Holy shit why did we actually buy this piece of shit and not just mount a 90mm gun on the M113 Gavin?
>>31955875
Oh please actually be Sparky, the greatest moron ever to have an opinion about armor.
>>31955924
If I was in charge of all defense procurement the United States would be unstoppable in war. Our airborne bicycle infantry and light armor would blot out the sun.

Damnit, not Sparky.
>>31955875
>not just mount a 90mm gun on the M113 Gavin?
Because the M113 is a tracked vehicle and thus doesn't fit too well into the motorised Stryker groups.
>>31955947
Wheels are a buzzword used by the military industrial complex to justify this boondoggle. That thing would sink into the mud if you tried driving it off road. An M113 Gavin with a modern engine and rubber tracks would be just as fast on road.
>>31955960
Wheeled vehicles have a greater operational range, are easier to maintain and no, the Stryker would not sink into mud if you tried taking it off road. Rasputitsa conditions happen twice a year where applicable and nobody would try driving a Stryker through a swamp.
Honestly should've just dumped the Stryker and bought the Patria. The Stryker's not even amphibious.

>>31955969
>nobody would try driving a Stryker through a swamp.
That's because it would sink into the swamp. An M113 Gavin wouldn't and if modernized would be faster and more fuel efficient than the Stryker.
Also its nice that you omit the Gavin can easily be deployed via glider while the Stryker can't, easily negating any range advantage the Stryker has dozens of times over.

>An M113 Gavin wouldn't
It would.

>Also its nice that you omit the Gavin can easily be deployed via glider
Yes, because it has no notable strategical or operational advantages. Obviously being air-liftable is an advantage over the Stryker, even though it was meant to be deployable by air anywhere on the globe.
>easily negating any range advantage the Stryker has dozens of times over.
Except that once you've glided in, your glider is now useless. You'll have to drive where you want and need to go. If you want to re-glide, you'll need to take over an airfield and almost certainly perform repairs on it after sabotage and combat has made it unfit for cargo plane landings. You'll find it faster to simply drive towards your objective.
Gliding also would only work in flat and unforested enough terrain.

Oh, is this why the Blacktail videos get >implied to hell whenever they're posted? Sorry but I'm, not going to watch all those.
The US should by far rather design a new platform instead of pining on the M113. Just sneakily plagiarise the Russians for their airborne vehicles, BMD, Nona mortars and such.
The M113 for one would need a higher angle to its frontal armor.
>fully airborne mechanized infantry
That's not what mechanized infantry is for though. Mechanised infantry exists to have the maximal amount of combat effectiveness and is used most effectively in focal points to push deep or counter enemy offensives. With high mobility, well armoured and armed vehicles, MBTs attached to the battalion, mobile SPGs and so forth, they're the most combat capable units in most militaries and sacrificing all this for the sake of airborne capabilities is NOT worth it.

I think it might just be that they don't know who Sparky is. I mean, yes, he's one of the greatest comedians of the last 100 years, but still the people who know him are surprisingly small.

What if there was a tracked vehicle you could convert to being a wheeled vehicle?
EH? You can give me the nobel prize now or later.
