This is a good basic explanation but does very little apart from that.

It makes zero mention of Empire or the socialist labour party that dismantled it, Smith was on record for saying "Rhodesians were more British than the British themselves". He was an oldschool Imperial leftover, but a born and bred believer of Rhodes dream for Africa.

I would challenge anyone who claims he was "racist" to read his biography, it's extremely interesting even if Smith himself was not the greatest of writers.

Also bonus point: Smith argues that if the Afrikaner National Party had not come to power in 48' and stopped post-war British migration (similar to what was pouring into Australia at the time), whites would have populated the country 1-2. Instead they introduced Apartheid to protect their Afrikaner heritage against the Anglos/Kaffirs but ended up out populated by coloreds and special K's instead.

He's not bothered, he's not happy and he wants to see money again but frankly he is too busy grafting to survive to seriously care. Add that to the fact the Shona are a pastoral people not prone to violence all protest is limited and easily cowed by the police and armed forces. Only in Matabeleland is there any real opposition but they are a people still haunted by the genocide of 1980-82 to truly resist.

On top of all that their are basically no weapons in the country so revolution is not on the cards, so the Zimbabwean will continue to be lead like the proverbial lamb to the slaughter.

Honestly the only hope to restore that country to a shadow of its former self is separation. An independent Matabeleland could prosper as they are a people willing to work with the whites, Nkomo was always ready to work with Smith but Mugabe stopped any peace settlement which wasn't victory on his terms. If the Matabele people were taught their own proud history and instilled with a sense of a nation they could restore themselves to prosperity, but while Mugabe and the UN exist this will never advance beyond a pipe dream.

I'll give general answers. I don't count Joburg, the DRC or certain fun parts of Nigeria.

My experience has been Africans view whites in one of three ways. Like westerners they have their own preconceptions.

My general approach to doing business was to always retain a position of some power but otherwise be as immersed in local culture as I could. It made me a lot of friends. This post is going to get very long if I try and define everything but there's rich Africans and poor ones. There's a small middle class but generally it's one or the other. In zambia for example a rich zambian is pretty much a westerner.

The poorer ones see whites as aloof, naive, a source of gibs, or likely to shout at them.

I picked up bits of local languages pretty fast and pretended to know about football (the real kind) so it was a very friendly experience for me.

Business speaking you need to micromanage everything and keep a tight hand on a deal.

This is different if you're a white woman alone at night. Though in saying that as a large white guy I'd still not like to wander round the CBD at night either. Nor would I like to do this in Detroit, bits of London or Shanghai.

I live up in Manchester where it's a melting pot of everyone, my local butchers is a Zimbabwean one so I frequent that and chat with the owner and his family and there is the occasional communal braii which brings the whites out.

I'd love to set up down in Africa, but I just worry too much at the moment about the political situation. Zim is out of the question, South Africa is getting lairy and Zam is just starting to slide backwards to the KK years and I'm not sure if financially I can risk losing so much if they do go a bit loopy there.

Mozambique is the other option but RENAMO are kicking off again, and other than that there isn't good farming country so I'm going to hedge my bets and stay in Britain for now.
