Thumb over bore is supposed to help in competitions where you have to start at low ready. Proponents say you can get the rifle up faster and you don't overshoot when pulling it up. They also say it helps with recoil, which makes sense that you now have a downward force on the front of the gun keeping the muzzle down. Fuck if I know.
