The only reason why I don't want to buy a 10/22 is because I already own a regular 10/22 and I don't want to have two of almost identical rifles. I guess I could just sell it and buy a takedown.

I suppose that would depend on the type of firearm and the intended use. I love my Winchester Model 1897 and it is a 12 gauge that easily takes down for easy storage.

However, a larger shotgun may not be what you are looking for as far as being light-weight for backpacking.

If you are looking for an alternative to the 10/22 takedown in a .22LR, you may want to check out the Henry AR-7.
