My Dad and I go shooting up in Modoc and that place is pretty abandoned. You might check prices on a little patch of land for bugging out too. Corpus Christi checking in, I would likely head north and avoid all of the big cities(San Antonio, Ft Worth, Dallas) on my way up. No way I am staying this close to the boarder(depending on what the SHTF scenario is).

I'm in rural South Dakota (hurr durr, the whole state) and my plan is to stay exactly where I am and continue to be a bumfuck farmer with a lot of guns. Me and my neighbors and the handful of friends who also know the plan is to be bumfuck nowhere farmers.

I also live in South Dakota. I live along the Missouri River, so if I had to, I could just hunt and fish for food. South Dakota has a lot of rural patches, and not as many people as Cali. Plus, SoDak is filled with resources and survivalist opportunities. Great place to be if SHTF.

Hide and try not to die for the first week or so, then move very carefully, under cover of darkness. And maybe you can get somewhere that isn't a complete hellscape.

But if you arent out of NYC before things to pear shaped, you are probably gonna die. Hiding till the worst of the initial panic and people murdering each other over canned beans dies down is probably your best shot at surviving more than 10 days.
