Because 4GW is a meme. There's nothing new or revolutionary there that didn't exist the first time slaves or peasants decided that kissing some master's ass wasn't for them but knew enough that they'd never stand a chance if they tried to take the master's forces on head to head in the kind of war the master knew how to fight.

>>
somebody help me understand the light rail enthusiast joke
>>
>>32007338
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_S._Lind
>>
>>32007365
I'm just not sure why light rail is a bad thing. Or is it just some irrelevant thing that has nothing to do with 4GW?
>>
>>32007338
>>32007388

There were several threads that tore the book apart.

Lind, the author, is a light rail enthusiast, and it shows in all of his books how trains are the greatest mode of transport ever conceived by mankind.

The joke is that the book sucks, Lind is a moron, and he is autistically obsessed with trains.
>>
>>32007417
Ah. Thanks.
I guess I should have realized that trains are a pretty autistic hobby
>>
>>32007423

Well I mean liking trains isn't autistic, but he is fucking obsessed with them, to the point of hilarity.

The book is him literally just spewing 4GW memes and talking about how trains are so much better and more efficient than cars and that's why Victoria is so successful.
>>
>>32007423

Also, there is no buildup the entire book.

>the odds are against the protagonists
>autistic Prussian TRUE CHRISTIAN MARINE comes up with an insane plan involving RETRO CULTURE and "obsolete" technology that hasn't been used in years/decades/centuries
>plan works
>the people circle jerk about how fantastic it is that trains are everywhere and computers are illegal and democracy was outlawed

Rinse repeat until the book ends.

Not a single time in the entire book does a plan not pan out PREFECTLY for the protagonists, and every single prediction they make comes true. It is laughably bad.
>>
>>32007435
Don't forget T-34s from the Tsar, the Prussiaboo wank, CORN, "diamond formations defeat AMRAAMS," and stealth is a meme.
>>
>>32007474
>>32007480

Don't forget that ideology always succumbs to reality, but retroculture isn't an ideology so it's A-okay!
>>
>>32007474
>It is laughably bad.
like $9.99 worth of laughs, or does someone have a link somewhere?
>>
>>32007423
Trains move along predictable lines and are easy to control. That draws in the autists.

Arguably the best parts of the book are the train rides. The detailed landscape narratives and train details were comfy.
>>
>>32007545
What astonished me about the book was that there were parts of it with genuinely decent writing and world building. In the hands of someone who wasn't a mega turbo autist like Lind, it could have made for an interesting read.

>>32007535
Lind put up most of the book on his website, but after the 35th chapter you have to pay for it.
>>
>>32007535

It's bad. Really bad. I think the first half? of the book is free somewhere. Or you can torrent it.
>>
>>32007545
Speaking as an actual autist, you're surprisingly correct, but they're also popular with a lot of us because they're very well organized, and can be fitted very neatly into specific categories and types, they're complicated but not in a confusing, nebulously way, and they don't require a bunch of social interaction to participate in your hobby.

Y'know, like guns.
>>
>>32007474
You're underselling the LIND-SANITY. The cold open ended on "The church returned to the unpleasant duty of setting faggots to the torch.", Radio shack has more reliable and secure comms equipment than the entire US military, the Prussiaboo having the faculty meeting of a college murdered by the local milita with gladii while monks chanted in latin. God those threads got me through like two weeks.
>>
>>32003822
Ya the ok. A book in which solders cant shoot zombies in the head because they've been trained to shoot center mass.
>>
>>32007582
Don't underestimate the power of Lo Pan!
>>
>>32003776
You didn't try very hard since I pulled the picture from there.

I will recommend Professor Parabellum's Practical Scrap Metal Arms series.
>>
>>32007582
>>32007637

Lo Pan has cast an extremely effective and highly specific curse!
>>
>>32007576
I was just discussing this with a coworker. We guessed guns might be too loud and infinitely customizable for autism to focus on IRL. Gun stats and historical data would work, though. Then you get stuff like khyber pass specials...

>>32007578
>victory in the 2040s
>new country established
>ban all tech post 1930
>everyone supports this
>somehow develop cold fusion
>dirigibles return

I imagine the last quarter of the book was just internal Victorian propaganda while the reformed US beseiged juche New England. But since I was playing advanced warfare the thought of power armor Prussian knights sounded cool.
>>
>>32007738
I was a fan of the theory that the Prussiaboo didn't actually exist, except as a figment of what's his name's shattering psyche as the Feds rolled over his maple republic while he stayed in his bunker and invented scenarios in which he won.
>>
>>32002999
Of course. We're non-degenerate WHITE Christians here
>>
>>32007738
You'd be surprised about autist and guns then I think. The loud noise thing is pretty easy to help with earpro or just never actually shooting, and the infinite customization just leaves room for infinite hyper-focus. Also, mechanical things are wonderful in general, and along with trains, I'd say the second more popular are cars, and really just "things that go" in general.

Also, fun fact, autists calm down if you squeeze them, like a cow
>>
>>32007738
>Ban all tech post 1930s

I think the cut off for retroculture was the 1950s. It'd be sweet so read about a dude who cosplays a fucking greaser to rattle Victorian cages with his motorcycle and rock n roll.

Well, since we're already discussing Sci-Fi and Fantasy-

Anything by John Ringo. Anything by David Drake. Anything by Robert Heinlein. Anything by David Weber. Anything by S.M. Stirling.

If you're looking for non-fiction-

Goodbye Darkness by William Manchester

Tank Sergeant by Ralph Zumbro

Chickenhawk by Robert Mason

Black Hawk Down by Mark Bowden

Those Devils in Baggy Pants by Ross Carther

The Big E by Edward Peary Stafford

Plus a half dozen or so titles by Martin Caidin, the same for Stephen Ambrose.

first book was decent, flaws were the villains being cartoonishly evil and the protagonists being super pure innocent saints types. the second book was better, slightly more realistic characters, although the author must hate lesbians as it seemed half the antagonists were dykes.

I bought them both at a gunshow when I was getting more into firearms along with Boston's Gun Bible, another good /k/ read, and I admit they did kinda influence me into a goofy prepper/militia mindset with regard to gun stuff and being even more paranoid about the government wanting to future regulate and ban em.

haven't found a download of the 3rd one, if anyone knows where to find it..

>As the roads began to dry out, in that Spring of 2039, they again bore citizens carrying petitions. The return of real democracy meant that when our people wanted to do something, they could. The proposed new law was simple and clear: “Resolved, that it shall be unlawful in the Northern Confederation to use any technology not in common usage in the year 1930.”
>That meant radio was legal, but not television. Electric cars and trucks were all right, but only with lead-acid batteries and that made them short range forms of transportation. The price of oil still made gas cars unaffordable. No computers, DVDs, Xerox machines, cell phones, sat phones, none of that witches’ brew of technologies that had so undermined the old ways of living. An exception was made for the armed forces and for medical technologies, but nothing else

The abandoned Abrams were buried on the coast up to the turret as an ad hoc coastal battery.

The Leviathan series by Scott Westerfield was pretty good. For "young adults" so it's not a challenging read as such, it's not bad though.

It's basically steampunk vs biopunk First World War. Pretty cool. Would have been good to have a more adult version but the concept and overall story was neat. Artwork too.

Basically everything by Harry Turtledove, especially the Worldwar trilogy where fucking aliens invade during the height of WWII expecting precisely not that and then they discover what happens when you piss off the entire sum of humanity. It extends into another trilogy too.

Also the huge series where the Civil War ended differently, and the CSA succeeded and Lincoln was so shamed that he turned into a Marxist that nobody listened to.

Tom Clancy's long as fuck Jack Ryan the Destroyer series. Watch The Hunt for Red October again after reading the book, makes you appreciate a time when they stayed true to shit.

ahaha oh this book, I never got to read it but the excerpts I've seen are pretty good humor material

I'm prepared but at some point if a guy doesn't stop and go, "you know most of this shit is useless," then he's bullshitting himself. Unless I'm wildly mistaken, that book's plot is just a crazy mess of "but... why?" on repeat.
>>
>>32011825

It's a book about good Christian family executing baby eating communists in post-apocalyptic America. They also fight off a UN invasion.
>>
>>32011878
So it's exactly as I said, a never-ending stream of "but why?" because literally none of that would happen.

>be Europe
>USA implodes somehow
>everyone losing their shit
>"oh damn Germany we're gonna be so poor!"
>Greece laughing
>half of Europe secretly glad those SHITLORDS will stay out of their business
>the other half shitting bricks because they're defenseless
>plucky Poland realizes it must save Europe
>"persons of Euro we must be of savings America immediate now"
>"how?"
>"use UN, give food and soap so belly stop noise and they can be of makings into clean"
>Europe fires up the UN aid machine, drops aid packages
>Everyone is happy, still don't know how the fuck the USA imploded literally overnight without warning
>everyone except for Rawles
>"fucking UN...." he says, scowling up at the sky
>if only the GOD DAMN GOVERNMENT hadn't of stood in his way, he'd kill those NWO motherfuckers with his SAM battery
>everyone starts rebuilding as best they can without their computerized civilization, world is angry
>not as angry as Rawles
>he makes his way across the nation, executing people for no reason
>sees UN aid workers trying to get the phones working
>"GLOBALIST INVASION! LIGHT EM UP!"
>Malaysians who can't speak a lick of English cut down
>German in charge takes a round, yells out in furious Deutsch
>"KRAUTS HAVE FINALLY DONE IT"
>German drags Britbong technician to the truck, drives off at full speed
>Rawles smirks, clutching his rifle and chuckles. "We sure showed them!"
>they keep moving
>just making their way along
>suddenly, US Army! Form of, artillery!
>Rawles and his family identified as warlord with raiding party, military gives no fucks and shells them
>His last thoughts are of how he misses Idaho
>Rawles whispers, "gone... like potatoes, in the rain..."

The last of this kind of book I've read was the The Turner Diaries, almost ten years ago and only because I didn't take anyone's word for how bad it was.

I mean, besides the amounts of retardation involved with justifying how a militia of less than 2000 people somehow managed to control several US states and biological and nuclear warfare have no impact in the lives of the protagonists.

What actually helps putting those books in the full metal retard tier, is how they are obviously the author's Mary Sue self insert on a murder fantasy on the people the author hates, the protagonists so poorly written to the pointof being completely unlikable and the antagonists coming off as being more sympathetic or reasonable than the protagonists.

I'm reading pic related right now.

A story about a family and a few others that hide out in a bomb shelter while the ruskies and burgerbros sling nukes at each other. A nuke explodes over the shelter, somehow transporting the occupants into the future. The future apparently consists of a race of people who blame what I can only assume is the white race for the war, and enslaves them.

A few points that i've read so far.

>strong leader figure (the dad)
>son who questions his fathers authority but routinely gets put in his place
>negro helper
>themes of insest (the daughter literally says to the dad "if i was going to marry anyone, it would be you, you can have me if you want me, you always could have")

I'm only 1/3 of the way through, so I'm not 100% sure how I will like it.

Aspie here, my autistic focus is guns for those exact reasons. I was always interested in mechanical objects as a kid and my parents would buy me books that had those 'cut halfway open and shown at an angle' pictures of vehicles, and then later super-outdated and incorrect 'gun encyclopedia's'. It satiated me, but now that i'm an adult, I plan to design some guns of my own, even if they may be impractical/outdated; if it works, i'd be content.

Also autism genuinely sucks but isn't as bad as what the meems make it out to be. You just can't really talk to or interact with people IRL that well and some certain things annoy the fuck outta you (heat and cotton for me).

Shoulda clarified, the scratchy kinda cotton clothing sets me off. It's HORRIBLE. For most people it's just simply uncomfortable but for me... guuuuhhh.
>>
>>32028013
To be fair I have my own reee triggers. I hate having wet or sticky hands, wet it's just uncomfortable but sticky shit on my hands drives me up the fucking wall.

One time I was working at this furniture store full of shitheads and in the breakroom somebody got nasty dollar store jelly all over the goddamn place. I put my hand in it, get instantly pissed, go get a napkin and the entire thing is just this purple, soggy mess. I whipped around and yelled, "WHICH ONE OF YOU HAMHANDED COCKSUCKERS DO I GOT TO FACE FUCK UNTIL YOU STOP GETTING GOOBLY GODDAMN SHIT ALL OVER!" I yelled so loud that they heard me across the store and out in the yard. Like the guys on the loading dock thought there was a fight or something, all they heard was incoherent yelling.

That's my reee moment, I was going to lose my shit at some point but that made me go from 0 to 9001 in a second. I told the owner to go fuck himself when he threatened to fire me and then I said, "this is what I think of you and my fat fuck coworkers," before forcing myself to vomit right there.

>security laughed as they escorted me out
>"please don't come back and shoot up the place anon"
>I might have thought about it
>for days
Unsurprisingly the place went under years ago, building is still empty.

Then they made it so that if a black is accused of a crime, the trial has to be carried out within 48 hours, the jury made up of the accused's accusers or something equally iffy. The sentence for any crime committed by a black is hanging, to be carried out within 24 hours of the verdict's delivery.

Basically, Lind hates the American justice system, freedom, and rights.

Wasn't that one brought up by CORN too? Because as I remember it, they could live in cities, but if they had kids then they had to go become sharecroppers because to returned them to their roots or improved moral fiber or some nonsense. I also just remembered the most terrifying thing in the entire book that actually freaked me out, which was the old wives network/lynch mob system by where people doing things that the community deemed bad could be dealt with as the community saw fit, and I shouldn't have to illustrate why that's fucking petrifying.
>>
>>32029116
No no, I think the jury was made up of people from the same block and/or people who knew the accused. Y'know, the least impartial people possible.

Yeah, that was. I think the option was live in the country to farm or be deported. Either way, pants on head retarded.

>>32029647
It was either that or people who lived near where the crime was committed. Regardless, it's a pretty iffy way of trial by jury.

I think the first half of the book actually happened (with half truths and spin) before the narrator really goes off the rails. In this case, the mass black migration to amish farms seems like a quaint antebellum throwback. In reality, it probably went like a Khmer Rouge style purge, just with more barns.

Well, it's kind of self-serving, but it's none the less /k/-related. Been lurking off and on and published this less than a month ago. Zombies, firearms, bayonets, reloading ammo, hunting, and even has a bit of sex and/or rape thrown in. Living amongst the Dead. It's selling like hotcakes, if cake was hot little clumps of fecal matter nearly sculpted into the general shape of a book.

... what's 'famalam', though?

This. Pretty awesome read. I also enjoyed the Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks immensely back when I was in high school.

>who is ant man?
He's dead, for one thing, we had his roommate come on one day and confirm that he passed away from a brain tumor, which probably explains a lot of the following.

He was a crazy guy who wanted to weaponize ants, and liked to torture and kill small animals and feed them to this giant ant nest he had found near his hovel.

Most of the 40K novels.

I mean seriously, immature science-fantasy about a galaxy of eternal over-the-top warfare? All it needs to do is replace the Emperor with The Kube and it's practically "40/K/"

How does one cuck a book? I'm not aware of any jurisdiction on the planet where books can legally marry.

Marriage is kind of the fundamental basis of any type of cuckoldry.
