not a fair comparison. the AR in it's modern flat top incarnations is a rifle meant to be heavily accessorized. the AN-94 and AKs with side rails are not can't be. It's always an afterthought and mostly in the way. AK types are meant to be used with irons. the best "uprgrade for an AK would be better sights (ghost ring etc.) and better triggers.

what AKs are you talking about? changing the furniture from wood to plastic doesn't really make the gun modern in my book. The AK has not gone through a development like changing the carry handle sight to flat top rails. and when you have an optic on the saide rail, god forbid you have to cler a malf like a BCG override. you ahve to take off the optic, the the dust cover, clear the malf and then reassemble the gun.
