Hey /k/ my grandpa passed away and while moving stuff around in the attic i came across this old jennings j-22. I was wondering if the gun can still work? Its missing a magazine but my real concern is if i need anything else besides that and a recoil spring ? Also near the rear of the barrel its broken. Sorry for the shitty pics btw

its a jennings it never worked
turn it in at the next buyback for a $50-200 giftcard
then buy a real gun with that money

Jennings are 50/50 when all the parts are there. Take it to a smith and have them fix it if you're wanting to shoot it
>>
>>32044627
I learned the basics of semi autos with that exact pistol. Got it when I was around 11 as a gift from my dad. Cool shit.

I just want my first 22 handgun ..sorry

Sorry for your loss, anon.

The thing looks busted, and I don't think it would be worth much even if it was in good shape. Honestly, if you don't care too much about the gun, I'd just turn it in to one of those police turn-in programs. I think they give out $100 gift certificates, and it's "no questions asked."

I understand the sentiment, but when you have one of the shittiest, least reliable guns of all time *when it's new and all the parts are there* and then break it, you're pretty fucked.

Also, those guns were like $60 new and are still only worth around a hundred bux now in flawless condition, I'm gonna second >>32044672
and sell the thing at a buyback, then use that money towards an actual pistol.
>>
mine friend has one, most unsafe gun i ever shot.
>>
>>32044686
You can get a new one from your LGS for less than it'd cost to fix that one. Only difference is they're called JA-22s now.
>>
I have one I got from an old truck I bought. Mine jams like nobodies business but if it's hot a good spring and was taken better care of it might shoot well if you ever rebuild it. I don't recommend doing that.

Jennings is one of the "ring of fire" companies, aka the original "saturday night special". They were cheap and easy to find, and used cheap and easy to find ammo. Thus they got used in a lot of crimes. The way they made them so cheaply was to use the worst material possible. If you make it past 100 rounds in any of those guns you've performed a miracle. if you make it past 125 rounds with all of your fingers intact you're eligible for sainthood.

These guns are still in production. They run about $100-150 new with some extra goodies thrown into the box. Even then its a waste of money so dont bother.

>>32044711
is a legitimate suggestion and I highly suggest you do it. You will seriously make more money doing this than if you sell the gun. And the cost to repair it will be more than the cost of a new one.
The only other use for it is maybe as a movie prop, or as parts to build your own backyard handgun. The barrel being the important bit of it since its already rifled and thats the #1 hurdle when making your own pistol.

it a shame, since I think those Jennings are actually pretty cool looking. oh well.
>>
Op here. I guess I'm going to end up turning it at the next buyback near me (riversidefag here). This really sucks because ot seems like a neat little gun but oh well I'm going to use that money towards an ar build. Thanks everybody!

>>32044802
I don't think they'll give you cash. It's a gift card for groceries I believe. My girlfriend's mom's friend turned in an old beat up 22lr rifle and I think she got a $100 gift card for Ralph's or something. This was in San Diego, btw. I don't know if any departments give back cash.
>>
>>32044827
Huh.

The only gun buyback I went to was in Chicago, but they were literally giving out prepaid Visa cards.
>>
>>32044627
>i came across this old jennings j-22. I was wondering if the gun can still work?

The good news is that it probably never did in the first place.
