Can't decide.
Please help.
>>
>>31961692
10.5 way over gassed unless Crane/LMT spec gas port. Barrels with aforementioned gas port size aren't exactly common.

11.5 masterrace
>>
>>31961765
Not helpful but it's got the carbine length gas tube, have had no issues.
>>
>>31961692
Remember, 5.56 was designed to be fired from a 20 inch barrel. Go too short and you'll neuter the round.
>>
>>31961779
Yes, 10.5" is pretty much the absolute minimum, 11.5" probably would perform better but I wanted a pistol so whatever man.

I already have the gun.
It's a cheap build.

Do I get a compensater for quick shooting and being a dick or a muzzle cone for in case I ever actually try to do home defense with it?

Seriously asking, can't decide. Does anyone have experience with them?

I have a select fire galil with a 7.7" barrel with a break. Even when you double up on ear pro you end up with a headache after a mag or two at an indoor range.
>>
ive had both MDs on my 10.5" pistol, the OP picture sums it up pretty well. it just depends on what youd like to do.
i'd get the KAK can first, its only $30 so you can change it easily without a larger initial investment

I would go with the pig or a linear compensator amigo. The muzzle blast from that pistol, even at a range is going to be absolutely massive and not fun to shoot more than a few rounds at a time. My best friend as a surefire brake on his and it's fucking insane how loud it is. Pretty much have to double up on earpro if you're going to shoot it more than a few times.

10.5" 223? lol have fun with crazy muzzle blast and 700ft/lbs muzzle energy.

I get near twice the energy from my 10" 300blk with 150gr bullets. chrono's at 1925fps avg, 1,234ft/lbs ME.

Or can go subsonic and throw a can on it. a 245gr 30 cal bullet going 1075fps/ 629ft/lbs ME.
>>
>>31962664
300 blk is a great round for short barrels. However I personally stick with 10.3 in 5.56 as it's my issue rifle as well. Skills transfer right over. But I agree 300 blk is a better option for a short barrel.
>>
>>31962644
That linear comp looks sweet.
I've got a couple hundred rounds through it with an A2 birdcage whatever on it. My earpro is fine but the woman in the lane next to me cussed me out behind my back and left.
It's kind of a rude range gun, after getting it sighted in, I only shoot it to fuck with the people next to me if I think they need to be "impressed" but then I don't want to use it for HD and go death myself either. So that's the problem.

I'm going here in the morning:
http://www.aimsurplus.com/catalog.aspx?groupid=579&name=Muzzle+Devices

and basically this one
http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XGTCONEFHSLIM556&name=GUNTEC+USA+AR-15+Micro+Slim+Flash+Can&groupid=7493

Is $29 and looking like a winner. Open to suggestions though.

>>31962664
That's nice.
This isn't my only AR and I like the commonality it has with those.

Alternatively, Troy Industries makes their version called the Claymore if you want spikes and stuff on your muzzle device.

i'm also looking into doing a 10.5 Ar pistol build in .300 blk but i have no clue on where to start out at any tips.
>>
>>31961810
why not both? get one of those muzzle devices that can accept a blast shield

damage industries has a cheapo muzzle brake and shield that are $14 each if you don't want to pay for stuff like surefire, lantac, griffin, etc
>>
>>31961692
how come i only see the extreme ends of the spectrum - super loud muzzle brake or noise-redirecting comp

why arent people shooting with just the normal ar flash hider?
>>
Some people want recoil control over noise canceling. I want both.
That being said, I just picked up a stripped lower and am thinking of barrel length/gas tube length combos. What should I aim for in all around use?
16" and carbine?
Midlength?
Rifle"
When is rifle length gas ok?

there's literally no benefit to a heavy barrel on an "all around use" rifle

>>
Anyone ever use Strela brakes and flash-hiders from Ukraine? They look pretty cool and seem very effective. I'm in the same boat as other people, though, in trying to decide if I want a brake or hider. Recoil is low anyway, but the gun does bounce around so it'd be nice to get rid of that. On the other hand, reducing noise and flash would be good to have too, in case it actually becomes a fighting gun.
>>
>>31961692
New Lantac bdm looks cool
>>
I got this thing for my 10" 300 blk from Amazon... It doesn't look like they sell them anymore... The break part still makes a lot of noise it just doesn't get as concussive.
>>
>>31961692
You really need a suppressor with a barrel that short.

You're only shooting 5.56 like damn niga do you really need to compensate for that
>>
pistol only funs here. what exactly does a muzzle break, noise compensator thing, or flash hider do? i assume a flash hider reduces muzzles flash but how and why are these important for a rifle?
>>
>>31966409
unburnt powder being blasted out the front of the gun, it makes a fireball that can reduce night vision early morning or evening, if you're outdoors.

It's quite distracting all other times of day.
>>
>>31966409
>flash hiders hide the flash

>compensators vent the gas upward to compensate muzzle rise
but leave horizontal movement untouched

>brakes brake gases sideways to prevent any muzzle movement
loud as fuck but eliminates nearly all recoil in a 5.56

>supressors supress
and do a little bit of everything else, too
>>
>>31962664
Distance/(force)(time)???
I don't think that's energy, my dude
>>
>>31966486
>>31966450
ty friends.

what about this thing though>>31962644
is it just to vent the unburnt powder/flash directly in your line of fire? seems pretty neat and the better way to go without getting a suppressor. dont ARs have pretty light recoil anyway?

I have a silencerco saker with the "MAAD" system QD flash suppressor. Twist on, twist off the silencer, it is pretty neato.
Hilariously, silencerco makes a "loudner" muzzle brake that uses the same QD system:
https://www.store.silencerco.com/collections/silencer-accessories/products/maad-brake?variant=893906685
This makes shooting my AR pistol hilariously loud. It is fun to be able to swap between super quiet, just the flash suppressor (loud) and then slap on the muzzle brake and have ultra-loud.
>>
>>31966552
Anything that vents forward like that is going to make some heavier backpressure and possible overgassing, which you might want for certain situations.
>>
>>31967015
can it cause feeding isuees or just additional recoil
>>
>>31966486
Well, good muzzle brakes don't just vent to the sides, but angled rearward to act as a recoil counterforce.

How much that is necessary on a 5.56 rifle is debateable.
>>
>>31961692
If people have a problem with guns going boom at a gun range then they have no business being at a gun range. Get yourself a VG6 Epsilon and say FU to recoil forever.

>>31962073
I shoot my M92 at indoor ranges
I double up my ear pro with plugs and muffs
>>
>>31967831

theres a difference between regular gunshots and having all the gas and noise directed towards the people beside you. its basically like looking someone right in the face and belching at them a foot away.
>>
>>31967917

What idiotic logic. If you're in a confined space firing rifles at people, you're not going to even notice concussion from a brake. At least now your memepistol looks even dumber.
>>
>>31967960
So be considerate and move a few lanes down? Or use a range with stalls? We're not talking about 50 BMG here
>>
>>31967985
Stop you're hurting my feelings.
>>
>>31961810
>>31962073
Brakes/comps aren't necessarily louder to the shooter but they're way louder next to the shooter

I say get a miculek comp for $40 (as good as the best expensive ones pretty much and relatively cheap) and an a2 flash hider for $1

Can switch between them and you invest little. You can always spend more later and get a different flash hider or levang style linear comp if you were really dissatisfied
>>
>>31961692
Comp. Fuck everyone else at the range, everyone is there for the same damn reason.

>>31967100

Correct. One side effect of Linear comps is a slight increase in horizontal recoil back into your shoulder. It's not massive, but it is noticeable compared to a pure brake. It forces the fire and gas down range so you get a sort of "gout" of flame rather than just a straight flash.
>>
>>31966585
Goddam, I thought just the surefire was loud. I can't even begin to imagine how much louder that could be. Probably makes neat fireballs I'd imagine?

>>
>>31970970
a 10.3" AR is slightly louder than a 16" AR with a muzzle brake
i.e., loud enough to potentially cause permanent hearing damage after a long day at the range even if you double up on earpro
