Hi /k/

Me and my bf saved up some money and need a gun for the race war

I'm torn between two guns

Tikka T3 300 WM
and
Standard M1A

I like the bolt action and that calibre

He wants semi auto

We need a gun I can teach him to shoot on easily, which I guess is an M1 but maintenance seems easier and easier to teach on the tikka
>>
>>31964686

>learning to shoot
>on 7.62

Well he's going to flinch fucking hard forever.

At least rent a .22 to get him accustomed to shooting something without the distraction of a fuckhueg bang and recoil.
>>
Breasts?

Why not start with an ar with a 22 conversion kit for teaching?

Rarely is a gun hard to maintain, ars inclided

I gueso. Idk he wants to buy a gun tomorrow and I just wanna borrow my dad's and go to the range, but he's rushing because he watches too much alex jones

>>31964723
i mean, yea, but it's kiiiiiinda gonna be the first gun that's not my dad's either and i don't wanna get a new caliber in a year

delivered
>>
>>31964762

Semi auto is the most practical for the doomsday scenario your bf has in mind. That being said he sounds like a complete moron trying to buy what's sort of an "expert's" weapon as his very first. Honestly, a mid-range basic bitch AR is a way better place to begin and decide if he wants something bigger or smaller, and is more than sufficient for Alex Jones' wettest dreams.

Also nice tits.
>>
>>31964762
Damn femanon qt3.14
>>

ALSO 762 GET
>>
>>31964686

Pistol.

You're not going to be walking around with a rifle under normal circumstances. It makes you a target for the enemy and law enforcement.

Get a pistol and train with it. Carry it concealed.

>>31964762
nice mouth.

If you don't have a gun yet, I suggest start with something that can operate at short to mid ranges, and definitely something that can fire fast and holds a decent ammount of ammo.

High cap 9mm, just about any carbine, small rifles in 5.56 or 5.45, m1a is fine, shotguns that hold 6+ inna tube, especially a saiga if you can get your hands on one.
>>
>>31964686
>>31964762
Train him on a bolt 223. It's what I use for beginners since 22lr is a pain to get in bulk anymore.
>no recoil
>easy to buy a case of ammo
>still kills out to 400 yards
>can use both 223 and 556
From there you can go to an AR which shares the ammo and you can doctor up to whatever setup you want. Hell, you can have his and hers lowers and share uppers.

You can get a Savage 223 tomorrow for about 400 with scope depending on your area, since deer season is approaching and sales should be going on.

Also, how about breasts and a good tummy shot?
>>
>>31964869
Is 22 really hard to get.

Houston here and it has been available for a year and cheap.

Basic AR with a conversion kit for 22 darling.

And a cheap pistol. I bought a dozen 92s. Theyre still sub 300 i think
>>
>>31964891
I can get it, just not in cheap bulk. It's a dime a round and not worth the time to reload. 223 varies, but is piss cheap to reload for and more accurate at range than 22lr.
>>
>>31964792
Yea, and I know, he's a dummy
I have a buncha other guns at my disposal too tho
I want a gun for us (and maybe for me a little too)
Im pretty sure there's a 410 around here even
But we have 2 rem 1000 rem 700 some italian 35 lever action 356 and some more handguns i forget

>>31964802
:3

>>31964810
We're gonna get a handgun later, probably 9mm

>>31964846
Not in the discord yo

>>31964856
rem 1000 shoots fast

>>31964869
actually good advice
i wouldnt hate a savage 223
also i dont have any of those for a blue board

>>31964891
im houston too
idk ars are idk i dont really want an ar
but yea we were gonna get a 92 or a ppq eventually
>>
>>31964686
>Me and my bf saved up some money and need a gun for the race war
Use it as a down payment on a house.
>>
>>31964957
im not buying a fucking trg
>>
>>31964926
Also, consider a bolt 308 along with the 223.
>medium recoil
>easy to get a case of ammo
>easy to reload
>will kill most anything in North America
>can be loaded up or down, from 110 to 175 accurately (you can go up to 210 but don't expect range)
And from there you can move into an AR-10. While you don't get the coolness of a M1A, you do get standard interchangeable parts, customization without ruining value, more accuracy potential for less money, and the ability to change calibers (my personal 308 parent case caliber is 243 for coyotes to deer and long range).

Also, what do you have that's blue board?
>>
>>31964998
i mean.....i might as well get the tikka t3

I like 308s but i kinda want a win mag
and i can always throw 308 in it .... like...

And i dont really have a good reason why, i just dont like my shoulder and i think it's a cool cart

:/

>kigu
>>
Get bolt gun annon
>>
>>31965019
Stop posting you fucking moron.
>>
>>31965019
If you're concerned about the "race war" and want a 300wm, then consider
>price of ammo
>availability of ammo
>how many shots before your shoulder gives?
^the above can be fixed with a muzzle brake and hydraulic dampener

And if it's just because you want to fling a heavy 30cal bullet, then look into the 30-378 Weatherby Mag. It'll fling a 175gr Sierra Matchking at 3500fps and a 208gr A-max around 3100fps.
>>
>>31965069
but then i just throw 308 in it right?

it shouldnt hurt it, its less pressure
>>
I have a Tikka T3 Lite in 8x57IS.
Without a better recoil pad (now included in the new version I heard?) the recoil is absolutely brutal because of the light weight of the rifle. After ten rounds your shoulder will look like a blue, yellow, red mess on the next day.
With a silencer and limbsaver its down to comfy levels but factor that in, especially since 300WM will probably be even more powerful.
>>
>>31965104
i figured id need a dampener and a muzzle brake too and i was gonna get the varmint just for the extra weight

how do you like it overall tho?
>>
>>31965098
No, you don't just do that

new shooter here

this has me a little worried, I've shot shotguns before but never anything else

I recently purchased an FAL as my first gun, how fucked am I? I've heard stories of people trying really hard to break flinching habits and having trouble with it, I don't want that.
>>
>>31965117
Its nice.
Good, reliable rifle. Smooth shooting. I honestly see no problem with it.
Iron sights would be nice but a quality glass survives anything but a drop from the fifth floor anyways.
>>
OP, both choices are a bit... off.
Do you live in California? Asking because M1A is popular in states with assault weapon laws. It does affect your options.

Anyway AR15s are cheaper and more widely available than ever. I bet your BF read Max Brooks and assumes they're too flimsy and unreliable for combat but that's a meme. A decent 700$ AR will work great if taken care of or at very least sprayed with CLP every now and then. Parts and ammunition cost and availability is great too and 5.56 is plenty powerful.

Now .308 is a neat upgrade, but consider that you're spending double the money on the gun and double for ammo, along with greater recoil and carried weight. The M1A is pretty good, but it does come with downsides. All battle rifles do.
If you want an M1A in 5.56 or you live in a state where AR-15s are restricted consider a Ruger Mini-14. It does have downsides, namely proprietary magazines, higher NIB cost (they can be had dirt cheap used) Older pre-2007 models suffer accuracy problems as well, but overall they do work.

As for Tikka. Great rifles, but why .300? Stick to .308, it'll make your life easier.

Also get some decent pistols. At least one each. Used police trade-in 3rd gen Glocks are common, cheap and last a long-ass time. The .40S&W models tend to be even cheaper. Note that .40S&W kinda sucks, but Glocks in that caliber can be converted to 9mm with the use of a drop-in barrel which usually costs $500 or so.

Also Mossberg Maverick 88s cost $200 new and make great loaner guns.
For the cost of one M1A you can get an AR-15 or Mini-14, a Maverick 88 and two Glocks.
>>
>>31965019
Someone post picture again.
>>
Typo, Glock conversion barrels run about $100, not $500. That's what a mod. 19 costs brand new. A PD trade in mod. 22 or 23 costs 300-400.
>>
>>31964686
you're a faggot because you want a bolt action in a race war

your bf however, sounds like a pretty cool dude
>>
>>31964686
Why on earth would you not get an AR-15/AKM/AK-74/AR-10/FAL/G3 instead of either of those?

I mean I guess you could fuck some shit up with a bolt action pretending to be the beltway snipers, but come on. The semi-auto would do just as fine in that role, especially if it's an AR-15/AR-10 or G3/PTR.
>>
Ar15. Buy the 22lr bolt coversion and learn on that then move up to 223
>>
>>31964762
Ruger American in 5.56, a good bolt rifle will last you forever, and 5.56 is better to get started with than a full size cartridge.
Nice tits btw, not too big or small, just right.
>>
>>31965479
Buy some snap caps and mix them into your magazines on the range. Just focus on your sight picture and a smooth steady trigger pull and you will be fine.
Buy a slip on recoil pad if you're a faggot like me and don't want a sore spot after 200 rounds
>n-no I only need it f-for the length of p-pull guys, I-I swear!
>>
>>31964762
Any reason in particular you aren't buying an AR-15?

.308 is a great round, but humans are not big game and since you said race war I assume you would be slotting floppies like Tyrone at ranges no greater than 300 metres.

>>31964686

AR-10

>lighter than an M1A
>7.62 stronk
>rails for days young nigga
>>
>>31966862
Larger round makes a heavier rifle more desirable due to inertia taking up more recoil.
>>
>>31966773
>>31966842
thanks guys

I've only shot 10-guage, I don't know if that has more or less recoil than 12
>>
>>31966893

but you dont want to carry around a heavy rifle

id rther have a lighter rifle i can carry for a further distance than a heavier rifle

also the AR-10 recoils into the stock and into the shoulder
>>
>>31966911
10 gauge is beefier than a 12, you will be pleasantly surprised at the comparatively lower recoil.
>>
>>31966947
I thought it was a DMR/Sniper type rifle they were looking at, so they wouldn't be doing a lot of moving on such a platform.
>>
>>31966965
cool, that cleans up my concerns nicely

*cough* AK *cough*

But in all seriousness the tikka and the M1A are two very different guns
>Bolt vs. Semi
>.300 WM vs. .308

The M1A is a bit heavy but is a fine gun but probbably won't be quite as precise or hard hitting, however unless extreme precision is your goal it should suffice, I would suggest getting both since the tikka isn't too expensive, and/or going with a t3 in .308 + M1A for ammunition compatability.

And although you didn't ask for alternatives a DPMS AR-10 since it's far more accurate, lightweight and reliable.

Cheers

The fuck? No, you absolutely cannot do that. .300 win mag is a belted magnum cartridge. The extractor won't even grip the rim of a .308. I just tried it. Not to mention the danger of loading a much smaller cartridge into a .300wm chamber. Why the fuck do you even want .300wm anyway? .308 is just fine for anything up to and including long range shooting. .300 wm does the same shit but with more recoil and twice the cost.
