Who here has a Ka-Bar? Thinking about getting a 7 Inch blade. Waiting on a price drop on Amazon.

What are your thoughts about Ka-Bar? Are they just a meme?
>>
>>32068173
Meme, it's a hunk of steel with an inflated price due to memarines. Just buy a regular sheath knife and save $50 for more gear.
>>
>>32068173

There is little reason besides self defense to get a knife above 4" as any outdoor tasks you need to be done can be done with a hatchet and fine tasks with the knife. If you live in tropical climates get a machete.

That being said, ka-bars look sexy as fuck, I wish there were non-coated versions.
>>
>>32068173
I was thinking about doing the same. Leather or Kydex sheath? I'm thinking kydex since it's more practical.
>>
>>32068173

OP, get the Ontario 498 Marine Combat Knife on Amazon instead. Cheaper, same design, and actually more "accurate" to the original USMC mil issued design.
>>
>>32068184
it's only $68
>>32068194
Only want it cause it's sexy.
>>32068199
leather because sexy
>>32068207
I like it. Will now consider that. Depends on how much of a price drop each have this season.
>>
>>32068173
Honestly? They're too big and chunky to do anything you;d use a knife for. Can't skin game, can't remove splinters, can't clean fish, doesn't whittle really well, etc. They're not KNIVES. They're field tools. For Marines. Who abuse the shit out of everything. If you want one get it and glory in it and more power to you. I dunno what you;ll ever actually use it for, though.
>>
>>32068253
What about one for self defense? I go to school near the ghetto and would like to keep one under my car seat along with with my pocket knife.
>>
>>32068239
>quality fixed blade knife
>$70
Sure, if you're going to hang it on your wall get it.
>>
>>32068184
What the fuck is a sheath knife?
>>
>>32068301
A fixed blade knife that goes in a sheath, opposed to a folding knife that goes in a pocket?
>>
>>32068281
That works.

But if you want a purpose-made stabby thing, there's always the Sykes-Fairbairn.
>>
>>32068281
Why not a gun?
>>
>>32068302
Who the fuck says sheath knife though?
>>
Lets see here

>wants for aesthetics
k31 bayonet

>wants for fucking around
$10 china steel piece of shit

>wants for outdoors
$10 china steel piece of shit and a $60 hatchet+sheath

kbar is a meme
>>
>>32068321
People talking about fixed blades? It's used interchangeably in all my comings and goings in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas.
>>
Have had one for awhile. It's come in useful on camping trips where you are near your car, though it is definitely too heavy for backpacking, so I don't use it for that.

Other than that I just leave it in my center console. Figure if I'm ever in a situation where I need to cut my belt off/smash out a window then it's perfect for that. Or a crash in winter weather or something. It really is more of a tool than a knife, as one poster has already said.
>>
>>32068317
I applied for a foid card, but want something for self defense right now. I also work around that neighborhood and we got robbed last night. Dude bumped into me, dropped the shit and made a run for it. Three days ago went to a sandwich shop for dinner and ended up having a homeless crackhead shove his hand down my window begging for change. Would've been nice if I had a big knife like a ka-bar to shake him off.
>>
>>32068362
Pepper fogger and a Mag Lite.
>>
>>32068173
Yes.
>Full price for a Rat-tail tang knife
Better knives can be had for the price, hell you can probably score two quality full tang knives.
>>
>>32068484

>rat tang
>confusing it with hidden tang

Completely different things.
>>
I got one simply because I am a Marine and they look cool. That being said, the most use it gets in the field nowadays is opening MREs. Its a great fighting knife but I have other knives that are better in a general-purpose sense.
>>
>>32068741
Like?
>>
>>32068341
No they dont, nobody probably said anything when you were there but you still sounded wierd.
>>
>>32068907
An EOD multitool for work and a basic flip up sog I keep handy on my flak. For hunting at home I have hunting knives, one with a gut hook, etc.

>>32068207
This or the sp1

The kabar is pretty good but its an around fighting utility knife, if you are looking to a knife for a specific job like whittlingor skinning there are knives that would be more efficient at it but if you just want a general use knife then mkii will do the job

Get an Ontario 498

Virtually the same knife but cheaper and with a sharpened swedge

Pic related
>>
>>32068253
False. Just gutted, skinned, and butchered a deer with one inna woods last week. Might not be the best, but it was damned well versitile and able to do all of those things.
>>
Those are not the genuine article anymore, they are cheap half-tang fixed knives worth about $25. Just find a good knife.
>>
>>32069474
Sure, other people in different parts of the country don't have different ways of saying things, you want some coke or do you call it soda? Or are you a pop faggot?
>>
>>32068741
Why'd you buy one? They don't issue them anymore?

>>32071983
That's why you don't buy cheap knives. The only way that could have happened is either an improper heat treatment or there was a preexisting crack. The chinese aren't great about quality control.
>>
>>32068173

Makes a good dildo.
>>
>>32068173
just buy a pilot survival knife.
>>
>>32072020
Or used to pry something open. I've snapped plenty of cheap blades doing that.
>>
>>32068173
They're really cool. I have one and it works great for random bullshit. Cool look and holds and edge alright. The sheaths they come with are handy.

People on /k/ hate the shit out of them. They think they're supposed to be some survival knife. They're not. They're a combat/utility knife. Don't push it too hard and keep in mind it does have a rat tail tang, which is kinda balls.
>>
does anyone on /k/ have experience with this knife?

i circumcised myself with one, it was okay
