looking at muzzle brakes for my pistol AR15 and I've narrowed

up side: it has additional ports on the top.

down side: the ports are squared instead of angled like on the other. So, I don't know if it'll be any better.

any suggestions on which one?

Does the first have a cover, or is that something else? The net result of the first one (if it has a cover) will be to vent all the gasses parallel to the muzzle, which won't really help felt recoil at all. The bottom one is better since it looks like the holes aren't going to have a cover thing over them. The gasses will be vented perpendicular to the muzzle and thus will slightly lower felt recoil.

I have one on my 300blk... It doesn't work that well but it fits under my hand guard.

My only problem with the JCOMP is the SI logo. They put a nice parkerized finish, then laser etch it off to put their logo in it. It wouldn't bother me as much if they still used the lightning bolt logo.

Just out of curiosity, could you thread the outside of one of these type blast directors and turn it into a suppressor (with all relevant paperwoek of course)?

It occurred to me that it would make fir a cool quick detach suppressor using the gemtech blast jacket model.

Yeah that's what I bought mine for, but honestly the A2 that was on there seemed less concussive... I bought a hand guard that was too long so I had to get this style. Check out a linear comp.
