Why are magnum revolvers so goddamn heavy? The difference in length between 38 spl and 357 mag is only like 0.1 inch, yet ruger SP101's weight, the lightest 357 I found, is twice the weight of colt agent. Like, what the fuck? Why can't I just load a magnum to colt fuckng agent.
gun newb here btw

The heavier the gun the more controllable the recoil. Magnum rounds have alot of felt recoil. It's alot easier to handle if you make the gun heavy
I love being able to dump 5 rounds of really hot .357 mag, quickly, without worrying about breaking my wrists. They are heavier to mitigate recoil.
t. SP101 snub owner
(It's also loud as shit)

so they make it fat as shit so bitch ass pussy fuccbois can shooty shooty without hurting their twig arm wrist? that's like, the stupidest load of horseshit ever.
BIG
BLACK
RIFLES
They have to be made out of stronger materials which also tend to be heavier.

3/10.
I've seen worse. You aren't good tho.

well, smith&wesson make a number of scandium-frame .357magnum models, all of which are MUCH lighter than the sp101
the stainless steel model 60 in pic is just over 21oz vs the nearly 30oz of the sp101

Significantly higher pressure means significantly more steel and thus more weight.

to elaborate,
the propellants used in .38spec cartridges generally dont burn as quickly as those used in magnum cartridges. combine a faster burning powder with a magnum primer and you have the basic components for a magnum cartridge. the small increase in case length of the .357mag might not seem like a lot, but a few grains of propellant can make a huge difference to the pressure created when the round is discharged. because of this, .357mag-chambered guns often have beefier frames & cylinders to compensate for the greater pressures. a super beefy gun isnt necessarily required to fire .357mag, though. smaller guns like the model 60 have been used for decades. if magnum loads are used in a small model 60 constantly, the service life of the gun will be reduced faster than if basic .38spec loads had been used. tldr, mag loads are harder on a gun than standard-pressure loads
Because 357 has more boombang juice
They make a super light 357 and 44, but they straight up hurt to shoot
Made of some SPEHS metal or something
I had my Ruger GP100 4" at the range today after not shooting any guns at all for about 2 months.
I seemed to have turned into a little faggot during my down time, because my palm is actually sore from firing off 150 .357 magnum rounds. It was just regular magtech 157gr semi-jacketed stuff, too.
The hardwood grips definitely don't help, but i was surprised how much recoil i felt after not shooting for such a long time. When I was shooting more often, the gun was really no problem to shoot daily.
My USP 9mm and glock 29 10mm felt like peashooters today.

Yeah that's definitely a thing, I shot about 150 rounds of magnum and the same in .38 with my GP100 in the desert last time I went out and the first few cylinders of magnum I was flinching a little, by the end of the sesh I was dumping cylinders of mag onto the target as quickly as I could with no problem.

A lot of off the shelf .357mag is definitely no slouch, and revolvers always have more felt recoil anyway. That magtech stuff has pretty decent ballistics.
>>31976845
Yeah i was terrible for the first 40 rounds or so today. Shooting like 3 inches high every time. By the end of the day I was much more on target.
That gun makes my 10mm seem so much easier to shoot.
>>31976855
Yeah i really like the magtech for range practice.

D...d... Dugan?
You mean he didn't get MS, he just went back in time and became Hickok?
>>31977261
Look at how tiny that Model 29 is in hickock's gargantuan hands.
I bet his cock is enormous.
>>31977300
That has to be shopped. Or the guy in the middle is like 5' tall.
>>31977342
Hickock and his son are both like 6'7".
But yeah the couple is probably on the shorter side as well.
