How does 54R compare to .308 Winchester?
>>32041425
About the same, though the x54 has slightly greater case capacity so, in theory, you can make some hotter loads for it. But why you'd want to is beyond me.
>>32041425
You're not going to notice much of a difference unless you're firing at distances where you'd need a scope. Either one is fine for everyday rifle shenanigans.
>>32041425
It has a rim while 7.62RFN does not.
>>32041425
>>32041453
Oh, I forgot to mention; if you use bullets heavier than 180gr the x54r has a noticeable advantage.
x54r can push a heavier bullet but is otherwise pretty comparable.
Rim stronk
I've always heard that the 7.62x54R is pretty close in performance as a 30-30 Win. It's not a very hot round, but it sure packs a punch anyway.
>>32042122
You heard wrong. The 7.62x39 does compare to the 30-30, but is still superior in a number of ways, and more efficient.

Except the .303 bullets don't get the latest and greatest engineering poured into them. You get what you get.
.308 is going to have a better component selection, and those components are generally going to be as good or better than anything x54r can muster
>>32042192
You can use .308 bullets. Not everything that shoots 54r is a Mosin from WW2. And even some of those like 308 bullets.

>this guy has never had his asshole licked

Per the lumped capacitance method, pic related, for the same surface area and temperature difference, as volume (V) increases, time also increases (t).

>>32042192
Russians have buffed 54R with variants like 7N13
>>32041425
I would tend to agree with >>32043714
Basically identical in a military context. Competition favors the .308
>>32041425
>rimmed for your pleasure
superior in every way
there is no reason tobuy something in.308 when x54r exists is more reliable is better loaded and cheaper
>>32041529
Is it just me, or do the 185gr brown bear rounds kick a shit ton more than the 147gr?
>>32046387
More gr = more kick senpai
>>32046408
1000gr bullet with .0001g of powder behind it.
F=MA not F=M
>>32046387
There is a shitload of difference between 165 grain and 180 train in the 30-06. I wouldn't assume the Russian cartridge is any different. Laws of physic and all that.
54r has worse accuracy. Especially if it's a regular and not sniper version of 54r
