After a decade long legal battle with my shitbag extended family, I have finally inherited the only thing my Grandfather left me before his passing.
I don't know have any practical experience with firearms but I have acquired my licence.
I just want some more information about this particular Remington Woodsmaster model 742.
Is this a reliable firearm? Should I take it to a gunsmith and get it looked at? What are your experiences with it?
watch videos on you tube on how to dis assemble it and maybe take it to a gun smith

Those older remingtons are pretty solid and reliable guns. Too bad the company has recently been driven into the shitter.
Also,

I am, but my grandfather wasn't. It was a long legal battle due to that, me being under age, and family contesting the will.
I'm glad to hear this one is solid and reliable though, thanks.

My dad had one in .308 years ago. It didn't like to cycle more than a few rounds with out feeding issues. I don't remember that well exactly now if it was an extraction issue or wanting to double feed. He didn't keep it very long.
Don't let my input bother you though. Google it, Youtube it, clean it, shoot it.

I know one thing you can do with that rifle

Leaf here, you don't need to license anymore just need a PAL for ammunition, best way to test is tie the fucker to a tree tie and string to the trigger and let her rip. Looks in pretty good condition. Nice job on the legal battle, I just got my dad's stuff via the same thing. Also pal meaning possession and acquisition license.

Had one in 30-06 a while back - very handy, beautiful off hand shooter, swung and shot like a shotgun... Rarely had any issues with it

I'd get all the Canadian legality things sorted out, take it into a gunstore/gunsmith near you and have them check it out for saftey.
If it works (99% chance it will), pick up some ammo for it and bring her out to shoot.
Should be fun!
Watch some youtube on first time gun advice and Woodsmaster specific videos.

I'm sorry for your loss, your grandfather was a good man. I used to listen to him jam on the squeezebox from across the road. It's crazy that he never read sheet music. If you need help with your license , go across the street I can try help you out

Yupp, people call em jam o matics, but they have to be cleaned and oiled just right...and they'll go 100s of rounds without a single jam, even on cheap FMJ. Just make sure your mag is good, action spring, and that you oil it super lightly, but thoroughly.

Cityborn manlet buys tool, is shocked that he is allowed to and scared of what the tool can be used for.

This idiot wants to be treated like a child at the age of 20.
I got no words for this.

Design is prone to being very dirty, so it causes issues. But people do tacticool them up. Any 870 stock will work on one just fine, so that leaves you all kinds of options
