Let's have a thread of real badasses. Genuine ones. I want a motivational line up.

Give me people who are/were warriors, both fighters and soldiers, and then some.

No politicians please, only badasses.

>Despite the critical wounds received during the initial Chinese salvo, Simon courageously sprang into action. With no regard for personal safety he crawled down to the lower decks and assisted his fellow crewmen by leading damage control teams to sailors trapped under debris, and remaining with them, meowing for help until it arrived. For the next two hours Simon worked without rest, traveling to the various batteries and instilling morale with his presence. Only then did he allow himself to rest and be treated by the ship's surviving medical staff. He was not expected to survive.
>Refusing orders to be evacuated on the 22nd, Simon made a spectacular recovery from his wounds and promptly returned to duty, leading efforts to control the spread of vermin throughout the ship.
>For his conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while serving with His Majesty's Navy, Simon is hereby awarded the Dickin Medal

Here's one, The 5th earl of Longford.
"During the First World War Lord Longford commanded the 2nd South Midland Mounted Brigade of the 2nd Mounted Division, a yeomanry formation, with the rank of Brigadier-General. The Division was initially based in Egypt but was sent dismounted to Suvla on the Gallipoli peninsula as reinforcements during the Battle of Sari Bair. On 21 August 1915 the Division was in reserve for the final attack on Scimitar Hill. When the initial attack by the 29th Division failed, the yeomanry were ordered to advance in the open across a dry salt lake. Raked by shrapnel fire, most of the brigades halted in the shelter of Green Hill but Longford led his brigade in a charge which captured the summit of the hill. As he continued to advance, he was killed. His last words before his death were, reputedly "Don't bother ducking, the men don't like it and it doesn't do any good...."

Longford's body was never recovered as the British made no further advances before the evacuation of Suvla on 20 December. "

He's supposedly part of the reason why British commanders and officers have been known to just casually stroll around the battlefields without ducking or being afraid of bullets along with Winston Churchill quote that "No use ducking the bullets would already be past you."
>>
>>32012211
Held the record for confirmed kills for over forty years until Chris Kyle beat him.
>>
>>32012562

...do you really not know about Teddy? He was shot in the chest in the middle of giving a speech and decided to finish it before seeking medical attention.

"“Friends, I shall ask you to be as quiet as possible. I don’t know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot.”

He literally unbuttoned his shirt to show people the gaping hole in his chest. And then he pulls out his blood stained manuscript and apologizes for the fact that there's a hole in it. The man wanted to kill Germans so badly that he volunteered to raise four full divisions of volunteers to enter the war, and Congress said yes. Probably because they were fucking terrified of saying no. He was shafted in the end when they decided that sending a professional military expeditionary force was more civilized.

>Not a badass in all regards, memes aside

"Teddy Roosevelt was a man of action and preferred to lead from the front. He stunned the country when he resigned his powerful and comfortable position as assistant secretary of the Navy to establish and lead the Rough Riders in the Spanish American War. He achieved lasting fame by leading his regiment in a bold charge up Kettle Hill in the Battle of Santiago. Personally, he was upbeat and dominant. As President, he was a skilled diplomat, negotiating many issues favorable to the U.S., including Alaska's boundary with Canada. He even helped bring an end to the Russo-Japanese war of 1904-1905, for which he received the Nobel Peace Prize."

I like the part where, on his last months of the same deployment that would put him up for the medal of honor, and only weeks after the events that would later be described at the MOH award ceremony...

Then CPL Meyer, rolling in tandem with an Army convoy in support of Afghan Army, came under fire.

Well, the front of the patrol came under fire. Specifically guys that Dakota had served with for the past months of the deployment. Meyer, still stitched up from the past fight (Yea, that fight) ran to the front to organize the attack and then back tracked to try and see what was taking the Army elements so long to deploy. An army captain (female, if I recall) told the corporal (MARSOC, mind you) to fuck off.

Meyer disagreed quite loudly and called into question the merits of the captains position and purpose. The skirmish was eventually handled with minor wounds and folks moved on, but the captain wrote up a massive reprimand that very nearly cost Meyer any sort of recognition for the events that had happened only weeks prior.

Using a vastly out classed destroyer and taking on a much larger, German Cruiser, The HMS Glowworm's final attack, while on fire and partially sinking, was to charge and ram the Admiral Hipper. The HMS Glowworm struck the heavy cruiser and water flooding the destroyer's lower decks caused the boilers to explode almost instantly.

Upon returning to Germany, the Captain of the Admiral Hipper wrote a letter to the British Navy via the British Consulate in Switzerland describing the bravery and devotion to duty exhibited by the British captain of the Glowworm.

Based almost entirely off the German Captain's report, Captain Breadmeade Roope was posthumously awarded the Victorian Cross.

"Mad Jack" Churchill

>Lieutenant-Colonel John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming "Jack" Churchill, DSO & Bar, MC & Bar (16 September 1906 – 8 March 1996) was a British Army officer who fought throughout the Second World War armed with a longbow, bagpipes, and a basket-hilted Scottish broadsword.

>Nicknamed "Fighting Jack Churchill" and "Mad Jack", he is known for the motto: "Any officer who goes into action without his sword is improperly dressed."

>It is claimed that Churchill also carried out the last recorded longbow and arrow killing in action, shooting a German NCO in 1940 in a French village during the Battle of France.[1]

>"He and his section were in a tower and as the Germans approached he said 'I will shoot that first German with an arrow, and that's exactly what he did."

>Churchill was said to be unhappy with the sudden end of the war, saying: "If it wasn't for those damn Yanks, we could have kept the war going another 10 years!"

Adria Carton de Wiart

>Lieutenant General Sir Adrian Paul Ghislain Carton de Wiart[1] VC, KBE, CB, CMG, DSO (5 May 1880 – 5 June 1963) was a British Army officer born of Belgian and Irish parents, and recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration awarded for valour "in the face of the enemy" in various Commonwealth countries.[2] He served in the Boer War, First World War, and Second World War; was shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip, and ear; survived two plane crashes; tunnelled out of a prisoner-of-war camp; and tore off his own fingers when a doctor refused to amputate them. Describing his experiences in the First World War, he wrote, "Frankly I had enjoyed the war."[3]

>In his memoirs, Carton de Wiart wrote, "Governments may think and say as they like, but force cannot be eliminated, and it is the only real and unanswerable power. We are told that the pen is mightier than the sword, but I know which of these weapons I would choose."

He made himself walk again after stepping on a landmine. Made himself walk again and was almost declared dead after a later mission in which he was wounded 37 times, but when the doc looked at his body he spit at him to let him know he was alive. Fun fact, Germany was the only country to give a pension to its native Askari troops.
So some treasury officials traveled down to Tanzania right in the middle of the Weimar government's depression to give away money to the black soldiers who fought in WW1. They show up and quickly realize that there was no real bookkeeping done on the Askari, and that getting definite proof of their employment would be impossible. So they come up with a solution.
They took all the applicants together and gave them brooms from the hotel they were staying at, and decided to drill them in the German manual of arms.
The men performed flawlessly, and not a single applicant missed a command. When the officials asked the men why they still retained this information a decade after their service ended, all the answers were the same:
"Mister Von Lettow would be very cross at us if we were unprepared for his return."

Private First Class Doss was a company aid man when the 1st Battalion assaulted a jagged escarpment 400 feet high. As our troops gained the summit, a heavy concentration of artillery, mortar and machine gun fire crashed into them, inflicting approximately 75 casualties and driving the others back. Pfc. Doss refused to seek cover and remained in the fire-swept area with the many stricken, carrying all 75 casualties one-by-one to the edge of the escarpment and there lowering them on a rope-supported litter down the face of a cliff to friendly hands.

From Wikipedia:
>Rudel flew 2,530 combat missions on the Eastern Front of World War II. The majority of these were undertaken while flying the Junkers Ju 87, although 430 were flown in the ground-attack variant of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190. He was credited with the destruction of 519 tanks, severely damaging the battleship Marat, as well as sinking a cruiser, a destroyer and 70 landing craft. Rudel also claimed to have destroyed more than 800 vehicles of all types, over 150 artillery, anti-tank or anti-aircraft positions, 4 armored trains, as well as numerous bridges and supply lines. Rudel was also credited with 9 aerial victories, 7 of which were fighter aircraft and 2 Ilyushin Il-2s. He was shot down or forced to land 30 times due to anti-aircraft artillery, was wounded five times and rescued six stranded aircrew from enemy held territory.

Such a beautiful motherfucker.

>>
>>32028009
It always takes time to raise a unit like that.

At first you need volunteers. The problem with volunteers is basically the same as it is with a box of chocolate; you don't necessarily really exactly know yet what you get.

But if you are lucky enough, your team starts to gain mission insight, starts to work together and eventually gains name so that it starts to draw in better budget. And now the better guys start to get interested in your thing as well.
