Barrel life is a meme. I've shot over 38k of rounds from my old as fuck wasr that I bought 12 years ago and it still lands hits where I point it at 125 yards

From what research I did before buying my AMD, the main issue with the barrel is the hardness. Supposedly the hardness is really low for an AK barrel, but if I wasn't mislead I believe that is mostly a problem for installing the barrel. Once installed, it should be fine for most average shooters.

I think a 7.62 having more surface area helps. I think mag dumping a 7.62x39 is never going to hurt a barrel like a 224 cal. Yup I went there. .224 lol

Yeah just get a new gun. Doing it yourself requires a press and jig for the barrel housing pins. Its not that bad but then you're having to headspace. Doesn't work like an ar15 thanks to a barrel extension.
