Found this on AKfiles thread
http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=286811&page=16

Well, let me tell you about this one time at Rob camp. You see, I know an AK company that got 6 or 7 sample extractors in for testing built to the AK companies print. They decided not to use them because they broke during testing from what they determined the heat treat was to high, near 58RC. All of them broke in under 1K rounds. Now, there was a few of those extractors left in a small bag that was properly labeled with the date, vendor and a note not to use. They don't know the exact number, maybe two or three were left, but that was it. Now, fast forward to today, that little bag is now missing, but they do have a broken extractor that was sent from Rob camp that they measured at about 58 to 60RC. Now that CEO when he found out about that little bag with those few extractors missing got down right pissed. The rest of the story should not be told to sensitive ears.

Looks like someone at the DDI factory is getting fired, also I dont see how the CEO is a scumbag he actually talks to customers and gets on internet forums and deals with AK autists.

As I implied, I was ready to buy 2x of them after a ton of research. (It was a panic buy before election) but Rob Skis video of extractor failure got me to hold off. I still might get one but thankfully Trump won so I have plenty of time to see how other's experiences go. And in the meantime I have some others to play with.
>>
>it's another 'Nick uses the thread as his personal blog and shits everything up' episode

We get it, you were too poor for the Arsenal.
>>
>>32089451
Like:
1. That they include a rubber strip to screw on in place of the cheek riser.
2. It locks up folded over the siderail.
3. This is the first time I've had adjustable LOP on an AK and I can already see how handy it will be. For now I'm keeping it at standard Warsaw length.
4. Looks slick.

Dislike:
1. Typical Russian shoddy finish. Or might have been roughed up in the warehouse, it was clearly stored in only a plastic bag.
2. Requires quite a bit of force to extend/retract. Maybe it will smooth out over time.

Observations:
I don't have a precise scale, but the weight of the PT1 minus the cheek riser seems to be very close to a standard AK100 polymer stock with the cleaning kit inserted. Maybe an ounce or two more. Doesn't throw off the balance of the rifle.

My OPAP was one of the first batches that has night sight cutouts and from the rumors, was from factory demilled machineguns that were rebuilt into sporters for Century.

>>32089798
I want some 45 rounders but I don't think I'll ever even use them because I'd be tempted to just magdump 24/7 and IMO I just don't like the look of them in a standard AK (looks great in an RPK and looks pretty good too in a Krink, but in a rifle they just look weird to me)
>>
>>32089829

arsenal SLR's are licensed AK100 series guns, not the same parts as russian AK100 guns but they pay royalties to izhmash for them.

India makes ak100 series and so does venezuela, just because their not russian parts doesnt mean their not ak100.
>>
>>32089525
If this is true, then it goes to show that DDI did in fact identify that a batch of their extractors were shit and those in particular were not meant to be used in their guns. But why didn't they just throw them away outright? I still think that DDI holds the most promise in the US made AKs, but even given all the problems surfacing with Arsenal AKs, broken exractors won't be one of them. Canted parts and bubbly paint won't shut an AK down.

Arsenal really does need to get their shit together though. When even century is getting their barrel components on straight there's really no excuse anymore. And I still say that slight cant isn't the end of the world, but come on.
>>
>>32089858

Just run of the mill plane jane shitty paint Egyptians but I wanted them to go with my Maadi. I want a made in Egypt marked one just to have one but since there's no real difference in the two it isn't high on my priority list unless one pops up for cheap.

>What about the chink drum? 75 or 100? Factory number?
I have no idea off of the top of my head. Next time I visit my folks I want to note all this stuff because I've always been curious about the details of them all but have always been to busy doing family things to indulge my autism over AK stuff

The only 7.62x39 mags that I really have an interest in picking up are a few Russian slabsides and side stamps, maybe some aluminium waffles, at least one current 103 mag, and some visibly used/BFPU ex-Yugo mags. I'm really not as interested in picking up 7.62x39 mags as much as I am about 5.45 mags for whatever reason. I grew up with my Norinco but I've never been as interested in AKMs as I have been in 74s, especially after I finally bought an SLR104 a few years back.

the 106 is a 5.56 ak. They have a rather dodgy reputation and use an AKM bolt for it instead of a 74 bolt. According to some more knowledgeable people it's retarded and causes problems.
>>
>>32090030
SLRs aren't 100 series, like >>32090022 said they're more AKS74s with polymer and weird bastardized AKS74/AKM hybrids depending on model.

>>32090031
SGLs, yes but they were merely converted in the US and only the -94 variants with folding stocks are full on 100 series clones.

Arsenal is a confusing name because there's both Arsenal Las Vegas and Arsenal Bulgaria and they're unrelated outside of Arsenal Las Vegas importing stuff from Arsenal Bulgaria.

>>32090083
>I think Iv also seen a 106
The 106 is in 5.56 but has been discontinued (last I heard at least)

>Does anyone besides arsenal make 5.45 rifles worth getting?
Honestly besides SLRs and VEPRs (either original ones or those new ones) not really, no. At least not new. Waffen Werks was a company that made some pretty good 5.45 rifles before they went to total shit and started producing garbage. DDI did some 5.45 rifles which were good and affordable but they were a one time thing. Saigas were a possibility but they're no longer imported and have been slowly climbing in price. SGLs were great but again they're no longer imported and they've exploded a little in price. There are the offshoots from other country's rifles in 5.45 that are still available used in the US like Tantals and WASR-2s and stuff like those but again they're pretty much all second hand now and some have had issues in the past.

When it comes to 5.45 you're considerably more limited than you are with 7.62x39 rifles. The general consensus for buying a new 5.45 rifle is just buy an SLR104, buy a VEPR and convert it, try and find a leftover 5.45 Saiga and convert it, or pick up one of those new VEPRs if you're ok with their kind of goofy look.

That's what guys usually have.
Nice to have something Egyptian to go with your Maadi though.

>I want a made in Egypt marked one just to have one but since there's no real difference in the two it isn't high on my priority list unless one pops up for cheap
Yeah, that's probably not going to happen but good luck.

>I have no idea off of the top of my head
That's cool, was just curious.

>The only 7.62x39 mags that I really have an interest in picking up are a few Russian slabsides and side stamps, maybe some aluminium waffles, at least one current 103 mag, and some visibly used/BFPU ex-Yugo mags
I'd like a couple side stamps as well, I pretty much have all the rest.
Unless you're referring to slabside 103s those are on my list too.

>I've never been as interested in AKMs as I have been in 74s
Seems we're kinda opposite ends of the spectrum
I really just can't get into 74's. Yet.
Though I do love some plum.

>skirting patents

Arsenal bulgaria pays Izhmash royalties on every SLR produced for use of Izhmashes AK100 series patent, so again how is it that they aren't 100 series? Even though they are close enough that izhmash demands royalties for using the AK100 patent?

The list of sizes has a typo- 1/2-28 (it says 1/2-20 on the drop down menu erroneously) assuming that you need 1/2-28

$21
>>
>>32090158

SGL is nothing but a arsenal converted saiga, calling a hacked up saiga sporter conversion a ak100 is a stretch, I didn't know Izhmash used commercial saiga receivers for their Ak100 guns.
>>
>>32090201
Yup, I just spotted that, thanks anon. I'll be ordering this and a new jam nut soon. My gunsmith friend threaded it to 1/2-28 and I was kinda bummed because I wanted an authentic 84s flash hider, but I'm glad to find that I can still retain that look.

Are there any AKs for sale that are made in the Arsenal style that aren't Arsenals because Arsenals are getting hard to come by
>>
>>32089505
Okay. I'm not a metallurgist but I was given to understand that 58-60 RC was not excessive hardness for most types of steel--cutlery steel, for knives, is typically hardened to the mid-high 50s, and 60-62 is for files, high speed cutting tools, etc.

What is the proper hardness for an AK extractor? I know there must be a spec, somewhere, but it's probably written in Russian. Does anyone know?

Anyone have any suggestions for polymer handguard for a Vepr? Only ones I know of are the fake SVD ones from black horse arsenal and the MOE adapted ones from Canis. the AK market is pretty much garbage right now. the best starter AK is a WASR, they're going for around 700 now. it's chambered in 7.62x39 which is usually recommended for a first AK. Or if you have ~1300 to spend get an Arsenal SLR 107. you can't go wrong with either of those two. and make sure to check if there is any cant. that can ruin your day

You need to chill out and till next summer or so to buy an AKM. Now that King Nigger won't be in office anymore the gun market will FINALLY be able to stabilize. Unless you're a Californian, which is experiencing their armageddon panic since pretty much all guns are banned starting in January. AKs in particular are due for a price correction. The key is to buy when they overcorrect and before they rebound again.

No, they're not reinforced by CNC Warrior. They're standard Bulgy commercial polymer mags, with steel reinforcements from the factory. I believe they're from the same company that makes those ugly 40-rounders with the rounds molded into the side.

I've seen some people say that the feed lips are still cracking, like one would expect from unreinforced mags, but I'm not sure how exactly.

If you want to buy a few, I don't think you're taking a huge risk, since they're a whopping $10. But they're certainly not tried-and-true like reinforced bakes are.

I have a couple of the $12 ones (with reinforced feed lips) to test how long they'll last. it's not too bad actually, if you have the tools already

you need a 20 ton press, and a drill press is highly recommended

just do your research and take it very, very slow so you don't fuck up when building

I'm at the stage where I've done my headspacing and populated the barrel, I have a really nice tight fit on the gas tube. Now I have to remove the barrel from the front trunnion and rivet it into the receiver.

I bought some specialized tools for a few hundred dollarydoos from AK-builder, but my parts cost something like this:
>Bulgarian AK-74 parts kit: $350
>Nodak Spud AK-74 receiver: $90
>Black Nitride AK-74 barrel: $110
>Rivet set: $10
>Side rail (optional): $30

So you're looking at ~$590 for the complete rifle, not including tools, shipping, and FFL transfer fees for the receiver. Even better if you can make your own receiver, or make one from a flat

Anyone know where I can find one of these little sight tools? I can't find it anywhere.

I got an Izhmash Kobra RDS a while back and it didn't come with it. I can adjust the sight fine without it but I'd like to have one to make it easier.

I got it for free so I can't complain about it not coming with the tool to begin with.

I might have to just make one myself.

In Ocala right? I don't really know anything about Chinese AKs but $1500 seems like a decent deal looking at some of the prices on gunbroker. That being said, those folding stocks look fantastic.

Thanks.

And yeah, seems like I'll have to make my own. Maybe I'll draw out a pattern and post it here when I do. I'm sure there are untold thousands of anons without tools for their Kobras.

So USPS didn't even care to see the FFL file. I mean why even have an FFL at this point other than providing insulation to myself from liability. The more I get into guns the more gun laws are just a mirage.
>>
>>32097427
Well USPS fucked up because I'm pretty sure only FFL holders are allowed to send guns through USPS. Making sure you send it to a valid FFL is your own responsibility. You could mail a gun to a private address all the way across the country and most likely nothing would come of it. But if that gun got used in a crime, you would be the dead end on the serial number search.

The top row are all true blacks, the first six in the middle are Izhmash plums and the last four in the middle are (10)s, and the ones on the bottom are Bulgarian sanitized Russian plums. I don't really care about having a huge variety of all kinds of different mags, I've just been really into picking up more current issue true blacks. I've got another 6 of them coming in from Russia next month.

Tulas are usually worth more than Izzys, so if that's shipped that's not terrible. You can get them for less if you keep your eyes open, but if it was an impulse buy I wouldn't lose any sleep over paying an extra dollar or two.
>>
>>32100091

>>
>>32100267
damn mane didn't figure that out....
was just wondering if one would be better shiiiit
>>
>>32100238
Tula uses a star stamp, Izhmash has an arrow in a triangle. The reason Tulas are considered more valuable is because Tula was always a smaller operation than Izhmash, so they produced fewer weapons and magazines than Izhmash, with the notable exception of the AKS-74U, which Tula produced almost exclusively.

Really, the only reason the Tulas are considered more valuable than the Izzys is because they're slightly less common. Functionally, they're going to be identical.

Well the AMD (Bottom) is a Hungarian AK made for Paratroopers hence the D. The vertical foreground was to aid in stabilization and to keep hands off the sheet metal handguard since after a few mags it heats up quick. They are a very 'poorfag'ish rifle since the kits and built AK's aren't very expensive compared to other options. Also notable for using wood grips. Which are awesome btw. Has a fairly nice aftermarket but due to their cheap price they get bubba's a bit. They use a non standard rear trunnion hence the folding wire. His actually has regular plastic grips and a cheek rise so you can rest your cheek on it. They also take drums/20rds better than 30 Rds but in my experience 30 Rd bakes go in with minimal problems.

Just bought an imported kit and everything is clean except for the muzzle brake and gas block. What is this strange green rust, what is the damage and how should I go about cleaning this?

To me it looks like something oxidized and I should just brush it, but I'm new to the world of AK.
>>
>>32100201
What about VEPRS?
>>
>>32101162
That looks like copper oxide. I'd guess from somehow having a round chambered for god knows how long for satan knows what reason. Solvent and a brass brush will probably do well. Nylon will be a bear to use, you're going to be scratching metal off of metal. The brass brush won't hurt the steel.
>>
>>32101180
Well shit, I guess that's the price to be paid for romanian surplus. I shall take care of it in a couple weeks when I start building it.
>>

Eastern Europe, you never cease to amaze me.
>>
>>32101262
And this was the muzzle/gas block. Just imagine what the depths of the barrel looked like.
>>
>>32101180
Wait, that's the gas block and brake, not the chamber. God damn, I'm retarded. Same deal, definitely LOOKS like copper oxide. Maybe it's from the jacket being sized down the bore and depositing metal? Same concept, solvent, elbow grease, brass brush.

Shit like this always happens.
If they have a good product, they'll be around long enough to get reviews.

More likely than not, they'll disappear or "restructure" and get a new name and put out junk for a few more months.
The AK market is extremely unforgiving when it comes to even a single screw up.

yeah

to clean that, I personally would try the cheap "foaming engine cleaner" they sell at Wal-Mart. fill up the bore, coat the pieces with it, let it stand somewhere, maybe in a glass jar (you don't want that stuff getting on your carpets or flooring), wait a few hours, rinse it off with plenty of boiling water. you'd be surprised what it will take off.
