Because there is not market-wide standards, thus the economies of scale makes it more expensive.

The closest you get is shit like Beretta mags working in multiple manufacturers guns, same thing with CZ mags. Only because they are clones.

If the US comes up with a mag standard, STANAG for pistols, then we might have a better market.

Put things into perspective. Stamped, tacked, aluminum rifle mags that cost a fourth as much to produce are still more than half as expensive.
