>True. It all depends on the energy of the round dude. It CAN happen, but doesn't always.

>True. Why would that be false?
>False.

Legitimate question, I've always heard 5.56 was designed to maim in order to incapacitate the guy that got shot and another guy who has to help him. If this is not the case, what was it designed for? I'd genuinely like to know because it looks like I've been lied to.

To Pierce a gooks helmet at 500 yards. Assuming they had a helmet and not a straw hat.

What? Who the fuck would be stupid enough to believe that?
>>
>>31961108
It was designed so you could carry more ammo for the same (or less) weight.

same ppl who say

Or my favorite

Mainly, it was made so the troops could carry more ammo with a lighter weight so they could beat out the reds in extended firefights.

However, it also is intended to wound or maim more than kill based off of the idea that for every enemy wounded, there's going to be more taken out of the fight to care for him. Like say there's a 100v100 firefight and a 5.56 hits its target, because the hole(s) is(are) smaller, he will die slower, if at all, and someone on the enemy side will be forced to help stop the bleeding, making it now a 100v98 instead of a 100v99. Or even if he needs stretcher bearers, then it's 100v97-95, as now 2 to 4 people will have to carry the guy out.

At least that's what I've unofficially learned.

>X is a perfectly good caliber for self defense. You wouldn't want to be shot by one would you?
>>

Carry a lot of ammo for accurate suppressing fire with low recoil.

It's better to hit with a BB than miss with a cannon, and it's a lot easier to hit when you have twice as many rounds as the other guy, a decently flat trajectory, and negligible recoil.

It's also more efficient to carry 5.56 boxes than 7,62 boxes in terms of weight/gun food

Things my step dad says:
>clip
>22 lr is an effective round
>stopping power
>thinks that all ar 15s are just as shitty as they were in Vietnam
>just one grain of sand gets in the weapon and its totally useless
>>
>>31962998
Well yea but its still a very effective round. I mean i wouldnt compare it to a fucking bb.
>>
>>31962950
I thought it was designed specifically to be an intermediate cartridge for automatic fire. Before fully automatic weapons every country in the world used some kind of .30 caliber bullet because it was the most effective caliber for semi automatic fire.
>>
>>31963202
Hell maybe. I'm sure there are tons of reasons for introducing the 5.55

went to Parris Island last weekend for a relative's graduation and heard some guy say that you can hit someone in the shoulder with .44 Magnum and it will blow half their head off.

7.62x39 and .30-30 are basically the same.

This philosophy is known as spray and pray.

Implying the 22lr is not effective at a huge variety of tasks.

I went shooting for the first time the other day and had a fudd moment. Guy I was with was breaking in a 9mm and I thought "It's just 9mm, it can't be that loud". He went to shoot it and
