When I took hunter's safety, NC had just passed a law that made dudes who had been hunting for longer than you've been alive take the course. There were a bunch in my class, and none of them sounded like they had a broom handle shoved up their ass for having to do so.

Someone died and left me a Weatherby Mk V in 300 WBYmag, with a Leupold Vari-X III LR with illuminated Reticle. I killed a awesome 7 pointer at 400 yards with it.

Reloading for it sucks complete ass though. It seems to ONLY love $60 factory ammo. its Sub MOA when i use factory, then 2 MOA with my current load.

You can look up all the laws on that, the class is really to teach firearm safety, which I already know.

Especially since I would only hunt on private land my friend owns.

Weatherbys are notorious for that. I think it has to do with the double radius shoulder on the case that makes them picky with loads. On the plus side the Wby factory ammo is loaded by Norma and is top notch stuff.

There are no waivers as allowed by Federal law, and any state that gives waivers is in violation of that law.
