Seriously wheelguns are cool.
>>
>>32053265
thanks for the recommendation. I've decided im going to get 2. 1 for messing around at the range, and one to carry. I'm thinking something in 22lr for the range so I'm not paying out the ass every time I got then a 357 snub or short for carry.

>>32053269
Right? I just got my permit today, pretty hyped.
>>
>>32053366
Ruger makes some very reasonably priced .38spl/.357mag five shots and .327mag six shots for concealed carry. I'm looking at a .327 SP101 for my next carry piece.

Of course I'm also looking at a Ruger Redhawk or S&W 629 to share ammo with my lever gun.
>>

That's it.
seriously, everything else is a disgrace once you handle a python.
PROTIP: put an ACOG on it so you can use it at longer ranges.

dumb question do revolvers come in 9mm that cost under $600?
>>
>>32053445
Don't use 9mm with revolvers. The cylinder gap saps a lot of energy compared to semi-autos.

The extra base pin notch locks the pin back far enough to block the hammer from falling all the way. It can be eliminated easy enough. Just buy a Colt base pin. Worked for me. The hammer is another story. When on half cock, there is a rod and spring inside the hammer that flips the little pawl under the firing pin out to block it. You have to find an Uberti hammer without it and replace it. They are getting hard to find. I ordered one for my Duke special.

Which do you like better out of these two? I've been leaning towards buying a 686 plus, but I've heard good things about the SP101 as well.
>>
>>32055125
Out of the box the Ruger will have a better trigger surprisingly but the Smith can be better with some minor work and dry fire.

I'd say the 686 is my preferred but I've owned it for way longer and Smiths are kind of my thing. The Ruger has fiber optic sights though so if you really care about sights keep that in mind.
>>
Is a single action a viable choice for defense or would it be autistic to go for that over double?
>>
>>32055436
Go for double. It's not impossible to defend yourself with a single action if you have a lot of experience with the firearm and high intensity/adrenaline situations, but that's not exactly a common trait. You won't regret getting double action.
>>
>>32055436
Double action is superior for defense. No matter how panicked you are it's hard to mess up "point the gun at the enemy and pull the trigger until they stop." Single action requires manual cocking after each shot which requires significantly more presence of mind.

Why is there a bigger market for .357 than .44? Cheaper ammo?
>>
>/k/ approved

this meme again? Get a revolver you approve of. Form a fucking opinion for yourself.
>>
>>32056067
.44 magnum is just too big and powerful for most people who aren't recoil junkies, and in most situations it's overkill if you're not using it for bear defense or hunting. Remember that pretty much every .357mag firearm is dual chambered so that .38spl works, and that's lightweight, dirt-cheap plinker ammo by comparison.
>>
>>32056084
Also, I forgot, .357mag/.38spl revolvers were standard police issue for the entire country for like 70 years, so there's a HUGE market around them. .44mag didn't even exist until the 1950s.
>>
>>32055572
The Windcators are cheap revolvers, but are very good so far as sub-$300 revolvers go. They use a good deal of cast components and trigger guard is seemingly cast separately and then attached to the frame. The barrel is steel inserted into a sleeve, something that most higher end revolvers shy away.

Mine has a cylinder gap of 0.08 to 0.09, depending on the position of the cylinder, as it isn't perfectly straight. This is not something visible to the eye.

It shoots well and the trigger is sharp and crisp in SA and is long and moderately heavy with a crisp break in DA, generally what I would consider ideal in a carry revolver.

If you plan to carry and would rather not donate a nice gun to questionable local law enforcement should you use it, I would strongly recommend it.

The Armscor M206 (and M200) are surprisingly decent as well.

If I want to get a revolver for home defense that might one day be used for concealed carry, what size barrel should I get 2" or 4"? I'm leaning towards four inch for accuracy and form factor, but I have no idea if this is bad for CC.

Except that you can still shoot 38 Special out of a 357 Mag, as well as 38+P, without sacrificing much of anything except maybe having a cylinder 1/8" longer.

As for wantonly shooting 357 Mags from a snub, it isn't actually that bad. Most factory 357 falls into the same comfort realm as 38+P, with the flash being slightly worse due to the slower burning powder that is more often used in 357 vs. 38+P.
