I live in a super cucked state that bans Aks, M1A's, FALs, ar-15's unless in HBAR configuration.
What's a better choice for home defense / recreational shooting rifle? The mini-14 with 10 Rd mags or an sks (bayonet is allowed)
>>32046156
SKS is cheaper, rounds are more powerful, and cosmoline is delicious on toast or in stews
HBAR
>>32046179
Mini 14 won't label you an autistic anti-American traitor.
>>32046179
Idk why the mini is $1000 goddamn
>>32046179
>tounds are more powerful
same ammo your retard tripnigger
>>32046216
7.62x39 is NOT the same as 5.56x45
Mini 14 is NOT the Mini 30
MINI 14 IS NOT THE MINI 30 REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>32046216
>You absolute idiot
>You're literally more retarded than a malnourished sudanese child soldier
>And even then he knows the difference between .223 and 7.62x39mm
Kill yourself, not even joking.
>>32046156
why not both?
>>32046156
I would lean towards the SKS
>can be converted to take AK mags if you're into that sort of thing
>Stripper clips are cheap as well
>lots of options for customization
>7.62x39 if that matters to you
>bolt carrier isn't wobbly (most mini-14s I've dicked around with felt looser than any AK)
>Supposedly mini-14s had accuracy issues using thin barrels, but a few people say this problem has been rectified, again not my info.
Just my 2 cents
>>32046156
Go for the mini-30. Same ammo as SKS/AK but ready-built for 30 round mags. Looks kind of fuddy but you can always by an sks later and share ammo.
>>32046156
I'd go for the Mini-14
>>32046179
SKS is barely worth the cost as a working rifle anymore.
>more powerful
If you have a child's understanding of ballistics, sure.
They about even out on the terminal side.
>>32046201
You should be able to find one for $700 or less. Avoid old 180 series ones, they're cheap for a reason, you'll want one with a serial number starting at 580 or higher.
If it's priced at $1000 it's either the specialized Target model that's .223 only (no 5.56mm), or it comes with the old discontinued GB folding stock, or someone is trying to jew you.
>>32046562
>Supposedly mini-14s had accuracy issues using thin barrels
Yeah, old civilian market rifles from before 2005 were pretty shoddy (groupings start to open up pretty far once the barrel gets a little hot, and this doesn't take all that much shooting), though if needed you can attach an AccuStrut to the barrel to make it shoot acceptable groupings.
See pic related.
If price is an issue get a SKS
If price doesn't matter get a mini 14 or 30
Or if you want an AR type platform look into an Ares SCR
>>32046156
move to a state that doesn't fucking suck ass
>>32046156
Mini 14.
>better sights
>takes AR mags
>weighs less than the SKS
>solid American rifle and not some soviet communist rifle
Pair it with some match ammunition and those sights and you'd have a fine target rifle
>>32049035

>>32046195
And who is this a problem for? Or did you just try to think of something to say that you thought would be funny?

>>32049035
Does not take ar mags unfortunately. Thanks bill juger
>>32049046
Whoops that's not correct for some reason I got mixed up with that mossman bolt action rifle that takes ar mags

Sometimes it's not easy to uproot everything and just move to a state with rights but if you're single or having a wife willing to go along with a plan like this I highly suggest it OP.
Never settle. You can have good living and muh rites at the same time.

Yeah, how dare he not look into the future and design his rifle to use his competitor's magazines, despite requiring a change in his design.

Mini-14.
I love it when a plan comes together!
>>32049055
Cucked AR, funnily enough next to a symbol of freedom
>>32049095

Unfortunately the retard concentration that's left over is just reinforced by a lack of debate. Vote with your votes, leaving is valid however you're not really voting with your dollars if some fresh out of college liberal moves into your old apartment
>>32048058
Your a fucking idiot the sks doesn't fire the same rounds as a mini 30
>>32049345
It's a pretty good rifle though, what with it being an AR and all.
A truly cucked AR would be something with those Kydex grips

>barely worth $400 for a reliable semi auto 7.62x39 rifle that will feed any ammo you give it
Its by far still the best value for the money. If youve got $700+ for a mini, it would still be better spent on an AR
>>32048072
>.223 only (no 5.56mm)
How does that work?
>>32049055
>>32049345
It's an ARES SCR.
>>32049055
>>32050447
Basically it's the only non-pistolgrip option for an AR that doesn't look like the skidmarks in Satan's underwear. The lower is integrated into the stock and the BCG and buffer tube angle down into the grip. Some people have replaced the stocks with Remington 1100 stocks after a bit of woodworking.
>>32049009
>>32049118
You can buy non-cucked AR-15s in MD. The only requirement is that the rifle must be advertised as an HBAR.
>>32050831
An HBAR shooting semi auto is pointless
>>32046156
Use the money you have saved for the rifle to move to a free state.
>>32046156
Op, just get an sks. The only thing a mini14 will do better at is be super lightweight. Now it depends here cause a mini14 is a great option for a camping gun. Even in a cuck state, all you're going to have is black bears and under 100 yards the mini will get the job done.
The sks if you don't mind slugging around a heavier rifle is my favorite choice for camping and survival. I just trust an sks to go bang and cycle more than I do a mini. I haven't used a new production mini but the older ones are...ugh. extractor issues galore. As long as you keep the box mag on your SKS its not gonna fuck up. I have had a lot of sks's and generally they run like a raped ape.
Both will give you similar accuracy. Nothing amazing. The 7.62x39 however is just the way to go for an intermediate cartridge.
>>32050422
>Its by far still the best value for the money.
>If youve got $700+ for a mini, it would still be better spent on an AR
If you can buy an AR, you're probably not in a ban state, and in that case you could easily buy an AK (that does everything the SKS does), for just $600
>>32050437
5.56 is slightly different, pressure, bullet, neck/shoulder of the cartridge.
You can shoot .223 in a 5.56 rifle, but you probably shouldn't shoot 5.56 in a .223 barreled rifle. Not much anyway.
Thankfully, very few .223 rifles actually have .223 only chambers these days (either featuring a 5.56 chamber or a .223 Wylde chamber), so it's not like it's a big risk.
The Mini-14 Target could probably handle 5.56, but it's a purpose made target rifle that's meant to shoot super tiny groups, preferably with match .223 ammo, 5.56 will void your warranty.
>>32050953
>I haven't used a new production mini but the older ones are...ugh. extractor issues galore
Even the old Minis weren't infamous for extraction, they typically ate whatever you gave them (within reason), and the new ones do too.
>>32050124
Mini 30 and Mini 14 are different rifles you dummy
>>32046156
What state has banned the M1A. I live in California and I know for a fact that the M1A is not affected by the new law
I own a Mini-30 and its my favorite rifle
Some of them have reported problems with surplus ammo
Never had an issue with mine in ~2000 rounds. Goes bang every time.
Mine is new production only a year or two old though
Get the Mini-30 and make sure its a recent model
>>32049373
If somebody decides to opt for extreme tax rates, high crime, elitist politicians and stagnant job market along with fierce competition in order to have a chance at such low job openings I'm all for it.
I made my choice. My vote mattered to the only person that matters in this scenario. Myself.
P.S.
The state I chose? Tons of Cali transplants and east coast transplants (Namely NY and MD) have come here for work because there isn't shit out there in their turf. More power to them.
>>32050850
The law is weird in that it must be advertised as an HBAR, but the actual barrel diameter doesn't matter.
Go hipster and get a Rasheed carbine.
>>32046156
Neither
A heavy long ass wood rifle makes No sense for an intermediate cartridge. Get an AR and wasr and go home.
I have an SKS from early chicom gunshow days. Not a big fan
>>32046156
I had an old ass mini 14, that I traded for an SKS after getting the chance to shoot one at a rage. I liked the Mini 14 a lot, but I just didn't shoot it enough to justify it's space in my locker.
To be honest, as much as I do love the SKS now, I really regret giving up my Mini. I wish I had just saved up and bought both, but I was broke right before the election and I figured it'd be now, or never.
Go with your heart, OP.
However, the 7.62 is a bit over powered for home defense in my opinion. However, the 7.62 round is much cheaper than 223 or 5.56.
I'd say, as an owner of both, get a mini if you can afford it and the ammo, but an SKS would be great for cheap, fun, 10 round action.
>>32052768
Did you literally not read the first sentence?
>>32046194
2nd this because I am betting OP is in Maryland
Just build an HBAR AR-15 or if you aren't a poorfag you could always get an AR-10 for 308 goodness (AR-10 not banned in MD)
>>32046156
well first of all what kind of home are you defending? a pistol is enough unless you're not 21 then i would recommend an ar-15, even in hbar. the only difference between hbar and mil-spec taper is a couple ounces at best, negligible. what state do you live in?
if op lives in a castle or is defending open plains then get a mini-14 but get one of the newer ones the old ones suck
>>32049118
uhh you could still get a vz58 and i am pretty sure zastava pap m90np is not banned according to MSP site at http://mdsp.maryland.gov/Organization/Pages/CriminalInvestigationBureau/LicensingDivision/Firearms/FirearmSearch.aspx
those are basically looks like AK47 but is not same operating mechanism or MSP is dumb enough to not get it so they aren't banned
>>32051866
iirc it either has to be advertised as hbar and or have hbar stamped on it
>>32052830
except you can get guns that look like AKs in MD and you can get AR (HBAR) in MD soooooo even though the WASR is technically banned you can get a VZ58 or Zastava PAP M90NP
>>32050422
>AR
If I could buy an AR I wouldn't be buying a Mini14.
if your in/around buffalo ny ill sell mine.
I would rather buy an sks

you can buy an ar
go to any fucking gunstore in md and say i want to buy an ar-15
you pay the man money and take the rifle home

That rifle gets all my want if Trump repeals the Hughes Amendment.
I personally prefer the SKS. It's way more fun than it's price tag suggests.
If I wanted a little mini garand i'll shoot my M1 Carbine. That action is even more obsolete than the tilt bolt SKS
>>32053884
.223 is so cheap to shoot though

> Mini-14 or Sks?
Years back, I bought a Mini-14 Ranch Rifle (as ARs were then were too expensive) and while it was well made and reliable and all, the accuracy was for shit; couldn’t put 10rds in a paper plate at 100 yards, so I sold it. But a buddy still has his Mini-30 in 7.62x39 and its well made, reliable AND reasonably accurate.

>>32053804
>>32046156
How does your state ban M1As but not Mini14s? What if you had an M1A with no bayonet lug? Like the scout or socom version.
>>32054128
In retrospect it's kind of inferior as a military rifle action, but as a civilian rifle that has to take a fraction of the abuse, it's perfectly fine.
The action is pretty open, which is bad because of dirt, and overall the M1 and M14 were pretty heavy. The M1 had the edge of being the one successfully fielded and standard issue battle rifle during WW2, and while the M14 provided some improvements to the design, they ultimately were too little, too late (the M14 is basically useless in full-auto to the average grunt), as by the time the M14 came around it was obsolete and a much better rifle could be made (the AR10 and AR15)
