I'm pretty happy with it. And that's coming from a guy that isn't a fan of glocks. It can be a little jumpy, but took about 700 rounds till I got used to it.

If you can go for the gen4. I think the added girth from the interchangable grips would help.

I didn't have any jams or anything like thay, and it's a heavy used gun when I got a hold of it.

In general:

- Sights are pretty much a necessity. The OEM ones are designed poorly dimensions-wise (.160W front, .140W rear -- not a lot of light visible). Add in dings and mold lines and they just suck. There's a lot of personal preference involved, but avoid some of the more gimmicky ones. Personally, I like an uncluttered rear and a highly-visible (fiber optic or painted ring) front. Dimensions-wise, .125"W front for tritium, .115"W for fiber is my preference, rear notch in the .140"-.160" range.
- Trigger kits can induce reliability or safety concerns. Some aftermarket connectors are less durable than OEM due to the removed metal. If you're going to go outside of OEM parts, avoid any changes to the striker spring on a defensive gun as well as anything that may alter the drop safety (many pre-travel reduction kits will disable the drop safety).
- I like a grip plug mainly for the magazine guide aspect (I'll sometimes get hung up on the open channel otherwise), but apparently it also keeps sand and such out of the trigger area -- not that it matters because I don't frequent areas with sandstorms and don't put my guns through retarded YouTube torture tests.
- Extended controls can be useful. I like Vickers for the magazine release. I'm OK with the OEM slide release. OEM extended I find that I tend to ride while shooting so I don't use it. I will not use a Vickers slide release again after having two separate units induce repeated malfunctions on two separate guns, but I do believe it's just about the perfect size.
- Magwells aren't really needed. It's a double-stack gun with a very generous magwell as it is.
- I find my Gen 4 barrels capable of ~2" @ 25yds with quality JHP -- good enough. They also work with my coated hardcast reloads. However, some people like match barrels because muh accuracy and also concerns about leading if they're using reloads. Plenty of options. I've used Wilson barrels in the past with good success.

My plain jane 19.

I like it. I don't love it, but that's what I kind of like about it. It's nice to have a gun that I don't have to worry about dropping, dry firing into oblivion, and putting tons of rounds through it with very little maintenance, and if god forbid I did have to use it in self defense, having it sit in an evidence locker forever wouldn't be that big a deal to me.

I plan on changing the sights but not much else. If I want a comfortable gun with a nice trigger I'll just reach for something else.

I bought my first Glock on Tuesday and shot 150 rounds through it yesterday, its my second handgun and first Glock. The gun was very accurate and fun to shoot, the only problem I had was when I loaded one round in the chamber and a full magazine, the first round fired but the slide didn't move forward all the way when it picked up the second round. I just manually cycled the gun and had no problems further.

The other times I only loaded 15 rounds in a magazine at a time, is this a normal problem with a new gun or something that I should be concerned about, I was shooting fairly light loaded 115 grain reloads, I have about 300 rounds of 115 grain left and plan on switching to 147 grain after that.

My Rock Island 1911 is just as combat ready as your glock with the added bonus that it is anything but a glock.

Yes, I've heard about the recoil spring problem my recoil spring has the numbers 042 written on them, I had one casing hit me in the face, which I've also heard people complain about. I think the failure was a result of the ammunition being too weak for the stiff springs, and maybe the magazine spring being too tight to cycle with 17 rounds, the last round was hard to load, I think with another 300 or so round all problems should be sorted.

I really enjoyed the pistol yesterday, the trigger seemed stiff when dry-firing at home but this was not noticeable firing live ammunition, the gun shot about 1,5'' low at 10 meters but was dead on at 25m. I was told at the gunshop that the trigger pull will become lighter with use.

Again try some 124 grain. Your cycling isdues will dissapear.

19's and smaller like 115, but with the longer slide of the 17 and especially the 34 they need a little extra oomph to get them to cycle reliably.

That or a spring swap, but I'd try ammo first.

147 sounds like some self defense stuff, which would be nice in a mag or two for defensive carry. But for plinking and target/range shooting 124 grain fmj will keep you running all day.

No it isn't. I have owned a lot of pistols.
G19, G29, Sig SP2022, Sig P250, Sig 226, Para 1911, Sig 1911, HK VP9, HK USP, and CZ 75B.

My Glock 19 is my carry weapon for a reason. It's not the most tacticool or the most aesthetic, but it is the most reliable. It is leagues more reliable than any 1911 I've had. It holds twice the capacity. It's far more drop safe.

If it's not your favorite, fine, but don't be a fucking chode and lie to people.

I feel the same as you but I'd also like to add that I've tried numerous guns to replace my glocks as carry because I always get this feeling that there's something better out there. However the Glock's aftermarket, cheap and widely available spare parts, how easy it is to completely disassemble the gun, AND how size efficient (not too wide and not too tall) just makes it the perfect gun for home defense or carry depending on the model.

The Walther PPQ and Sig P320c are the 2 guns I liked a lot for the ergonomics and better trigger. But both were extremely tall and difficult to conceal on me personally. The Walther's limited aftermarket/parts availability was a little concerning even when the gun's been out for a while. The P320 is a little too chunky and tall due to it being a modified P250. The higher bore axis combined with cheap, light polymer frame makes the gun feel a bit off balanced and top heavy.

In my experience, if you want something better, you have to modify your setup, either the gun or the holster or the clothes you wear.

There is a comfortable set up out there for you. You just have to find it. I use the G19 with slipover grips and an aliengear iwb holster. During the winter, I switch to an owb and carry my 29 with extended grip magazine.
