All those fancy meme-o stocks /arg/ creams over end up doing the exact same thing as the cheap A2/A4 style stocks. Especially for a range toy, they make no real difference. Just finish your rifle with basic parts and go out an shoot it, I'm sure you'll love it. I have an AK-74 and an M16A2 clone, and I want to get an AKM with a side folding stock sometime. I've also shot many ARs besides my own. I think the AK slightly beats the M16A2 clone in terms of aesthetics and 5.45 is slightly better than 5.56. I also have more fun with and shoot better with my AK than any AR. Ammo availability isn't a real concern for me at least right now because I have over 3000 rounds of 5.45 for shtf and about 800 for shooting, and about 2000 rounds total for my AR. So the answer to your question is the AR-15 because I'd rather have that than an AKM and nothing else, but if I can have an AK-74 then I'd take that.

AR-15, hands down. Modularity and universality of all parts is a wonderful thing, but even if you keep your rifle bone stock, it's still a much better system from the user's perspective. There's a button or a lever to do everything with minimal hand movement and maximum ease, and you can mount any accessory anywhere on the rifle that you like. This is an asinine comparison. You can put together a Palmetto AR for about $500 ($150 complete lower, $300 upper with bcg and ch, and $40 for rear sight, $10 for magazine). Meanwhile, WASR's cost upward of $700 these days, and you're not getting any sort of fancy handguard or stock with the AK. Comparing apples to apples, AR's are now objectively cheaper to buy.
