Why haven't you got a 5.56 ak yet, /k/omrads?
>>
>>32072823
I thought the general rule of thumb was that 5.56 AK's were garbo?

Because I personally don't like AK pattern rifles, and the only ones I would consider buying are fucking expensive Finnish or Israeli ones.

Not garb, but it seems people are still scared of them because of early Arsenal SLR-106s having gas or ejection issues, but this isn't a thing anymore. Some people also complain about magazine cost and cross comparability with other 5.56 AKs but I don't see this as an issue and they aren't particularly expensive when purchased on forums.

In my SLR, Circle 10 waffles, Beryl and Vepr .223 mags all work and feed great. My Norinco is slightly more picky, Circle 10s must be dremeld a bit under the front lug but generally work great. Vepr .223 mags work good, and Beryl mags rock in and feed great with no issues. Chink mags are obviously going to be best for it, but lately they go for 75-100 for a 30rd mag, so not practical to stock up on.

Cost wise, no, if you're just talking about getting a semi auto in that caliber, AR is the new poorfag rifle. $500-600 will get you a reliable shooting yet incredibly boring AR that you'll inevitably waste money on accessories for rather than to just leave it alone and shoot it and git gud. But AKs are way more fun, and this is coming from someone who has 3 ARs, a scar 17 and lots of other funz. My AKs get shot the most by far.

What is SIG556?

>Standard AR mags
>5.56
>Long stroke reliability
>Not over-gassed
>Special Snowflake Euro-Gun status
>Better ergos than an AK
>>
>>32073264
Or the 556r
>>
>>32073264
I also have a sig556, and while I do love it and shoot it more than my ARs, it has some downfalls which make it kinda weak sauce. It costs more than a top of the line milled Arsenal SAM series AK, has less options for furniture, rails etc than an AK let alone an AR, is the weight of an AK, and parts are expensive and hard to come by. The only thing it has going for it is it's more fun than an AR, takes pmags and is more ergonomic than an AK, but not a replacement for a real 500 series Swiss rifle, nor a true alternative for an AK. 556r has too many reliability issues to consider.

>>32073213
Your local gun shop, KVAR (slr-106 series), gunbroker, etc. There are 5.56 caliber aks from every country and most all are just as reliable as their 7.62 or 5.45 counterparts. Also check akfiles marketplace.

>>32073214
True but you can't reload 5.45, and it's not really as available, my local Walmart never has 5.45. Still, 5.45 is also a great cartridge and they shoot very similar.

becuse 5.56 kills your body and 7.62x39 kills your soul

brass 5.56 doesn't do as well as the more heavily tapered Slav rounds. The AK was designed for steel case, so when a softer brass round with straighter walls gets stuck in a dirty chamber, the violence of the AK's extraction can tear the case in half.
Have fun removing that shit

you probably keep your rifle clean enough that it's not an issue
however, all things equal, the broken shell scenario is more likely with 5.56 than slav calibers

First off, the 5.56 caliber projectile is not the best attribute of the AR-15. The rifle was originally designed to shoot the .308 caliber bullet but the military made them scale the rifle down. An AR-15 and an AR-10 are completely different animals much like a 7.62 caliber ak is compared to a 5.45 ak. Aside from a weight advantage which the AR-15 has over the AK, and the slightly better ergos, all of your bullshit amounts to "stop liking what I don't like:the post". You act as if you can't put rails and all sorts of bullshit on an AK nowadays the same way you do an AR. And most of the shit sold today for ARs is useless garbage anyway and doesn't do anything to improve the rifle except to look like a tactical Mall ninja abortion and add weight unnecessarily.

>>32073758
Wut? I've shot thousands of rounds of brass and that's happened fucking never once.

You are the one who shitposting faggot. Most of the AR/AK debates end in a comparison of the 5.56 cartridge to the 7.62 cartridge, and it usually ends in AR fanboys proclaiming the wider variety of options in purchasing or reloading .223/5.56 and stupidly argue it's what makes the AR the best choice. All of the sudden an AK in this caliber is still inferior? I'm willing to bet you haven't shot one, in fact, you may even be a nogunz cuckboy and have nothing at all. You are a shitty troll and your bait isn't even bait, it's like literal shit dragged into the threads that normal anons have to step around and avoid.

Jesus you are dense. I don't care what your dad told you, tripfag, the AR is gay, has killed thousands of Americans and is nothing more than a modern day toy and babby's first semi auto for normies. It is better today than it was 50 years ago, but please explain why if the AR is superior that the AK and it's variants are the most prolific across the world in all calibers? Is your grandpappy butthurt Quang Nguyen shot his leg off in 'Nam when his piece of shit armalite broke down for the 10th time that day?

As this >>32074205 anon said, but also consider Zastava M90 comes with an adapter from the factory to use AR mags, which is a plus if you already have an AR. Arsenals are always great quality, but stay away from the short barrel versions of the 106 as they had issues.

Norincos are also badass in 5.56 but people avoid them because they had mags with a built-in feed ramp on the follower and mags are expensive. But you can put a small scalloped shape feed ramp on the breach yourself with a dremel and then use $30 Polish Beryl mags which are reliable and light and will feed the rifle without issue. Keep this in mind, you may be able to score a Norinco for cheap like I did because people are afraid of them because of Chinese mag cost and they don't know better.

It's very ak like in weight and recoil impulse, and the bolt looks like an ak bolt. It's pretty easy to take down and clean like an AK. They are a lot of fun and pretty accurate too in my experience. And unlike the expensive piston conversions on ARs, you're getting a rifle that was designed to be a gas piston rifle from the outset. Stay away from the 556R though. And buy one used, not new, they are worth 1000-1200 imo, not 1700+ new.
