I've got a beautiful Polish kit, and would love to make an AKML clone out of it. The only differences I'm seeing are the flash hider, side rail, and bipod, all of which I think I can find.

I'm having trouble finding any real detail on the AKML though. Does anyone have any more detailed info sources I could reference?

Do you mean a 7.62 kit, and just slap on an East German sidefolder, or do you mean a Tantal kit?
>>
>>32023602
Tantal for a braked 5.56 rifle.
>>
>>32023619
Well, if you're going with 5.56 for a Tantal kit, armsofamerica has them with a CL bbl included and the gas port already drilled. I don't have experience with those kits, but there are plenty of 5.56 Tantal builds out there, and there were very few modifications needed given that Tantals were designed for 5.45. I'd feel pretty comfortable jumping into that. I don't think it'd be any more difficult than a typical AK build, though you might have to switch out the bolt and bolt carrier. Builds I've seen use 5.56 bulgy bolts, which use standard 7.62 bolt carriers, if I remember correctly.

If you want it to take STANAG mags, you'll have to get a Canis or similar mag adapter.
>>
>>32023584
Why would you ever actually want one of those outside of using it on a Tantal where it is "correct"

Hey guys. I'm finally able to afford to buy an AK or an AR and I'm having to really think about which one I want to buy first. I've always always wanted an AK. I've gone to the range with an AK a few times, love how it shoots and feels, I have no problem with an AK at all. But I keep hearing pretty much everywhere that the AR-15 platform is more accurate and precise than the AK platform, particularly at longer ranges. Now I'm not too worried about long range shooting because I doubt I'd be shooting at very long ranges with an intermediate cartridge anyway, but I just wanted to get your guys perspectives on how accurate an AK can be compared to an AR. I know a ton of it goes down to the shooter and what the shooter prefers and performs better with. I feel like everywhere else is based in favor of the popular AR platform, so I wanted to get some of your perspectives.

Pic semi related, I'm getting it turned into a poster.

I want to pick up a semi auto .308 to hunt with, and I'm genuinely considering a Saiga (keeping it stock, no plans on converting it). I've already got my designated bolt gun that I hunt with but I just want something different. Are .308 Saigas accurate "enough" for hunting medium game out to at most 300 yards or so (even 300 is a long shot as its pretty dense here, I've never taken a deer farther than 70 yards or so).

I was wanting a Browning BAR but an AK would be just as cool because I'm already familiar with AKs and a Saiga would just add to my AK stash. I was considering a VEPR but I used to have a VEPR in 7.62x54r (sold it for a high price when people thought they were banned) and it was pretty heavy compared to every 20" Saiga I've ever handled.

I got there early and it didn't have a price marked on it. I asked how much they wanted for it and some 20 year old blonde said 500, I told her it'd be worth that much if it was the actual gun and that I'd give her 50 for it. I was already buying 250 dollars worth of other stuff so I guess she ust figured 'fuck it'.

If anyone is interested I'd take 1250 for it...

There's so many AK designations, makers, etc, which do you guys think is the best? I live in Michigan if it matters.

I might be selling a gun and if it goes through I'll have an extra $600 to spend on AK stuff. What should I get? More ammo? More mags (always need more mags even though I'm sitting on around 30 surplus 5.45 mags)? Decent deal on a beater AK? Save for something big? Save for something new once The Donald brings in fresh slavshit?

>>
>>32024442

>>
>>32024343

>>32024425

>>
>>32024463
I don't know much about the FNAR or BAR but I handled an FNAR in a gun store and it had the slickest action I've ever felt on a semi auto rifle. Seemed very well made.
>>
>>32024459
>Get bigger arms
It isn't about how heavy the gun is while shooting, it's about not wanting to haul around a huge 11 pound piece of steel innamountains
>bolt gun
It's a semi auto

>>32024463
I've thought about the FNAR but tbqh it's just too tacticool for me. BARs are around the same price if I shop around and they're just cooler. Thing is though a Saiga will fit my collection better, is an AK and therefor is simpler, and would be cheaper assuming I dig long enough. I just don't want it to not be minute of deer vitals and not kill cleanly.

>>32024494
Browning Arms Company didn't exist when the 1918 was being made tho, and it makes perfect sense for them to name their new autoloading rifle the Browning Automatic Rifle
>>
>>32024588
Yea it makes sense but the 1918 is still referred to as a Browning Automatic Rifle as well, you'd think they would at least call it the BAR2 or something. And get a sling come on now. A VEPR is gonna be like 9-10 pounds too
>>
>>32024410
Ew a ar ?

>I was considering a VEPR but I used to have a VEPR in 7.62x54r (sold it for a high price when people thought they were banned) and it was pretty heavy compared to every 20" Saiga I've ever handled
I'm not asking about VEPRs, I'm asking about Saigas which are a few pounds lighter. My old VEPR was about as heavy as my FAL is, and although its only 3 or 4 pounds heavier than a Saiga it adds up when lugging it around on a sling or not.
>>
>>32024439

I purchased my WASR10 late last year at 600 out the door including ffl fee, and a month ago people were selling second hand ones for 800 bucks. MOLOT VEPR
1.5mm receiver
Machine gun rated barrel
Chrome lined
VEPR w/out hotdog bun hand grip
Cool RPK style which didn't have a bayonet lug so it's appropriate, though did have cleaning rod. They do ship with rod just not mounted under barrel.
This is a Kick ass AK

No idea when they were first produced, but definitely sometime during the AKM life cycle, so somewhere between 1960 and 1977. I believe they were issued specifically to paratroopers with AKMSs.

I bought a wasr and it has extraction issues, I don't want to over react but I feel like the guns fucked, I only got about 20 rounds through it before it would immediately either fail to extract at all or it would catch it before it can insert the next round. I don't truly know the break down of an AK, I don't know what the extractor looks like or to be honest what the gas block is. Help?
>>
>>32029640
Take the bolt out and face the front of it directly towards you. The extractor is the spring loaded metal piece.

The upper handguard is attached to the gas tube. Follow the gas tube forward towards where it attaches to the thing that is attached to your barrel. That is the gas block. Check out your extractor and see if it looks damaged. Compare it to pics online

This isn't the first time I've heard of one of the new WASRs being shit right out of the box

>>
>>32031839
Yeah, it's not coming off. Lever comes up with the help of the bolt carrier, but I have to beat it back down with a mallet, and nothing gets the tube off. I'm sure it's canted though because even notebook paper won't go in the right side.

On a side note plums are practically locking up the mag release. I have to beat it to get them loose as well. Work them in and out for a while or file part of the mag?
>>
>>32031988
Yeah I know they jacked up their prices during the 2013 panic, but I never thought of it as a big deal since I saw PMC 5.56 going for $12 a box just about everywhere. I mostly go there for the low price shipping and cheap magazines.
>>
>>32032009
CDNN has better prices on mags right now I think
>>
>>32032002
Definitely work them in do not file.
>>
>>32032009
It'd be one thing if they just jacked up prices since a lot of people did, but the moment the news came in about Sandy Hook, CTD cancelled everyone's pending orders with stuff like mags and ammo before they relisted the same stuff at insane prices. Think "$99.99 USGI 30-round AR mag" insane.
>>
>>32032002
>Lever comes up with the help of the bolt carrier

If you have a cleaning kit in the buttstock there is a slot in the cleaning kit tube that is made just for turning the lever up and down.

Do you know that once you turn the lever up you have to line it up just right for the gas tube to slide up and out?

Not calling you stupid or anything, just don't know if this is your first AK or not.

Definitely crooked. I can see just looking from the top. If I line up the front and rear sight, then the muzzle break is off center. If I line up the front sight and the brake, the rear sight is off center, and if I line up the rear sight and brake, the front sight is off center.

i wish I had saved the pictures from my canted RSB 104ur. It was way worse than that. The whole barrel assembly was twisted. I sold it and bought another and the replacement is nearly perfect.
>>
>>32032506
104FR. I bought a 104ur recently too, just a touched canted but straight enough that it doesn't be bother me. I sure miss the assembly quality of the 2008-2012 rifles even bough the paint was shittier
>>
>>32032045
Thanks. After about 50 insertions I can get them out hitting the mag release less hard with the mallet, but it's still nearly impossible to do with fingers. Another 20 minutes and they should be good.
>>
>>32032289
Interesting.
>>
>>32032525
How would you compare it to this one? Better or worse? I don't mind moving the front sight over a turn or two, but if it's right next to the ear I'd be a bit salty.
>>
>>32032615
The one bad 104FR I had was a good deal worse than yours, maybe a full twice as canted lol. Getting the dust cover on was a kind of difficult, I had to slap the gas tube to get it to seat. The gas tube itself was twisted a good 10 degrees. I'm sure it would function but...

PSA AK-47 GB2

> Not to be satisfied with just a good AK, we kept improving and now are proud to announce our PSAK-47 GB2 rifle with a billet steel barrel block (front trunion) and bolt.

I don't know anything about AK's does this mean its less shit or what?
>>
>>32032731
I meant with your new one that's slightly canted.
>>
>>32032826
Oh..a little less than yours. It's ard notice it unless you really bear down and get a bead on it. It's easy to exaggerate the cant if it's not sitting level on something.

WASR 10, probably the most underated gun on the market right now. I've put at least 6k rounds through mine. Never jammed and has never missed.

Billet could be good. Milspec for AK front trunnions is a heat-treated milled forging. Some of the "made in 'Murika" builders are using cast trunnions which are SHIT.

We'll see when someone does a review. Otherwise we don't know any more than you do about it.

I have heard that a lot of drum type AK mags that have hit the market recently are of poor quality. Can anyone elaborate, and tell us what's good and what's bad in the world of drum mags? Thanks.

Okay. Dumb question: will all the Korean drums be marked as such?

I've seen at recent gun shows some drums sold packaged in unmarked plastic bags with a clear plastic back plate (seemed very lightweight and insubstantial and not very well made), drums in red boxes marked "Red Army Standard" of uncertain origin (had a metal back plate and also seemed very light and insubstantial). These are the bad ones, right?

Also,

>the cutie with the AKSU74

I think I'm in love. You're going to tell me that "she" has a dick, aren't you?
>>
>>32023584
>Do any of you fags have any experience with them?
Yeah, and like every ak wire folder, they're garbage that should be replaced ASAP.
The vz58 has the only wire folder that actually feels and works pretty ok.
Not sure what's worse feeling, an underfolder or ak wire folder.

yep. probably bigger than yours. and not just long, but girth for days.

I like the contrast.

If it makes you feel any better I do plan to turn it into an 80s style triangle folder with a bit of flare to it. Got that Maadi blue grip too.

You're exaggerating.

Last question to bug everyone with, but is it worth it to switch out the US made brake with a chromed Bulgarian brake?
>>
>>32033321
In terms of usability:

Hungarian/Egyptian "crutch" folder < East German/Romy/Polish wire folder < MP40 style underfolder < pressed steel triangle folder < AK100 style polymer folder with steel hinge and steel latch mechanism

I find the underfolders barely tolerable if wrapped carefully in paracord and triangle folders decisively superior. The "crutch" type folders and wire folders are horrid things that make the rifle--already a 75 year old iron sight design--that much harder to use efficiently under stress. I know some people love the looks of the various folders but for me the Bulgy/Russian triangle is the absolute minimum I'm willing to pay for. Otherwise the original wood is perfectly okay for the purpose of the rifle.

I'm clueless about the AK market, has DDI put out good rifles previously? I'm really digging their newest one and the price point is attractive to me, it'd also be my first AK. Would love to SBR it to have a AK-105 look-alike.

AKOU has one for testing. Extractor literally snapped off after about 500 rds.
>>
>>32033504
The DDI rifle Rob Ski reviewed did not do well.

I am somewhat saddened by this because I like the gas block front sight + flash suppressor + folder configurations they offer, which are non-trivial to add to a build that starts with a parts kit.

Does anyone know where/if the fixed stock "plum" polymer AK-74's saw any action? I've seen a ton of them in the Ukrainian conflict, some pictures of them (well, mixed-furniture fixed stocks) used by MVD in Chechnya, and rumors of them appearing in Afghanistan, but otherwise not much info. It seems that quite a few were made, where did they go?

I'm guessing the fact that they're advertising this means it's an upgrade? So they were previously using cast trunnions, which are trash. Billet is an improvement but forged is still king. Keep in mind the bolt lugs are machined into the front trunnion so it's very important for the front trunnion to be one of the toughest parts on the gun.

Aw shit, something wrong with RGuns?

is muzzle brake wobble normal? My wasr wobbles and im wondering if this is bad man.
>>
>>32034207
No. I was just making fun at the fact RGuns has had a fair supply of their Izhmash plum 74 kits for many years. Implying that the majority of plum fixed stock 74s ended up there.

In truth I'm not entirely sure on were the plum fixed stock 74s went. I would speculate that since it was only a short time after their development the 74M was introduced, many of them ended up as overstock in satellite countries or were packed into warehouses.Which would explain why there are so many in Ukraine.

>>
>>32033563
They dont start as parts kits anymore, these ones are the all American parts ones.
>>
>>32036020
I'm aware, but if you want a rifle that configuration that DDI didn't build, you pretty much have to start with a parts kit--and then get a triangle folder. And obtain the special receiver that goes with that. And get the gas block front sight...
>>
>>32036067
Ah yeah I see, the only other manufacture who does the kinda build you looking for is arsenal and right now they are not importing stamped 7.62 aks, I think the DDI folders are supposed to be 50 dollars more(think they said that on akfiles but not sure) that the fixed stock guns, so for 50 dollars more that's a really good deal considering the akbuilder trunnions and triangle stocks are 174 dollars and made in taiwan.
