What is a minefield?

I patrolled Sangin in 2010 five days a week. Every field was a minefield. The best you can do is try to place your foot in places that people wouldn't normally walk. Anywhere that collects water and subsequently has vegetation growing is typically a safe bet to not have any ordnance beneath it. Put yourself in the head of the mine layer and try to look for good places to place a mine. Then don't step there. If you're following someone, place your foot in the footprint of the guy in front of and don't take a knee, just squat.

Former Combat Engineer here. There are fucking field manuals that go over this situation. It's fucked. You end up probing your way out, if you can't get better equipped engineers to probe there way to you.

My bro, also Army, once wen't through the training for self exfiltration from a mine field. They gave the ole' testee's a 10min time limit, due to the number or people they had to get through the lane. In the real world the time limit is... the rest of your life.

What type of mines?
Anti tank mines can't be activated by the weight of the average load trodden marine/soldier.
Anti personnel tend to be buried relatively closely and can be detected either by visually identifying them or prodding the ground lightly at an angle (usually with a non metal device like an MRE spoon)
Or you utilize your CMD or Valon (mandatory)
