I got rid of my Savage 10FCP-SR after listening to /k/. It was dogshit.

Bolt was as gritty as the worst Mosins and had burrs in the raceway so it caught if you tried to push it forward too fast. It shot every match load except for Federal 168s at 2+MOA. GMM was very good, ranging .5 to 1MOA but Federal's specs weren't in line with Savage's. The bullets were seated too far forward and the bolt was tight to close. Once or twice a box it flat out wouldn't chamber a round. Had a great fucking trigger

Got a 700 Police and it's been fantastic. Smooth, just as accurate, and with a better stock, and the 40x trigger is also fantastic compared to the garbage ones.

OP, start with a cheap rifle (Standard Rem700 or a cz) and glas. Go into reloading.

Then paint some one inch circles on a piece of paper, set them up on 100yrd and practice.
Put a buck into a jar for every time you hit a target you aimed for.
When your jar is filled to buy you a Schmidt and Bender mil spec scope and a Sako TRG42 in .300 win mag you also will know, what to buy. And why it is a Sako and why .338 is overrated.

Anyone else cream their pants over those new Alco bullets? I wanna try out their 175gr .30 cal bullets in my .308. I guess the BC is something ridiculous like .644 (B1). Transforms your .308 into a .300 Win Mag. Fuck! They are about $1.50 per bullet, but that is sure a fuck lot cheaper than switching calibers. Hell, reloading .300 win mag or some other speshul snoh-flaque caliber would cost that much in brass and powder anyway. This way you get .300 win mag ballistics with .308 recoil. Bam!
