Is electronic hear protection viable for combat?

If civilians are willing to be taxed for it.
I had a pair of these, fell apart after 6 months. Regular earplugs don't fall apart. I doubt cheap manufacture hearing protection is going to save your ass in muh fantasy combat.

Considering that's what they use, yes.

Which military uses those?

Not Howard Leights but a lot of countries issue Sordin or Peltor variants.
The electronic ones I've put on including expensive peltors and cheaper Howard leights and tBh I can't get good directional awareness from it. I'd Probably end up ripping them off

Cheap people who buy their own shit wear Howard leights

I don't like them because they don't protect my hearing well enough.
If the NRR is below 30, I don't wear it.
I have some Russian surplus ones, they kind of work, but the amplification is all wonky. They're tuned to whatever exact frequency car keys make when they jingle, you can hear that shit like twice as loud as anything else.
