So is the Military no longer training recruits on using iron sights?
>>
Men still train with irons
>>
>>31967161
Yes everyone always learns iron sights.
>>
>>31967161
do the muhreens still do bayonet training?
>>
>>31967161
Iron sights are the best sights, because if you can't see shit with them, you can't use a regular sight or scope then. If your vision is poor, then there isn't anything that can be done short of glasses, contacts, or corrective surgery.
>>
>>31967172
Ask yourself first, is _____ practice stupid and outdated? Then yes. The muhreens still do it
>>
>>31967179
This sounds like a nogunz talking. Or a muhreen. You're both preachy and at least a little ignorant
>>
>>31967179
Go for a walk grandpa.
>>
>>31967161
>forest pattern clothing
>desert pattern cover

Why?
>>
>>31967535

Budget cuts, probably.
>>
>>31967535
To identify those in training. This was probably taken at an MOS school
>>
>>31967535
Breaks up the shape of the head with a different color, making it less likely you recognize the silhouette of head and shoulders at a distance.
>>
>>31967535
>operating innawoods
>hills behind you are desert

In Finland everyone learns to use iron sights. Also we don't have money to buy optics.

I graduated osut last may
We qualified with irons before we got ccos
>>
11B

Qualified with a CCO in OSUT 2014.
Didn't use irons once, have never used irons my entire military career.
>>
>>31967179

you is right
>>
>>31969294
That's bullshit. I hope Marines still do.

I was an 0311, we trained with irons. In the fleet you could use acog for requalls. But I've been out a while.
>>
>>31969341

I've used an ACOG since the day I arrived in my unit, almost everyone in my company has one except for drivers and a few unassigned rifles. It's been a pretty cushy life but I'd probably die if my ACOG got damaged because I've never used my BIS.
>>
>>31967161
UK still trains on irons before optics
>>
>>31969341

For boot camp it's all RCOs now.
>>
>>31967161

USMC is not entirety of US military.

That's like saying "what branch of the armee r u in :3 " when you see a sailor getting his fatburger on. Muhreenz train on acog, USAF iron sights, US Army iron sights, USN i have no idea, I hear conflicting shit that some of them never do live fire in boot, but that isn't believable.
>>
>>31969528
When I went through Navy boot, we did live fire for the M9 and I wanna say we fired 3 rounds of buckshot through a Mossberg, and someone held my barrel down because too many shit-for-brains kept shooting the ceiling. Didn't touch an M16 until FMTB, we only did one day of live fire at the range for "familiarization". Didn't qual until 1 year after being attached to a grunt unit, and only because they unit was desperate to fill open slots for the range.
>>
>>31967161
They're too hard for girls to use so no.
>>
>>31967186
hahaha
>>
>>31967604
Uh, no. It's simply to identify trainees.

Why no one decreases the Benis budget is beyond me.
>>
>>31967535
>>31971946
It's actually just that it's raining and they're wearing Goretex jackets and trousers. We don't issue desert pattern rain gear generally. The seasonal uniform in the pic is still deserts but you still wear your woodland raingear in the rain.
>>
Graduated Fort Sill BCT and Fort Sam Houston 68W AIT. Used M16A2 with Irons for rifle quals and blanks for MOUT training. In BCT there were only 8 M4's out of 160 ppl.
>>
>>31972804
8 months ago so yeah the army doesnt care about replacing old shit. we still use digital acu pattern TA 50 gear
>>
>>31967535
What is even happening in this picture? First woman is out of ammo, second woman has finger on the trigger but her dust cover is closed...the fuck?
>>
>>31972639
Thanks for pointing that out. All these retards saying " hurr two types of cammies breaks up the shape of the head hurr" it's fucking raining.
>>
>>31974885
grass week

basically you spend a week just pretending to shoot at a simulated distance target painted onto a barrel in a grass field like a retard.

i just sleep in the prone until one of the coaches gets ballsy enough to bother me then i sleep in my truck
>>
>>31967161
No, Marine recruits do not train in recruit training on iron sights. That and annual quality are done with RCOS exclusively.

>>31967172
Yes, briefly in recruit training and a little more during MCMAP training. I have never been issued a bayonet in the fleet, however.

>>31967179
That's just... wrong. The RCOS is better for a number of reasons. The reticle is visible in low light, better flash sight picture, better picture over longer distances, and quick range estimation. The final part really makes it for me because it's a huge boon when trying to quickly get my gunner on target with rockets.

>>31967186
Fucking. Fact.

>>31967604
Whoever said this? Find them and kill them for being retarded. Those recruits are qualifying on the range in recruit training in the summer. Their seasonal uniform is deserts but since it's raining they were allowed to put on their Gortex top and bottom. USMC Gortex is always woodland MARPAT.

>>31967636
Also kill yourself.

>>31969341
It would be useful if they still did. I trained on the RCO in recruit training but dropped to a poor unit in the fleet so had flip up iron sights until right before I deployed. My gunner had an RCOS thouh so I took his rifle any time I had to give an ADD RACING. Looking back I think having iron sights for so long and using them on ranges I didn't need to a-gun for rockets made me a better shot when I eventual.you got an RCO.

>>31974885
It's probably prequal during range week. Recruits are capable of all sorts of crazy shit.
>>
>>31974953
Tons of autocorrect typos. Blow me.
>>
>>31974953
You are a marine that's deployed, and they didn't issue you a fucking Kabar? Didn't have you train on irons?

What in the fuck!?
>>
>>31969093
your unit is just deemed so useless that nothing is gained by letting you handle optics. Troops that actually matter have enough of them
>>
>>31974971
It's a different time than it was even six years ago, man. A few of us own Kabars and the armory has those Ontario company bayonets but here's no sense in issuing them. An M4 with a bayonet isn't going to make much of a difference.
>>
>>31967161
When I went to boot camp it was iron sights. 2 years later it switched to rcos. Most pogs don't ever train with them. My unit trained with iron sights occasionally. It all depends on your company gunny, who is in charge of training. If he sees fit to train you on iron sights, he will set aside an allotment of rounds from a range instead of magdumping at the end. Battalion gunners might also mandate it.
>>
>>31974994
the 3 is in charge of training. The company funs is just in charge of admin bullshit
>>
>>31974996
Bullshit nigger. I'm not him, but gunny calls the shots. Paper bitches in S3 do the paperwork.
>>
>>31975000
gy calls jack shit but his wife to tell her the company commander is too dumb to be left alone for the weekend
>>
>>31974994
Bulls hit. I had an M16 with flip ups and watched wing faggots prancing around with new M4s and RCOs. When my unit went M4 pure it was all hand-me-downs from pogs.
>>
>>31975014
nobody gets new M4's

all our rifles are rebuilt shit from the army

you have a higher chance of getting a brand fucking new M16 than ever SEEING a new M4
>>
>>31975014
What does that have to do with anything
>>
>>31975014
>>31975018
>Marines arguing about m4s

I want to put baby powder on both of your asses.
>>
>>31974996
S3 has no say in what a company does at a company level training event. They ok the funds for ammo is about all
>>
>>31975018
Fair point. What's hilarious is seeing the H&S faggots with A1s while we all have the A2s and this weak ass burst shit. Line companies should get the A1s because... reasons.
>>
>>31975020
Would you not agree line companies rate a full rifle system before wing units?
>>
>>31975024
Doc pls
>>
>>31975020
I would agree. The top guys in the marines think the m16 is a better system.
>>
>>31975031
FA never works right anyway famalam

because the armorers are lazy fucks
>>
>>31975040
Nah 0311 that's been out for 5 years.

If I was doc I'd crush an IBprofin and rub that on your ass while making you butt chug water for hydration.

M16>m4 in this old grunts opinion (29, old, :(
>>
>>31969294
Second

The Infantry DSs basically sum it up for you like this:
If you're infantry (shit, even POGs now get them) you're rifle is now equipped with an optic as the primary sighting system. They want to set you up for success in knowing how to work with one. If you have leadership at your unit that wants you to learn irons, they might do it, otherwise you're learning that shit on your own.
>>
>>31975075
Unfortunately true. Luckily my company gunny would set up iron sight stages at most ranges we went to.
>>
>>31975075
The idea at first was to be reliable to shoot with out optics because in the early stages they weren't known to be reliable.

These days the technology is proven. It's still a damn shame tho. Like giving a kid a motorcycle before they ride a bicycle.
>>
>>31975052
Those sailors, always putting things in butts.

Active 51. Happy Birthday man.
>>
>>31975106
Our Birthday was Nov. 10th. But 2 days late is acceptable for a Marine.

Steak & Lobster.
>>
>>31975128
Well I wasn't talking to you two days ago!
