I don't know much about Mannlichers, was this originally a Stutzen?

I guess I'll ask here too, what kind of .303 do you guys feed your Enfields? I know Wolf is shit but now I am also hearing that PPU isn't too good either?

Dude, ppu is literally gods gift to milsurp. I'm kinda sorta joking but they're really the best you can get without paying $1.50 a round for super boutique hunting ammunition

>>

That's good to hear, I'd probably go with PPU regardless just because of the price. Can't wait to take my MkIII to the range for the first time, unfortunately nobody stocks .303 locally so I have to wait for ammo now
>>
>>31977402
PPU is fine, I use their brass exclusively. For bullets I usually use theirs too but every so often I'll find another source that's on sale.

Any suggestions for a milsurp pistol? Ideally something with easily-obtained ammo. I've been thinking about a P38, but I wasn't sure if there was anything else I should be looking at.
>>
>>31978783
HI power.

P38 magazime release is kinda wonky.
>>
So I recently got a Yugo mauser, and it seems to have some pitting in the bore. The spiral is clean and clear, but the deeper "grooves" seem to have small dots littered along them. There's nothing extreme like big holes or the like though.

Is this not much to worry about, or should I be concerned?

I haven't tested it yet. I just got through cleaning, and I wanted to be sure it was safe to fire first.
>>
>>31978956
Yeah, it's safe. A little pitting in the grooves isn't anything to be concerned about as far as safety.
>>
>>31978823
I don't mind a heel release, really. My main concern with a Hi-Power is the mag capacity. Unfortunately, I live in CA and can't have a mag over 10 rounds. I know I could get some limited-capacity mags, but somehow it kind of defeats the purpose of a double-stack. If I were to look for one, what's a fair price? Also, should I try for a factory-new or a milsurp?
>>
>>31978984

Good to hear. It's only near the muzzle too; the receiver end is absolutely flawless. It also hasn't been rebored, and the muzzle has no signs of wear at all (it also passes the usual "bullet doesn't fit in the muzzle" test for mausers).

Ideal price for a Yugo mauser (M48 or M24/47) is around $300 for one in good condition. You should be checking with local gunshops that are known to stock milsurp, along with occasionally checking big names like Cabela's. Cabela often is a complete ripoff, but they can occasionally have good deals on Yugo's and nuggets. The Cabela's near me had a couple of m24/47's in stock last week for $310, and they were in basically pristine condition.

You can also check oddball locations like pawn shops, but they are really hit or miss in terms of stock, quality, and price.

I have a question with the Krag.

I know the big "upshot" of it when it was adopted was the soldier could just open the right trap and top off the gun at any time, but how did they soldier carry their ammo? In a big box of loose rounds?
>>
I picked up a westinghouse 1915t m91 garbage rod for $80, purely as something I can throw corrosive ammo in. Its missing the top part of the stock, the bolt is shit, the ''''bore'''' is more a spotted tube with lines every once in a while.

They were; pic related was the last Mauser prototype in contention against the Krag-Jorgensen in the 1892 Army trials.

US Army Ordnance board are perpetual fudds; they wanted a rimmed cartridge –which the Krag fed better than the Mauser–and they wanted it to be fed individual rounds with the magazine cutoff holding the 5 rounds as an emergency rapid-fire reserve. They weren't big on rate-of-fire.

You have to understand their mindset. The wars these guns were meant to fight were against the Indians and units maybe hundreds of miles from the nearest train station. There were no trucks or airplanes and the roads were usually pretty bad. To have a unit resupplied takes time. Having your soldiers conserve ammunition is a plus in these situations.

Wolf apparently uses .308" diameter bullets in their .303. So basically when you buy Wolf .303 slavic Jews are rubbing thier hands and snickering because they've just sold you ammo that they knew wouldn't even work properly. They make it in full knowledge that it's technically wrong and out of spec, but do it anyway because profits.

The action is not very strong and they were made as blackpowder guns and then hastily sleeved for emergency service in WW1.

best bet is to just reload 6.5 with blackpower.

If you buy a Hi Power, it will probably become your favorite handgun. It did for me.

This is where I got mine, they might come back in stock. There's lots of surplus ones on gunbroker right now if they dont. $450-ish is a good price for one if its used milsurp/police trade in. If new they tend to run around $900-1000. There's also some surplus Hungarian FEG clones floating around, and from what I hear they're almost part compatible (magazines and slides supposedly are interchangeable), but I dont own one so I can't say for sure. The FEG's run about $250-300. There's a bunch on classic and on buds.

WOW that fucking sucks cock. You are shit out of luck to un-bubba it. They only made like what? 3000? If you can get it for less then 200 they I would buy it
>>
>>31991357
Possible but difficult. Also they tend to break extractors.
>>
>>31991397
>>31991405

It's not too shit as the receiver and most of the original parts are still there, and most of them looked as if there had been only a few hundred rounds fired through it. I was just thankful that whoever decided to "improve" the rifle didn't try and attach a rail or make there own stock for it. The stock that they added has sort of a nice 70's hunting rifle aesthetic. I just wouldn't want it on a rare mil-surp rifle. I also now see that the person also removed the muzzle break.

Nice, thanks for the info. They always seemed like cool pistols, and the price is a definite bonus. I'll have to keep an eye open.

>>31991125
Fuck, that sucks. I didn't even realize there were different stock variations for the No 1 Mk III. At least you've got another couple of Enfields, I guess. I'll try to get to the December meet, but I won't really know if I can go until closer to the date.
>>
>>31991357
you wont be able to unbubba it, the parts are too rare. but $250 for a 30-06 rifle is a great deal so why not
>>
>>31990602
looks nice overall except that rusty bolt, but that shit looks like super light surface rust...doesnt seem to be any pitting just cosmetic
>>
>>31990592
eh, didnt see that bore pic til just now. it looks like it will be easy to clean, might still shoot decent. for $150 its worth the risk

Found a Carl gustaf M96 for 500€
the stock's a bit fucked but everything else is good, owner says it's all matching and in good shooting condition
What's your take on it guys? if I lower the price would it be a good pick?
http://www.naturabuy.fr/CARL-GUSTAF-MODELE-M96-Calibre-6-55x55--item-3538741.html
nevermind the frogspeak, it's just to show the photos of the rifle
keep in mind in french laws this rifle is free of license and registration, aka "ghost gun" since it's a model made before 1900 so prices tend to be inflated

>straight pull

A /k/ommando sold me a nice shape m95 for 250 ish. It shoots really damn nice, but the straight pull bolt is clunky as fuck. I've never shot a k31, so I'm not sure how to compare it, but the straight pull on the m95 was a novelty that wore off quick once I had to fire it and clean it. Mosin bolts are smoother.

There isn't anything wrong with that stock my Frankish brethren. Just some old scuffs. I think that price is pretty cheap considering you can get them for just a little bit cheaper over here.

Those M95s have a poor reputation for the same reasons Mosins do: they're all refurbs. If you get a non refurb you'll get a much better feeling rifle as they actually cared about how they worked when they were originally put together. During refurb they just cared that it worked.

A K31 is nice and smooth.
>>
>>31996725
I'm portuguese actually, but I am indeed in France
Yeah prices here are godawful for french milsurp, the saying goes that France sold itself out to the Americans, metaphorically and literally, lots of old folks say them MAS 36's were shipped over there for like 50$ a piece ;_;

I think that's partly because when those guns were sold France had more stringent laws on guns with "military calibers" so it was easier to sell them abroad.

I know there are a lot of French collectors that have French guns exported from the US or Switzerland because even paying import and export fees and finding an import/exporter is still cheaper than buying them in France.

Kinda sad, really. Though, I love French guns so I don't complain about our prices! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>
>>31996864
Yeah there was a dumb-ass restriction on military calibers, that's why there were .222 caliber AR15s instead of .223, gladly that's all over and we can get all the calibers we want

I love the looks of them too, have fun with all that cheap milsurp my friend ;)

There were a lot of Berthiers and Lebels rechambered to .348 Winchester too for all the same reason.

>>
>>31997000
>>31997000
yeah and even though they should be unregistered (<1900) they forced them to be registered because there's lots of them are around, same thing for the mausers

I mean, getting them is easy, all you need to do is sign up at a shooting club wait 2 weeks for your license and have it signed by a doctor, but I'd rather have my guns out of a government registry, most people too so that drives up the prices of guns that don't need registration

tl;dr shit sucks yo
