So, I'm contemplating building an AK. I'm looking more so into doing a 5.56 ak as all my ranges don't allow steel cased/core ammo.
Is there a difference between a 5.45 bolt and 5.56 bolt? And where can I find 5.56 ak parts?

As far as I understood when I looked into it, you can run 5.56 in a Bulgarian 74 if you install a 5.56 barrel and use 5.56 magazines. No need to change bolt or bolt carrier.

will we ever get surplus beryls?

Nie, wieśniak kurwa :)

So, I was doing a little looking while bored at work. And it'll work if you use a siaga 223 barrel. Trying to figure out if a K-var 556 barrel will work directly or not.

I don't know what you mean buy build an AK but it takes more tools than an Ar-15.
You need to rivet trunions into receiver.
You will need vise and alignment blocks.

If the journal sizes match the trunnion and barrel component IDs you're probably good to go.

>Is there a difference between a 5.45 bolt and 5.56 bolt?
Yes, of course there is.
>And where can I find 5.56 ak parts?
Just buy a slr-106, then cut it into pieces. Now you've got the parts kit to make a 556 with decent features.

You'd be wrong. Very wrong. The carriers are the same, the bolts would never handle the wrong ammo. 556 fits loosely into a 545 bolt, expect constant failures to eject, assuming you can get the firing pin to line up with the 556 primer.

Just buy a vepr 556 and convert it

Internet lore says you're wrong. Very wrong.

I know, dude I work with has all the tooling needed to build one.
>>32029645
But that's not fun.

Well, I have a 556 ak and a 545 ak. I've done some minor experimenting and it doesn't appear to have a chance in hell. When chambered, the firing pin has a fair chance of lining up, but that's still not going to convince me that the extractor will grab. I think your bolt is going to be trying to rechamber the casing along with the next cartridge pretty often.
545 will absolutely not fit a 556 bolt, and 556 fits very loosely in a 545 bolt. I can't imagine the extractor working well, except by luck.
>Internet lore
If I had a dollar for every bullshit piece of "lore" I've heard on /k/...
Waste your money on this pipedream, but you'll have nobody but yourself to blame if it goes sour.

If you decide to do it, it should be a really damn cool project
Do it for the /k/ube
