Would you rather live without dogs or without guns?
No dogs option: All dogs evade you. If you try to adopt a dog, the clerk won't let you have it, or the dog will just run away the next day. You cannot pet other people's dog. Strangers will never let you go near their dogs in the park, or you just won't happen to run into any dogs.
No guns option: You can never own or fire a firearm again. All your current firearms are mysteriously sold in the night for reasonable prices. If you go to buy a firearm you will fail the background check, and no private salesman will want to do business with you. Nobody will let you get anywhere near their guns and you will always fail at any attempts to steal a gun from someone else.

For me, I'd just have to forego dogs. I love my pupper, and I can't imagine not having a dog with me, but I also wouldn't want to risk my family's security and live without firearms.
My life would be considerably less enjoyable without my doggo, but maybe I could get a potbelly pig or a goat, and just pretend it's my dog.

No dogs sounds like paradise. Never got off on the whole illusion of love and loyalty from something bred to appear loving and loyal.
I've been feeding crows enriched cornbread for about a year now and they've proven themselves more useful at dog things like alerting me to strange people and pecking the eyes out the neighbor kids.
