Wait do you need a license for these things? I got mine in last week and I've been scanning around the channels trying to find people to talk to. Sometimes I just turn to a channel and say some words and then switch channels. What happens if you don't have a license? Will they track me down? I talked to some people the other day, they were talking about cars on some channel I can't remember. They seemed nice enough.

Hold the SCAN button for a few seconds and it will start cycling through the available frequencies. When it picks up a signal the green light will come on and it will start recieving automatically. You can also type in a frequency using the number pad but I'm guessing you don't know any local channels yet.
