From my experience in the military, here's how it'll go:
>Need written permission from your CO
>Need a "good reason" for wanting to carry
>Need to fill out a form with perfect spelling and no other mistakes or else it will be kicked back
>If rejected, there will be a 3 year period where you can't reapply
>If not on your person it will have to be stored in the armory
>Armory is only open 09-1700

You do realize that pluging in USB storage could compromise the safety of a lot of systems.
I don't know your particular case, but just remember that StuxNet infected shitload of computers in the middle east in the hope of getting to the Iranian nuclear research center through USB. Said center was offline but indeed someone at some point compromised the security with a plug in device.
This let the virus deal a lot of physical damage to uranium enriching facility by slightly changing the centrifuge routine to fuck them up.

So maybe its irrelevant but an USB stick could do a shitload of damage if connected to the wrong system.

I do realize this; I worked in intelligence and now do computer security. We wanted to hook up a totally clean hard drive only to computers of a single secure network, with it never touching any other network. There was nothing that was going to cause a problem but the paperwork involved in it was a huge asspain to deal with and put a major crimp in our operations.
