I feel like a lot of sellers would take advantage of a buyer and sell them the disposable boot at the quality boots price.

>>32114706
They don't even look the same. Just compare the two pictures

Please send me encouragement to break in my new boots that came in today: I haven't had a new pair of boots in years, and the stiffness and lack of familiar comfort is seriously putting me off.

This guy has the right idea with he words:

GOOD FOR SHIFTER CLEARANCE

I see a lot of boots ITT that might have a hard time getting under the average shifter without adjustments.
>>
>>32114751
Just throw them on and wear them everywhere. Nothing beats the feeling of well broken in boots. Just lace them up and go for a hike. You'll be stuck out in the woods with nothing to do besides walk. It might suck at first but it's so worth it later on.
>>
>>32116126
I'm trying to wear them as much as possible. Trying to bend and squat and shit as much as possible while wearing them. I hope I don't separate the heel from the upper though, cos one of them looks like it's on its way to doing that

>>

Another anon gave me shit, but they're replica WWII US roughout boots, from SM Wholesale. Say what you will about spending 170 on a damn replica, but the way I see it is good boots cost around that either way.

Anyway, they seem like nicely made boots: thick leather, good stitching, ect. STIFF soles though.
