So Trump has promised some sweeping changes to the military:

>Increase active army to 540K
>Increase USMC to 36 infantry battalions
>350 naval ships
>1200 fighter jets

As well as increased missile and cyber defense.

Is this necessary? Is this good? What is lacking is:
>revamping aged and worn logistics vehicles/aircraft
>addressing our ICBM fleet
>bombers and CAS
>C2 capes (AWACS, etc)
>new rifles and body armor for infantry
>Stryker meant to be interim vehicle, what replaces it?
>M1 and M2 replacements
>upgraded artillery
>>
Absolutely.

Si vis pacem, para bellum.
>>
I love Trump winning but oh jeez I wish he planned on working on your second list instead of the first.
>>
Well, if we are going to retract spending from NATO we might as well reinvest it in our own military.
>>
>>31984389
I agree. The naval ships and fighter jets perhaps because they take a long time to make. However swelling the USMC and Army simply takes a draft. Grunts can be trained in no time.
>>
>>31984398
What I wish we had:
>HALT C-17 production, we have too many already per the USAF but Congress forces it
>RETIRE the A-10 and F-15C as the F-35 comes into active units
>RETIRE the F-16 as the F-35 comes even more into active units, this will be a while
>RETIRE the B-52
>Keep army/marine size same or even shift more to reserves
>Keep naval fleet size same but continue to swap out old ships for new
>CLOSE unneeded overseas bases
>END all the bullshit SHARP/SAPR, EO, suicide prevention, and other "training" that wastes useful training manhours
>If women are going to be in the military they have to have an IUD for the duration of their contract, and pregnancy is grounds for an other than honorable dismissal

>Refurb ICBM assets
>Fund new AF stealth strike bomber
>Super Tucano or Super Bronco
>New AWACS, the South Koreans have a nice one with new engines and AESA radar that would be a nice upgrade
>Replace our super-old ground radar units
>New ground-based anti-air missiles, both MANPADS and vehicle-based, to match Russian designs
>Much more cyber focus
>Replace legacy satellites
>Refurb U-2 or make the Global Hawk not suck
>Major program to lighten infantry load as much as possible with better lightweight+strong materials
>>
>>31984467
>HALT C-17 production, we have too many already per the USAF but Congress forces it
Logistics is more important than ever. Besides, C-17 production is over. Besides that though, the US logistics is what wins the wars.

>RETIRE the A-10 and F-15C as the F-35 comes into active units
But the F-35 was never meant to replace the F-15C.

>RETIRE the F-16 as the F-35 comes even more into active units, this will be a while
F-35 wasn't meant to replace all F-16s either. They are useful as low cost fighters.

>RETIRE the B-52
Without a replacement?

>Keep army/marine size same or even shift more to reserves
Agree/disagree. Shift more to mobility forces (Marines/Airborne).

>CLOSE unneeded overseas bases
They keep doing this through BRAC. Most are needed now

>END all the bullshit SHARP/SAPR, EO,
Maybe

>suicide prevention,
No

>If women are going to be in the military they have to have an IUD for the duration of their contract, and pregnancy is grounds for an other than honorable dismissal
If you do this, then you have to give the same to males who knock up a chick and get issue a "family".

>Refurb ICBM assets
Agreed

>Fund new AF stealth strike bomber
Agreed

>Super Tucano or Super Bronco
LOL what? Retire the A-10 and purchase something without 1/8 of the capability at virtually the same cost to maintain?

>New AWACS, the South Koreans have a nice one with new engines and AESA radar that would be a nice upgrade
Agreed

>Replace our super-old ground radar units
What?

>New ground-based anti-air missiles, both MANPADS and vehicle-based, to match Russian designs
Unnecessary with a competent Air Force

>Much more cyber focus
Agreed

>Refurb U-2 or make the Global Hawk not suck
Global Hawk not suck

>Major program to lighten infantry load as much as possible with better lightweight+strong materials
Agree to an extent. The price would be the deciding factor.

Oh god this pic
>pssht, nothing personal, kid

I wish Trump will allow the armed forces to work on the human ressources more than on the weapons or logistics...

From what I read on /k/ the main problem with the US armed forces now is cultural. PC bullshit, lack of dedication, blocked carrers for bs reasons, etc.

This is particularly relevant for the air forces considering the lack of pilots who, because they're fed up with the bs their command pushes down their throat, tend to not be as involved personnally than their forefathers, most of them feeling like they're in an office with their colleagues more than among a group of fellow pilots. This is a very dangerous path, because in this line of job, where death can happen, you need to know who you are working with, how they react, how they think, and this can only be achieved through mutual knowledge. If these people never spend any amount of time together but rather just "keep it professional", it does not work and only gives you guys unable to adapt to eachother, and thus, to the ennemy once they're in the air.

This lack of comradeship is what kills armies more surely than the weapons of the ennemy.

Trumps military plan - let Russia take over. Dude's a puppet, unless Pence doesn't reign in on him. PENCE 2016-2020
>>
>>31984467
How's the Israeli Gulfstream AWACS/AEW aircraft ?
>>
>>31984377
>increase USMC
Literally the opposite of what needs to happen.
>>
>>31984377
>new rifles and body armor for infantry
Just about the last thing on anyones mind, and about the least effective thing you could do. As long as it's good enough to not fuck moral, the basic grunts combat gear is less of a concern to the brass then anything else in war time.
>>
>>31984467
>retire the A-10
The army wants this sooo bad, so they can buy them up from the chair force, as they are extremely effective.
>retire the F-15
The most effective multirol plane ever to exist/the only air assests we have protecting the west coast.
Aside from what a gigantic failure the F-35 is, it ain't habbening.

so glad he isn't going to retire the F-35.

Did he realize at some point it really is Russian propaganda against the F-35?
>>
>>31984715
Our boys need new rifles and armor.

I suggest a new americanized AK.
>>
>>31984784
>I suggest a new americanized AK.

But there really are advantages to using an AR-15 type rifle.
>>
>>31984787
Most current M16/M4 are fucking old, and can be replaced by AK.
>>
>>31984784
An "Americanized AK" is fucking retarded.
To the other point, im not saying they don't, im just saying it's realistically about the least concern, and is definitely the least concern to military brass, logistics will trump it, to the brass, even the logistics of latrines is more important than a grunts weapon and armor.
>>
>>31984780

It wasn't Russian propaganda that made Lockmart steal gorillions of dollars for a subpar project that's not even needed.
>>
>>31984810
An americanized AK is AK made in America, it's really not that far fetch.

Just for morale purpose, having an AK as the rifle and new armor are gonna make the infantries chin up at least.

You're right. It was FRENCH propaganda.

>>31984818
Have you not heard about the AR-18? But a new rifle is pointless right now, because "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
>>
>>31984846
An AR15 is old by now, and it's still getting memed as unreliable.

I think a new rifle with reputation like AK can bring morales up.
>>
>>31984853
We're still not gonna get Kalashnikov designs in the fucking US armed forces.
>>
>>31984818
How did you get this retarded thought process into your head?
1. AKs have been entirely made in america for some time, they are generally the shittiest ones on the market.
2. What makes you think AKs will improve moral? Spoilers, it wont.
3. The AK platform will never have acceptable accuracy for an american military, while you can argue the level of accuracy needed is less then the brass requires, it doesn't change the fact that the brass wont change it's accuracy standards, and an AK will never live up to those standards.
4. yes, AKs malfunction also, they aren't magical, any gun accurate enough for the military with have tight tolerances, which will lead to malfunctions with smaller obstructions, but like i said, an AK will still jam, especially in a combat environment.
5. The military will probably not change the caliber it is using or mags for quite some time, since the time, money, and manpower to swap all that out is insane.
>>
>>31984864
But the troops like Kalashnikov, no?

The communist taint should be over by the AK74M, made by capitalist Russia, not the USSR.
>>
>>31984508
>If you do this, then you have to give the same to males who knock up a chick and get issue a "family".
Males having a family doesn't make them nondeployable. Females getting pregnant does.
>>
>>31984799
What? No.

The miniscule advantages of changing to an AK are completely outweighed by how retarded this would be from a logistics perspective. And if accuracy matters the AK is dogshit compared to a decent M4A1.

Logistics win wars.
>>
We could sell some of our carriers to Japan and South Korea to raise money for Trump class aircraft carriers. Make them 250,000 tons displacement, large enough to land a bomber, have 2 runways with the island in the middle. Have them run on thorium breeder reactors.
>>
>>31984508
>What?
Our ground radars are old, like late 1970s and mid 1980s old for a lot of them.

>Unnecessary with a competent Air Force
Necessary for both being able to deny airspace without engaging directly, for persistent denial of airspace for ground units in a pitched war, for easy countering of drone swarms (future expected attack method), and if we go vs China where they will have a lot of good planes and IADS to throw at us. Don't leave holes in our capabilities.
>Global Hawk not suck
YES IT DOES. They wanted to have it replace the U-2 entirely by now, but it blows. Hard. The U-2 is flying as much as ever because it has capabilities the GH can't match.
>>
>>31984885
You can sell the old M16/AK to civie market and buy new AK.

>And if accuracy matters the AK is dogshit compared to a decent M4A1.
AK74 isn't really all that inaccurate. It's also cheaper.
>>
>>31984724
>as they are extremely effective.
No. B-1s are getting all the kills in Afghanistan, followed by helos and F-16s, there was a famous thread about this. A-10s a shit.
>F-15
>multirole
He said F-15C, not F-15E. Have the F-35 and F-22 protect the west coast, they are far more capable aircraft than the Charlies.
>>
>>31984885
>>31984875

>logistics wins wars
This.

As long as every grunt has a rifle, no one in the upper levels cares what rifle it is, beyond a moral issue(say moral would be fucked if they were still running 1903s to everyone), but beyond that, no fucks given.
Why do you think mop suits and gas masks are issued? It's just a moral boost, 90% would die of chem exposure even if there were no problems with it, it just keeps them alive long enough to complete a mission, and keeps the masses from bitching about a chem attack.
>>
>>31984875
How fucked are you to think that our military would gladly switch over to a foreign designed rifle used by a nation that used to be an enemy to the western world for almost the entire 20th century? A HK-33 has a better chance to be the new rifle than Kalashnikov based rifles. Also >>31984873, >>31984715, >>31984810, and >>31984885 knows a thing or two here as well.
>>
>>31984921
MORALE

Jeez you dipshi, come on dipshi get it right so you aren't a dipshi anymore.
>>
>>31984913
>F-22 and F-35 protect the west coast
They can't even get them built retard. Once they are all manufactured, then it becomes a possibility, and then the merits of doing so can be discussed, bit with all the shit happening with them it will never be a reality.
>>
>>31984908
This is low quality bait at this point.
