Fired my first newly completed AR. Was fine for the first couple rounds than it failed to eject. The gas block was pushed forward from my first couple of successful rounds so the gas tube was no longer in contact with gas key. I have a low-profile gas block with hand-tightened set screws and blue Loctite and don't have a drill readily available to make a dimple. Is there anyway to keep the set screws in place without dimpling? Should I just try again by re-tightening the set screws?

Anyone just using the moniker "EMT" can mean literally anything from a 30 minute refresher course to a degree program. It's sort of like simply saying "nurse" just means "medical provider". It just happens to mean more emergent types of medical care. I'm rabbling, but the short of it is that because of state to state expectations and executions of instruction or even city by city differences between medical director protocols, it's hard for the phrase "EMT" to mean anything automatically other than "a typically trained first responder".

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians has regimented guidelines and continuing education standards in an effort to provide a uniform baseline of skills and knowledge across the states and (GENERALLY SPEAKING) having a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician number will also generate reciprocity with your state of residence. For example, I obtained my NREMT (EMT-B at the time, that has since been phased out of the National Registry ranking system). Then, because of the college I was attending, we progressed into the EMT-I (intermediate) level before entering into the EMT-P (paramedic) level. Total school time could be as short as 18 to 24 months, but additional classes to generate the double associates degrees ended up taking a total of 3 years.

These courses include pharmacology, pathophysiology, advanced patient care for special populations (lol, old people and kids), as well as courses that provide certificate training such as ACLS, PALS, and ITLS.

As the U.S. Army transitions its other ancillary medical services into more formal establishments it also has to have equal skills for its staff. This has also yielded some interesting issues on its own. Plans exist to turn 68WF's into warrant officers.

What I meant to say earlier about reciprocity was that I never had to take a Virginia EMT test because the National Registry Test superceeded it and the state has an agreement to authorize any NREMT card carrying EMT, Virginia EMT status upon request. Same happened for my NREMT-P paperwork.

The biggest issue facing EMT's nationally and internationally is the title can mean almost nothing in the states when Joe-Bob McCobb attended a couple of weekends of school and now wears the dark blue and white shirt of the volunteer fire rescue and just drives "da bus" real fast, while Jimbo Schmuckateli endured nearly 12 months of school to obtain his NREMT. In fact, both will be paid about the same and both will /for sure/ make the same amount of money.

Which is very little.

Anyways, the biggest issue I take with the EMT world isn't the title issue. It isn't the continuing education war. It isn't the pay. It's actually the same issue we have to contend with in any social circle: douche baggery.

The number of insufferable know-it-all, chump-stumpers, and just one-uppers that dominate this career are really disheartening. They'll exist in any organization and they will armchair general and monday morning quarterback every single call and patient you handle.

Fact is, humans are pretty resillient and all the education in the world can only give you so many tools before you'll get to an equation where there simply aren't going to be definitive solutions outside of "get this guy from here to the surgical table ten minutes ago" and that's just how it is.

For every absurd thing I've seen work I've seen a hundred other bad ideas cost easily salvaged patients their lives.
