Let's say you go hiking and notice a hungry bear approaching you, (you retreat but the fucker is stalking you) and you don't want to end up like the cuck in the pic related, would 9mm, 135 or 147grain be enough to stop it? (all i got is sigp226). (hydra shok or hst). Any tips as to where to aim? I am not going to curl into a fucking ball or use any gay bells, def. not gonna let it come within the reach of even gayer bear pepper spray which i wouldnt use either.

Yes, to the brain it will. Unfortunately, there's a skull in the way.

But in all seriousness if you are using fmjs you have a fighting chance. You just need to pierce the heart lungs and hope it bleeds out enough to not maul you or penetrate the skull. I've heard of rounds bouncing off grizzlies' skulls. Not sure if fuddlore or not.

Bottom line is that I wouldn't want to find out.

I remember asking my Vietnam vet uncle if he ever got scared. He said sure, but the scariest thing that ever happened to him didn't happen in Vietnam. It happened in Alaska.
He was bear hunting with a war buddy of his who had property in Alaska, they were specifically looking for big grizzly bears to have stuffed and mounted or get a skin. They went out and searched for a whole week, and nothing but smaller bears. They were tempted to remov bear but they wanted a really big one so they killed a deer and went on thier way after prepping it
My uncle had a 30-30 and his friend hunted with a 44mag lever action. As they took the deer meat back to his cabin, they noticed they were being stalked by a very large grizzly, and it didn't charge till my uncle's friend shot at it.
44mag hit it in the shoulder flank as it barred towards them, and my uncle fired three shots of 30-30 into ITS FUCKING FACE and saw the bullets tear flesh and ricochet off its sloped skull.
Eventually 44 mag and 30-30 dropped it but only ten feet away from the two of them who had been steadily moving backwards and firing into the bear.
Don't fuck with bears.

Most definitely is not Siberian bear armor. That's an art display in Houston, TX that satirizes a Germanic "Wildman" tradition from the 15-19th century of celebrating springs coming. Men would dress up in silly outfits and prance about like animals.
>>
>>32040513
Deer are basically goats if you squint, and elk are basically deer but bigger.

Giraffes? Tall deer. Use a stepladder.

The second time the bear attacked him the gun was teared from the backpack and ended up a couple of feet away from him.
>>
>>32040526
An AK will fuck up a bear pretty good. A guy recently killed a bear with one (the guy had the AK, not the bear). I'd still probably use bear spray if I didn't have a .45-70.

A bear is anything from a harmless 1 lb newborn, to a 1,500+ lb hungry killing machine that is starving for food and doesn't care what it has to do to fill its stomach.

To answer your question: don't bother if it's over 400 lbs
Especially if you've got hollow points.

If it's brown, climb a tree and call for help. If it's black, make noise and make yourself look big, if it charges, put as many shots as fast as you can into center mass.

DON'T shoot for the head with a 9mm, bear skulls are thick and steeply sloped and that will likely cause your shots to skip off without causing terminal damage if you manage to hit the smaller and quickly moving target in the first place.

A 500 magnum or .44 magnum +P would be what most consider adequate rounds for brown bear protection.

>Bear spray is statistically the most effective and safest way to stop a bear attack.

Only if you're already being attacked by it and are inches away from its face. However, if the goal is to prevent the attack, then the best course of action is to kill it.

I read a story some time ago in a gun mag about a hunter and guide in Alaska who were headed back to their cabin. A short distance away, the notice a grizzly taking an interest in them. Depite both carrying big game rifles (.375s, I think) and large caliber revolvers, they opted to make a run for the cabin. They won the footrace, but the bear decided to come in anyway. Took all of the rounds they had in the rifles and most of what they had in the handguns to put him down, and it was still alive when the guide shot it in the back of the head with a .44 to put an end to it. So eight or ten rounds of .375 H&H, plus a decent handful of large Magnums on top of it. bears are tough fuckers.
Also, the have dangerous frinds. Pic related.

>>32039893

This is probably the worst thing you could use. When hollow points expand they rapidly slow down and stop (preventing over penetration on things like people). On a huge chunks of thick skin and muscle (like a brown bear), you will never penetrate past it to reach vital organs (heart and/or lungs).

>tl;dr six rounds of .357mag hollowpoints out of a revolver will just make flesh wounds in a big bear and result in you being eaten.

10mm isn't really a bear cartridge /k/omandos... But if a 9mm is all you got you will want to use 147 or 158gr FMJ rounds as UNDER penetration is much more likely going to be your problem with a bear. As they say "If you know you are going to need a gun, bring a soulder weapon."

The bear is very unlikely to stalk you. They are not hyper predators or something like that. When a bear postures itself to fight most of the time it actually doesn't and just wants to scare you off, and even when they charge it's just a scare tactic.

Even when they are with their cubs they will want to scare you off before fighting. Bears are not stupid and understand risk. They are curious as hell too.

1953, Slave Lake, AB.

Bella Twin and her friend were out grouse hunting when they noticed they were being stalked by a very large Grizzly. Knowing they couldn't outrun the bear, they sat down quietly at the edge of a cut line and waited for it to get closer. Armed with a Stevens single shot and .22 Long ammo, Bella either shot the bear in the eye or made it stand up and then put one through the roof of its mouth. When the bear dropped, she put 7-8 more rounds into its skull at point blank range just to be sure.

The bear ended up being a world record at the time.

Outside of hitting a very determined human in their central nervous center such as the brain and spine, you start to realize they can still function for a bit.

Now give that person a few hundred pounds of thicker fur/skin and dense muscle and fat with thicker bones. Also make their skulls more thick and sloped. Now throw them into an environment where they have be more aggressive with their will to survive. Lastly, take out the equation that they know what a gun or being shot is and all the learned implications that comes with that.

Have fun.

Don't use hollow points. Best 9mm you can use short of +p+ hardcast. Is 147gr fmj flatnose, most stuff you find is rated to 1000fps. If you can find better than that, use it.

You want penetration. If your not pushing magnum level energy you don't want expansion.

9mm +p, +p+, major.

I carry Corbon right now, might start loading more major. Was using hs6 with 124g xtps
>>
>>32047965
>+p+ hardcast
as if that is somehow harder than FMJ military ball ammo

>flatnose

BUAUAUABAAAA. Muh sides. enjoy being bearshit soon.
>>
>>32043819
It happens. I've shot computers with 9mm fmj, had them catch it.

22lr can deflect off wabbits, sneks.
>>
If you want to stretch the wounding capabilties of a catridge, HEI bullets are probably the way to go.
>>
>>32048046
You poor misinformed fool. Both FMJ and hardcast will deform to a degree. The difference being hardcast won't shed it's jacket. FMJ might.

As for shape, fudd lore says flatnose is less likely to glance off. Reality is it penetrates straighter in tissue than round nose.

>>32047977
Pocket pistol 9mm bear kill. He was using 147gr hardcast flatnose +p. With the short barrel and small Magazine it's really quite impressive. I personally carry a 45/70 marlin.

>>32048083
>Both FMJ and hardcast will deform to a degree.

sure

>The difference being hardcast won't shed it's jacket. FMJ might.

FMJ means the ass end is jacketed too for me, if you have one of those burrets with lead showing on the ass then yeah, you might be right.

>As for shape, fudd lore says flatnose is less likely to glance off. Reality is it penetrates straighter in tissue than round nose.

another reality is that p226s have feeding issues with flatnose burrets, especially with those that are basically a lead cylinder.

Try not owning a shit gun. Also what you have is TMJ
>>
>>32048113
>Try not owning a shit gun.
I don't but OP has a SIG P226. would suck getting eaten because your SIG failed to feed.
>>
>>32039893
All I know is that it took about 20 rounds from a black powder musket to take down the average North American Grizzly according to lewis and Clark, so maybe you should pack a little fucking heat.
>>
>>32048130
>All I know is that it took about 20 rounds from a black powder musket

What? sauce?
>>
>>32048121
You don't own one?
Well fuck, instead of pulling bullshit out of your ass in a desperate attempt to be right. Why don't you let OP test what is objectively the best 9mm round for wildlife defense?
>>
>>32048142
Do I need to atm own every gun I dare to voice an opinion about on a chinese cartoon board? I've owned Sigs, they are only marginally better (just enough so you can tell them apart) made than CZs.
>>
>>32043491
OP here :) i like that idea very much.

from Poland bro. We don't curl into fucking balls, we charge tanks on horsebacks with swords.

i don't want to go out of my way to test anything, just be prepared if need be. My sig never failed to feed, i shot tons of ammo through it, 2k+ roundsn, steel, aluminum, tula, not one issue with it. pic related :)
thanks to all of you guys for help

Go with the heaviest hottest FMJ you have and know to be reliable. Hollow points are for humans.
>>
>>32040416

Retreating is the stupidest fucking thing you can do against a bear, I would do what I did before when I encountered a bear.

I shoot into the air and scream at it, bear booked it out of there. If it decided to charge me I would pump its chest area full of lead.

Never retreat from a bear it just shows you are prey.

He was out with a gun and bear spray looking for deer or actually hunting. He also lives in Montana which isn't a no guns kinda state.

I say we remove bearbab

I'm thinking of selling my G20 and replacing it with a USP in .45 so I can run a more common cartridge and have the option of .45 super innawoods, a double action .44 mag revolver (undecided as to which, since Ruger has dumb action work in the Redhawk, the super redhawk is ugly as fuck, and the model 29 is weaker), a Beretta 1301 that I could fill with slugs, or maybe a Tikka T3x in .300 win mag or something

>>32040587
The only load that I would even consider would be extremely heavy 180gr lead

>>32041458
Wouldn't 200gr hard cast be better than that unless you're using meme ammo like copper slugs

>>32046799
>he missed the description where it literally says police responded because it had attacked someone already

>>32046721
I've wanted an AK setup for innawoods animal defense
>>
>>32044902

likes its a shitty way for something to die but at least you aren't going to get mauled
>>
>>32049565
No bro, he said himself he had bear spray, sprayed it... and no fucks were given by the bear.

It was one of those instances where the "bear spray always works" argument got shot to shit and then pissed on. It might have annoyed the bear enough to not stay with the attack long enough to kill the guy though. who knows...
>>
>>32049565
>>In the video, Orr described spraying “the sh*t out of her with bear spray” in an attempt to prevent the attack, but the angered bear didn’t react to the spray.

>>In a post that accompanied the video, Orr said the charging bear ran through the cloud of orange mist and tackled him to the ground.

I'm not always out in bear country, but when I am, I've got bear spray AND a gun.
