what does /k/ think of the Glock 19 for concealed carry and home defense?

>please, no glocknade shitposting

>>32036356

Good choice.
>>
Certainly fits those roles.
>inb4 hurr durr 9mm

17 is mo bettah tho
>>
OP here
any tips for CCing a G19? as this will be my first CC firearm
>>
>>32036356
Literally perfect.
>big enough to be comfy, small enough to fit in your waste
>plenty of super-effective 9mm self defense rounds
>reliable as shit
>relatively cheap
>as is ammo

What more is there to say?
>>
>>32036398
not for CC
and if you really miss the extra 2 bullets you can use G17 mags

it works for both those roles. Really there isn't much of an issue with Glock. I don't own them for a few reasons.

>I think they're ugly
>I don't like the trigger
>there are guns around the same price that I think shoot better

all three of those are personal reasons. I have been to the range and finger fucked the guns I own before I bought them. I am just not especially thrilled with Glock.

That being said, plenty of LEO's, military, and civilians who love them and use them every day.
>>
>>32036420
it's a fucking Glock 19

there's a trillion holster options and it's a small fucking gun
>>

for CC the Walther PPS. I love it the child I don't have.

I am also fond of the CZ-75, but I'll get shit for that by someone before this thread is over.

Really, I think that you should buy what you are comfortable with and, most importantly, accurate with.
>>
>>32036498
so basically fingerfuck a bunch of pieces at the fun store?

probably shouldn't fire them at the store... heheheh

seriously though is there any stores that let you test fire before you buy?
>>
>>32036356
I have one. Hogue slipover grip.
It's about the best gun I've ever used for CC.
And it goes boom and ejects. every. time.
>>
I have never fired or even touched a real gun ever in my life so I don't know much about guns

But I do know that I heard that glocks blow up

so probably not a good idea lol
>>
>>32036637
you just had to post that
didn't you
>>
>>32036560
your local range.

but yes, go feel every interesting looking 9mm compact/subcompact handgun you can at your local store, maybe even some full size like a g19 or HK VP9.

Then if you can, go test fire some at a local range.
Then go back to the store and feel them a little more and then BUY FROM THEM. Don't be a fucking jew and try to save $20 by ordering online, buy from a local store and support smaller shops (read: not Cabelas)
>>
OP here
cool. I picked a winner. can't wait to finally get her. a few more paychecks and I'm golden.
thanks for your commentary guys. is there anything else I should know about the G19 though?
>>
>>32036680
OP.
my dear old dad happens to be in a hunting/shooting club with a guy who is a licensed firearm dealer. said he could get me a good price on pretty much any pistol I want. so I might go to the local store to hold different guns but I'm probably buying from my dad's buddy.

Perfect thread....

Anyone got any good recommendations for a kydex holster for the glock 19.. i currently appendix carry a glock 22 at 11 o'clock with a cheap uncle mikes holster I got when I bought the gun but I'm iffy about keeping a round in the chamber due to it just being fabric.. ideally I'd like it to be just like this as in shape and how deep it conceals but kydex instead of fabric..

>>
>>32036802
>iffy about keeping a round in the chamber due to the holster being fabric

no holster is going to stop a negligent discharge. if you're scared of the gun going off in the holster, the only option is don't keep a round in the chamber.
>>

>>
>>32036839
Yes I know but I'd prefer the holster to be made of kydex not fabric so the trigger hard part can't collapse

I've carried one daily IWB for 3 years now. I really like the Galco Triton with the soft belt loops. Been using the same Desantis cheapo $26 gun belt for 5 years too.
>>
>>32037206
>not having trigger discipline
>>
>>32036802

*disclaimer: I don't live in a place where concealed carry is permitted, but I do shoot in IDPA*

I like the holsters, mag pouches, and belts by White Hat.

Their holsters consist of a leather (cowhide or horsehide) backing (IWB or OWB) and a removable, pistol-specific kydex shell. The shell can be switched back and forth between the IWB and OWB backing, depending on how you want to carry. Mag holders of the same configuration are also available.

Personally, I have the OWB and IWB backings for both pistol and dual mags, along with kydex shells for four different pistols (some with lights) and three magazine types. I also have a belt by them that is long enough to have a pistol and two mags IWB, but with enough adjustment to wear normally.
>>
Should I sell my M&P9c for a Glock19? The cheaper magazines, more rounds per mag, and extra rail space is appealing.

How's the trigger on a Glock compared to an M&P9c with an Apex trigger?
>>
>>32036356
It's too god damn big to conceal unless you dress like you never bath.
>>
>>32037294

The m&p with apex will probably be the best feeling trigger among all striker fired pistols.

I would not switch to a glock 19 if I were you and I say that as a glock fanboy. The glock 19 is a little too big for me and so I carry a g26 while the 19 serves as home defense.

Virtually everyone on this board recommends this pistol. If you lurked for 5 minutes you would have gotten your answer because the Glock fanboys cannot shut the fuck up about the 19.

It's fine, and it'll do the job.

I personally like the G26 more, but 19s are good guns.

I did the G34/G26 combo for range & carry use.

It attracts unnecessary and often unwanted attention from everyone.

Glock 19 is pretty much the most vanilla CCW choice out there, which is why the FBI just adopted it, since they're entirely plainclothes.

Go up 2-4 sizes in your waist line(leg length can stay the same), buy a gun belt, buy a proper holster, buy a spare mag holster as well. Also buy whatever size shirt you wear now in the tall version

When I first started CCing I had to figure this out myself. The only down side is my pants are rather loose if I am not CCing.

Plus side, I can carry this if/when I feel the need. But I usually CC a 17.
>>
>>32040084
Btw, I don't CC with the extended mag in, for both my 17 and/or my 34
>>
>>32036356
p good choice but the 19 can be hard to conceal so get a nice, form-fitting holster that keeps it nice n tight
>>
>>32036356
I have one, at 6'01 200lbs I can conceal it fairly easily. Stock trigger and sights are meh but I love the reliability and ruggedness of it.
>>
>>32036356
pretty big for concealed carry unless you absolutely don't care about printing

would prefer bigger for home defense because of extra round, sight radius, larger grip
>>
>>32038590
That tool reminds me of True Detective season 1 for some reason.
>>
it's entirely adequate. It gives a lot of gun per weight, but is still more weight than most CCers prefer to carry on their waist all the time (regardless of how many claim to CC full sized 1911s)
>>
>>32036466
No.
Alien gear is absolute shit.
Their holsters are poor quality and the torque screws apply pressure onto the trigger.

Huge variety, they have molds for basically every handgun on the planet. Also the cloaktuck is pretty comfortable and well designed. And cheap, and they let you swap shells for free.

don't listen to this faggot he either doesn't have one or doesn't use it

the tension keeping the gun from falling out is too loose even when you tighten it up, and they hold sweat in and stink

also use loops that wrap around your belt and snap closed, J hooks and ulti-clips and all the other shit comes loose and rides up
>>
>>32036356

Have a G19 (Gen3, Trijicon night sights; no other mods necessary). I like it; it goes bang every time and it's comfy enough to shoot for extremely long periods. It's been one of my favorite "beater" guns for going on a decade now.

However, I don't like it as a EDC gun. I tried 9 different holsters and 4 different carry positions before giving up on it; the corners of the slide constantly dig in for some considerable discomfort. I'm not especially out of shape (5'7", 165lbs); I feel it's just the squared-off shape of the weapon. Certainly there's nothing wrong with carrying a G19 for EDC if you can do so comfortably. It just doesn't work for me.

>Hot weather carry: M&P40c in a King Tuk IWB
>Cold weather carry: H&K USP Compact .40S&W in a custom-built IWB
>What works for me may not work for you.
>>
>>32036356

Glocks are OK. If you have to have one, get one of the single-stacks. G42 or G43 are better CCW guns than a G19.
