I can buy a Savage bolt action rifle in a popular caliber for less than a Mosin. The Savage is more accurate, cheaper to buy, and cheaper to feed.

They're not.

Some of them are, certainly. The Mosin is a mediocre gun with some shotty examples due to lack of quality control and desperate times, but it still has it's charms. It's nigh indestructible, 54R is the finger of god, and it(was) a decent gun for the money. The ammo is still cheap for a full sized rifle cartridge. I would honestly have bought a Mauser 98 by now, but one day I decided to look at the price of ammo.

I still would like to think of it as the flagship gun of /k/. I've recently had a bit of a fire reignited for simple practical guns and iron sights. Nothing feels at home like a bolt action to me.

To the anons with M39s, how are they? I think I'm either going to get one or a 98k next. The only reason I can really consider them competitors is because of the cost of the rifle and ammo.

those look dope, I have a few pairs but none of mine are black. I very rarely wear any of mine since I've heard they fall apart easily.

M39 is the best Mosin money can buy. I own two, and they are fantastic shooters. Bolts work like butter. Also own two K98's which are god tier bolt guns. There are no downsides except the price of ammo. I would personally go with the K98 as they are getting more and more expensive. M39's will retain the same price 350-400 for a while yet.

Hey, that's the pit! I was there a couple weeks ago. I was the Asian kid with the AK, shotgun, flintlock and a few others

I'm seeing M39s go for 5-700 right now. I don't even consider classic because The remaining rifles are too shit for them to have "hand select", and I've heard of people getting heaps of shit paying the extra dosh from them.

I wish I hadn't spent all my money on a panic buy. That panic buy is what rekindled my interest in simple rifles though.
>>
>>32089763
Supposedly the DNR is building two more in the state, based on the success of the one in Lapeer.
>>
>>32089771

Actually you're right. I'm a little out of date. Here's one I found for $300. You can find the missing part online.

http://www.checkpointcharlies.com/ecommerce/finnish-m39-7.62x54r-vkt1942,-matching.html

So not to shill for classic too hard, but I bought both of my M39's hand select and they were great. I know they do have a good return policy on the rifles, so if you went standard grade and got shit you could return it.

Damn, it's going to be a little while before I have money again.
>>
>>32089867

Good luck anon, I hope you get the money for at least one of them.

When? Do we know if it's going to be more closer to the metro-detroit area or am I still going to have to drive an hour and a half to shoot at an outdoor range?

True patrician's choice is rifle m/28-30. Admitted they are harder to find in excellent shape in the States, since they were imported in late 1980's. It was the rifle design from which rifle m/39 inherited basically all its Finnish-developed improvements for Mosin-Nagant rifles.

Compared to m/39 rifle m/28-30 has:
1. More delicate rifle stock designs - 2 or 3 stock designs were used (two production versions plus late version which is bit more robust), they are notably more delicate than the stock designs used in m/39 nor to they have the "pistol grip bulge", but the rifle stock is also lighter and still has free float barrel.
2. Slightly heavier rifle barrel with tighter bore. Tighter bore means that shooting surplus ammo is not necessarily smart, but if one makes ammo for the rifle normal .30 caliber high quality bullets can be used.
3. Sights are practically identical to those used in m/39 with very small tweaks (front side windage adjustment rate slightly different, rear sights settings starting from 200 meters instead of 150 etc).
3. Trigger design is slightly different, but is good-quality two-stage as in m/39.
4. Same "jam-free" magazine design was used in both rifle models.
5. Rifle m/28-30 has its own rifle sling design, which is basically Finnish-designed improved design based to US M1907 rifle sling.

All m/28-30 were manufactured by Sako, which manufactured about 40,000 of them in 1934 - 1941. Almost whole production went to Finnish Civil Guard - national guard sort of voluntary organization which the Soviets demanded to be banned after World War 2. In 1920's and 1930's guardsmen belonging to Civil Guard had major interest in rifle marksmanship and long range rifle shooting, which shows in the rifle - it is bit more of a high-end target rifle than a true military rifle.
