>Marines testing M27 as replacement for M4

The only reason they """supplimented""" the M249 with the M27 was an excuse to replace the M4. Clever girls.
>>
>>32077692
I liked it best when I was in and we had m16's. Let us use those until 2050 and something is profoundly better instead of marginally.

lol no

hello clickbait
>>
>>32077692

finally dropping the POS good news.
>>
The only argument the AR kids had was "muh murrican military still uses it"

now that thats dead, they have nothing, it's one of the worst designed, and bandaged firearm in the world.
>>
>>32078701
M27 uses AR 15 BCG, trigger assembly, buffer tube.. nigger it's basically a piston AR... it's just got an H&K price stamp
>>
So, just another AR then. Gotcha.
>>
>>32077692
Of the branches, its the marines that are most likely to actually do it.

But as >>32078810 said, its just another AR essentially.
>>
>>32077692
A couple of years ago the Corps was considering a modernization program of the M16A4 to a M16A5 standard - collapsing stock, free floated lite rail, and possibly an 18" barrel not entirely unlike the C7A2.

Then they adopted the M4 and M27.

Did the Marines fuck up because I can imagine an M16A5 being so well recieved that the army upgrades old A2's and A4's to that standard
>>
>>32077692
Oh FUCK OFF with this click bait bullshit.
>>
>>32077692
There's no point in doing anything until LSAT comes out, which shouldn't be too much longer.

Seems like this shit always comes up and nothing ever changes.
>>
>>32079430
memory serves weve been "replacing" the M4/M16 for almost 15 years
>>
>>32077692
Not hating on H&K, but couldn't we have picked a domestic piston AR like LWRC?

LWRC originally submitted something for the original IAR tender, but they didn't even make top 3
MARSOC tried LWRC uppers for a period of time and didn't like them
>>
>>32079854
The MARSOC thing is some BS posted on barfcom
CIA GRS did use some LWRC M6s though

if they would be clever, they would adapt the steyr aug - the only futuristic rifle

if they have that much money to throw away, they need their budget cut.

Anonymity fosters more free speech.

>>32077692

So, any chance that removing the tariffs/bans on foreign-made rifles might drop the price on HK, FN, and Steyr imports?
>>
>>32077757
They really should have went with one of those switchable open/closed bolt rifles from the early trials. The FN HAMR or the LWRC M6 would have been much better choices for that ridiculous pricetag.
>>
>>32077692
sounds like a waste of money
>>
>>32079845
>Implying you've ever had a "job"
>>
>>32080653
I think most of the problems are on the German end with exports.
>>
>>32080694

The trials were watered down so much from the original requirements.

They dropped being able to fire from the open bolt because it would have disqualified HK.

They also dropped testing extended/drum/aftermarket magazines which bit them in the ass when the original M27s couldn't even use Pmags. Which is why the idea of banning them was floating around for awhile.

>meanwhile in Russia (60 years ago)

HEY IVAN, WE NEEDED LIGHT MASHEENGUN FOR NEXT GENERATION OF RATNIK.

I KNOW JUST HOW TO DO IT SERGEI.

TAKE AVTOMAT OF KALASHNIKOV, PUT HEAVY BARREL, USE BIG DRUM MAGAZEEN, ATTACH BIPOD. IT IS DONE.
>>
>>32079964

B1 is better in almost every way including payload
>>
Everybody knew this 2 years ago bud, right now like 20% of the infantry is m27s, so justifying the rest wont be as outrageous in the eyes of the budget people.
>>
>>32078921
I don't know why they didn't do this. I can't imagine it being more expensive than the $3000 IAR
>>
>>32080284
I did, the author is speculating.

I apologize for my ignorance, but can someone explain why the fuck they wouldnt just convert to m4 carbines?

Has the USMC bought the piston meme?
>>
>>32082210
After the first batches I would imagine A5 upgrade kits to be cheap - The corps could have an 18" barrel if it wanted, but a simple upgrade with a collapsing stock and free float lite rail - I mean the Army still has tons of A4's and A2's in service, mostly in non combat/rear line units - why not spend 200 bucks to make A4's lighter and more compact? And why not do the same for the A2's after swapping out the upper for a flat top?
>>
>>32082598
Then they’d have to switch ammo cuz the m855 doesn’t perform well in anything short of 20” in long range engagements.
>>
>>32078810

except the gas key is basically just a big piece of metal but yeah the bcg is the same
>>
>>32078810
my m16 was FN
idgaf
>>
>>32082560
>Has the USMC bought the piston meme?
Holy shit all of my lels
>>
>>32077692
We knew that back when they were first introduced. At least that was the rumor. Though it was more "we're getting rid of the M16A4 and replacing it with the IAR".

>>32080762
Usually true. The big thing is that it has to be made in the US. All US military equipment has to be made (assembly counts) here.

>>32080848
What I was told was that they specifically designed the IAR to not accept aftermarket mags because the brass didn't like Marines using aftermarket magazines.
>>
>>32080579
Because it's irrelevant, draws attention away from the actual conversation and makes you look like an attention whore,
>>
Nobody is replacing anything

Too fucking expensive
>>
>>32077757
For that price just make the LSAT LMG a standard issue rifle.
>>
Do the marines still issue 1911's?

If they're going to 416 variants I'm actually tempted to join
>>
>>32078701

You should stop talking. Your lack of experience is showing.
>>
>>32083150
No, they did to MARSOC and recon units for a while but stopped. It was the M45 CQB IIRC. Last I checked they were switching to glocks or something.

Probably the import bans but I HIGHLY doubt the tariffs. I honestly wouldn't give a fuck about the tariffs if they lifted the import bans.
