>>31951716
You did ok for this day and age.
>>31951716

>>31951794
How much?
>>31951802
>>31951800

>>31951798
Lol how much do these go for anyway?
>>31951798
>>31951800
>>31951802
Michigan, $700
>>31951847
Whats special about that one?
Theyre like 350 bucks for an m39 on classic firearms.
>>31951861
its a b barrel so its relatively rare (about 8000 made) and its in near mint condition. classic was selling them for $800 when they were in stock.
https://www.classicfirearms.com/finnish-m39-mosin-nagant-rifle-762x54r-b-barrel
>>31951847
ill do 600
This image sucks and you can't see much but there's a good bit of debris in the barrel, I think I few patches good get it out though.
>>31951894
what about mine
>>31951902
Nigga that is rust. But you should be okay, will take a good bit of elbow grease and time tho
>>31951908
oh cool. how 2 fix
>>31951876
Cool, what does b barrel mean exactly?
>>31951926
Power drill, cleaning rod and brush. Hoppes.
>>31951927
Belgian barrel. They were M91 barrel blanks purchased by Finland in 1942 and made in occupied Belgium. In the end they weren't made into rifles until after WW2 ended, so they generally didn't see much if any use.
>>31951953
That is the coolest shit.
>>31951927
the b barrels were made in belgium in 1942 but never used in the war, they were assembled post war and most were never issued like this one.
Got this Chinese SKS for $80 last week. Next to my Enfield.
How'd I do?
>>31951995
$80!? damn
>>31951995
Does it go full auto
>>31951847
I'll pass, I have other things I want more for that much.
>>31952710
me too
Really wish there was a 98az up on Gunbroker right now.
Mausers are ugly as fuck but this will make a good beater
>>31953064
Is that romanian
>>31953082
I went to an auction with an M48 today; it turned out to be mis-matched so I didn't stick around.
>>31953137
If you had gotten it cheap enough it would have been fine
>>31953094
Indeed. My first gun ever, nearly 12 years ago.
>>31953281
Nah, I knew enough of the other assholes who showed up this morning to know they'd pay more for it than it would have been worth if still matching. Most of these guys know just enough about milsurp to be dangerous; I didn't want to stand around for 4 hours to watch it happen.
Nugget, gew 88, svt40, garand, m39 nugget, martini Henry, swede mauser
>>31953396
Sorry for the shit picture, the lighting in my apartment sucks.
>>31953396
On your Gew.88's sling the stacking loop goes between the slide and the QD swivel.
>>31953487
The Gew88 doesn't have a stacking swivel. It has a metal loop that is captured by the cleaning rod to keep the sling up and out of the way.
>>31953561
Yeah, and you have yours on wrong. Fix.
>>31953643
ooooh ok now I see what I have wrong...
>tfw bolt assemblies are coming in this week for my 2 Steyr M95s
>have like 66 clips for them after working out a good deal to buy 56 of them from a guy
Feels good. Gonna actually make about $25 on one too when I sell it to my friend, for a little under what I'm seeing them go for now days.
>>31953396
>Martini Henry
Jelly. Do you reload your own rounds and cast your own bullets??
>>31953902
I have all the stuff to do it but just haven't gotten it set up. I've been sidetracked with other projects for a while.
God, I need more French arms, especially Berthier's.
When I get some more money, I may go hunting for a French K98k.
>when
>>31954212
You and me both.
I would suck a dick for a Mas 223 or a RSC.
>>31951716
Whats a good price for a calvery carcano?
>>31955834
$250-300ish.

Here's a few of my 'surps. Not pictured: Mosin M91, Mosin M38, Mosin 91/30, Chink SKS, a couple Enfields, Gewehr 1888, National Postal Meter M1 Carbine, and my most recent acquisition which I'll post next...
>>31957599
And 2/2
International Harvester M1 Garand
I just redid the stock on my Nagant, how's it look
>>31957621
Like a shitty sanded and refinished stock looks. This is a thread for collectors, not bubbas who ruin their guns.
>>31957621
Looks good.
>>31957632
>removing storage shellac from a mosin ruins it
You're retarded.
>>31957638
>storage shellac
You mean the original finish? So many rare and expensive guns have been ruined by your kind.
>>31957632
Good job you collected 1 of 60 million mosin Nagants
>>31957660
>round receiver 91/30
M-m-muh rare!
Don't be a fucking retard.
>>31957668
There weren't 60 million of Mosins made.
There aren't even a majority of those made that are still around today.
The more bubbas around the even less remain as they should.
And most importantly of them all, the retards that do these sort of things can't tell the difference between a $200 and a $2000 gun.
>just an ordinary Mosin, right?
>>31957701
Yep, just an ordinary Mosin alright!
>>31957686
And see, that's what I mean. There are some very rare round receiver Mosins out there, but you wouldn't know because of your ignorance.
>>31951716
I just got a near-perfect No 1 MkIII* for $300, did I do good?
I have an Arisaka Type 44 for sale
Also Looking for Type 99s or 1903s
>>31957731
How much for the arisaka?
>>31957731
>I just got a near-perfect No 1 MkIII* for $300, did I do good?
Post pics of it.
>I have an Arisaka Type 44 for sale
Same one that was posted awhile back?
>>31957712
Tell me about my mosin please, about the markings
>>31954212
How are the Berthiers? I'm actually in France and there's a lot of those around
>>31951716
Damn, lucky bastard. Enjoy it!
>>31957811
well I'm not sure, but I think that this mosin MIGHT have been manufactured in 1944.
Anyone pumped for Trump possibly okaying the import of M1 Carbines and Garands from Korea? Imagine $300-$500 M1s and pingy-ping rifles.
>>31957811
1944, made in the Tula Arsenal. All I really know. Go to http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinMarks01.htm
these are the marks for the Russian ones
>>31957811
Nothing too special other than the post-war laminated stock. Those are slightly uncommon. WWII laminated stocks are rare though. But that's not what I am getting at.
>>31957838
>How are the Berthiers?
Nice. I love them! It's honestly my favorite rifle design that I own. One day I'm going to have to buy one of each variation. A Carabine de Cuirassier is gonna be a bitch to find.
A lot in France got rechambered to shoot .348 Winchester so people could purchase them on a less stringent license. So be aware of that.
>>31957865
Unlikely. I explained why they aren't being imported already in the other thread. The Koreans just want too much for them. They're all worn out and in shit condition.
>>31957926
Didn't see it. That's unfortunate. I was really hoping the M1s and Garands would become the new poorfag rifle. Did we export our outdated weapons to anywhere else?
>>31957926
They want too much for them? I was under the impression that they were still US property and they were just sort of stuck in limbo over there. Is that not so?
>>31957811
tula factory, 1944 was last year of production IIRC
>>31957731
I've got a remington 1903a3 I'd be willing to sell
>>31957978
No. The ones that were US property under lend lease were already returned. That's where the CMP gets their guns from. Foreign powers also just outright bought guns and were given guns non-leased. Those last two are what's left and the latter of the two had a stipulation that they could not be returned without congressional approval or something like that.
>>31957632
Aren't you the dude who said my Type 38 was sanded
Filename says it all.
>>31958023
Yes, it has been.
>>31951995
$80?! There must be something wrong with it.
I'd buy it for $300 on the spot assuming it works
>>31954182
Sweet, I'd love a Mas 49
>>31958012
Gotcha. So I was just sort of mixing the two.
>>31957926
how much is the usual cost for a normal berthier over there?
>>31958231
You mean here in the US? I spent $225 for this all matching mousqueton made in 1891, but I don't think that's the norm. I suspect more of around $400. They aren't that common though and prices are all over the place. The funniest prices are for the Remington made 07/15s. People are paying more than $1000 for them in some cases. They aren't even that rare here because they were never sent over! The rare Remingtons were the few thousand that were actually delivered to France and had to be reworked.
>>31951926
shoot it then clean it
>>31953082
>Mausers are ugly as fuck
wow kys
Might be going to a gun show this weekend to look for some milsurp. Any tips? Prices to look for?
>>31958359
Don't impulse buy. Check prices on the internet before buying. Check for matching numbers and inspect bores.
any of you guys coming to nuggetfest this weekend?
>>31958373
Where would I usually look for serial numbers? I know the locations aren't all the same for different rifles, but just a general overview of where to look
>>31958041
How can you tell? I want to know what to look for in future purchases
>>31958422
Look at how the sharp edges have been sanded down and rounded over and how the metal parts stick out from the stock. Look especially around the stock fullers. Compare your gun to mine in my pic (even though this is a Type 99 it works) and see how sharp everything is. Also, it's common to have things like barrel bands and handguards not fit snugly as it should after being sanded.
For your Arisaka specifically, as it looks like a Kokura or Nagoya judging by the front sight wings, it should have a urushi finish and yours does not.
>>31958522
I've heard they refinished some captures in boot polish, mine was a capture, would it be possible that's what's been done to it?
Check it nerds.
Ive picked up a celebratory k31, the one on the left, in response to the god emperors victory.
>>31958408
Check bolts, recievers, barrels, original stocks and detachable magazines if the rigle has one.
>>31958699
Is classic ever going to get more of these in stock, or am I better off browsing gun shows?
>>31958003
where at? how much? and bost pics
>>31958753
Probably not, troll gunshows.
Careful of assholes trying to sell k11s as k31s every gunshow ive been to i the last year has had them.
>>31958316
thats a purdy little piece. Howd you get your hands on it for so little? Whats it shoot? I just got a reloading station set up and I've mostly been doing .303.
>>31958699
nice. bought me a walnut k31 last sunday and got a case of 7.5 in the mail today. saturday cant come fast enough.
>>31958699
>celebratory
Where's the plate then?
>>31958814
How much did yours run you, 450 for this one. The bore os incredible.
I wish i could buy bulk reloadable 7.5
>>31958829
Plate?
>>31958753
Not likely. And if they do they won't be for the price they have now. Expect at least $450.
>>31958853
550 at a fun show. 1954 with a 41 stock although all numbers match so thats kinda weird i guess. got a troop tag in butt plate as well and a sling. im happy. i cant put the fucker down. ordered a bayonet today.
Anyone else planning on going to the Oaks Center show in December? I have a noguns friend that wants to get something so I invited him to go along. Dunno what I want yet though
>>31958876
Im ordering some slings and bayonets today.
Wtf even are diopter sites anyway?
>>31958862
Oh I get it now.
I thought you had a "celebratory K31" as in a special edition. Like pic related.
>>31958898
basically aperture sights or peep sights
>>31958908
Basically the sights on my rifle.
It's for sports shooting.
>>31958904
Oh, yeah never even heard of those.
Whats the story?
>>31958908
Oh ok. Are they really that much better than standard irons?
>>31958938
idk, never used em
>>31958927
Thats is a handsome rifle anon.
You swiss?
>>31958938
>Whats the story?
Special editions that are made in Switzerland and sold for a ton of money.
>Oh ok. Are they really that much better than standard irons?
Much better. I would say that without these sights, the rifle is not as good.
>>31958946
Yeah.
>>31958595
It's possible. There are many reports of soldiers, marines and sailors being sent to sick bay/hospital because of them sanding the urushi finish off and getting burns from it. Urushi is a relative to poison ivy lol.
>>31958776
I just lucked out, I guess. Not many people are interested in French arms. It shoots 8mm Lebel. Here's a Hotchkiss strip of 8mm that came with the gun. None of it will go off though ;_;
And yes, before someone asks, my gun was rechambered for "balle N."
>>31958958
Based swiss bro.
My family is from there.
Whats the sight picture through one, are similar to standard optics?
>>31958958
aw sweet what does this mean? i know the first line is a name and the 3rd, well obliviously. but the 2nd and 4th?
>>31959006
troop tag from my k31 btw
Most of my surplus is now on the wall of my old bedroom at home. Sorry for the crappy pic; lighting in that room is terrible.
>>31957737
I'll share some info in a second, sorry for being so late to reply.
>>31957760
I'll post some pics in a few, and probably
>>31958003
Info and photos? You can email me at [email protected]
So who is the go-to company now for buying reasonably priced surplus? Been a awhile since I've owned one but BF1 has me itching for something WW1-ish.
>>31951740
when did you get that and how much did you pay?
I bought one for $600 last year, all matching #'s and its in mint condition.
>>31959042
Gunbroker. Or Simpsons.
>>31959044
My 03a3? I got it 4 or 5 years ago. Paid $450 or so.
>>31959073
Simpsons? Haven't heard of them before. I've always hit up:
Classic Arms (before they were bought out)
J&G
Aim Surplus
Liberty Tree
Assorted SG News ads.

>>31959211
>Got this as my first rifle last week. : )
Nice, Romanian?
>>31959243
Why don't you like Mauser actions? I still wanna get my hands on a Krag, I've read things, wonderful things.
>>31957632
>Mosin Nagants are collector rifles
>>31959314
I know where you're coming from, but you do recognize that is NOT a Mosin, right?
>>31959249
Norinco
>>31959258
They're very boring to me and not particularly smooth. Performance wise there's nothing wrong with them but I will probably never WANT to shoot one like I do other guns.
>>31959327
I was referring to >>31957621's rifle
>>31959314
As I said before, stop being ignorant. Just because something isn't that rare doesn't make it not collectable and as I also said, the rare ones get trashed because of idiots like you.
And just remember, people said the very same thing about Enfields, Mausers, Springfields, Arisakas, Krags, etc.
>>31958804
What's the gun on the bottom? I'm not familiar with it.
>>31959445
That's a Swiss STG-57.

>>31959030
Here it is, the wood is a little dark so it's hard to get a nice photo.
>>31958699
Looks really nice.
>>31959541
Ah. A 1962 Indian made SMLE. That would explain the price.
>>31959671
Hey man, RFI has literally the same tooling as any other ordnance factory, and 1962 is just before the India-China war, when Britain was still in charge.
Also, it's stamped as GRI, identifying it as British-Indian as opposed to Indian.
>>31959671
I got my 1917 BSA SMLE for the same price
>>31959753
That's because prior to 1963, there was no difference between BSA and GRI
>>31959775
You mean 1949, right?
>>31959782
No, 1963
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishapore_2A1_rifle
>>31959800
No, you meant 1949, you just didn't know it. Post-Independence the Ishapore factory's quality control began a slow slide to more typical 3rd world standards. Also FYI, they didn't stop making the Mk.III* when they introduced the 2A; Ishapore was making .303-caliber rifles as late as 1987.
>>31959829
citation needed?
>>31951995
Sweet. Plenty of cash left over to get rid of that railed cover and a new bayonet
>>31951740
I have some questions that I was hoping you might be able to answer.
Obviously there are differences between a 1903-A3 and the Mk1, or even some other models. Assuming I can find them in GunBroker, would it be easier to get any goddamn 1903 and shove the A3 sights onto it? Or maybe I would have an easier time doing so if I bought a stripped receiver and built it from the ground up? Maybe a mixture of both?
What's the deal with a Mark 1? Can I just ignore the hole on the side and treat it like a regular 1903-A1? If I get a better deal with a sporterized gun, should I take the savings and invest in making it original configuration?
>I really want a 1903, preferably the A3
Where can I find a 20 round fixed Chinese SKS mag?
I've been poking around but haven't had any luck yet.
>>31959999
You cannot mount A3 sights onto an earlier 03; the plain-03 receivers do not have the squared-off receiver bridge necessary. It would also significantly devalue the earlier 03.
>What's the deal with a Mark 1? Can I just ignore the hole on the side and treat it like a regular 1903-A1?
Yes.
All I want is a SMLE with volley sights and a mag cut off. It shouldn't be so hard to find...
stupid question but how do i find wwi milsurp rifles? Where do i even begin to look?
>>31960239
Gun shows, armslist, gunbroker. Bring your wallet.
>>31958699
Are those two k31s mating to make a baby k31?
>>31951716
Would you guys recommend getting an Ishapore 308? I was thinking of getting one for it to be one big caliber rifle (only own .22s, a 12 gauge break open, and a 9mm Keltec and 9mm Hi Point rifle)
308's a good caliber, and I want something bigger with a capacity bigger than one. Would you guys recommend it, it's cheaper than most other options I find whether at the local gun shop or online
>>31960336
I really wouldn't recommend any milsurp if you wanna be cheap honestly.
But since you're likely not going to listen, they're ok rifles. Stick to lighter loads though.
>>31960336
As said above, Indian enfields started getting worse after the 2A1 came out. If you want to get a milsurp rifle, get a mosin, as 7.62x54R is comparable to 308 anyways ballistically, and is cheaper
>>31960334
Swiss casting couch.
>>31960336
Just shoot 7.62 NATO...... it isn't a .308Win..... Dimensionally they are similar but, in terms of cartridge pressure they are not.
You can safely shoot 7.62 NATO in you Ishapore 2A and the sights are intended for that load and bullet weight.
Additionally, you will find surplus 7.62 NATO cheaper than commercial .308 Win.
Alrighty, I've got the family photo. My only milsurp rifles so far... I need a 1917
Irishcontract enfield(fazakerly)
M1903a3 (remington)
Vkt m39
>>31961068
The 1903 bayonet has better trips than I do...
>>31959740
I didn't mean that they were made of poor quality, it's just that they aren't that well desirable, especially the later date ones.
The ones made in the 20s and 30s are fairly rare desu.
>>31961431
Oh, you're probably right about that, as not many people want guns that are made in countries that are now basically third worlds.
>>31959740
>1962
>when Britain was still in charge.
Not of India...
>tfw stuck in commiefornia till after Thanksgiving
I want to buy milsurp rifles but I dont want to go through the hoops commiefornia makes you jump through.
Any good gun stores in the Portland areas I should know about?
Just got a MkIII*, will upload pics soon. I don't have a safe or anything like that, do you guys have any tips for storage? I live in Florida and its kinda humid indoors, some of my hats and stuff in my closet just spontaneously grow mold lol.
>>31961455
Not India as a whole, but the rifles were manufactured and stamped Royal Ordnance. Prior to 1962, the country of origin for RFI rifles was "British India". Even after the partition of India in 1947, the staff in arms industries were mainly run by British, or at least British-Indians.
>>31961570
>Prior to 1962, the country of origin for RFI rifles was "British India"
"British India" ceased to exist in 1947 when it was divided into the Dominion of Pakistan and the Dominion of India. The Dominion of India became the Republic of India in 1950.
>>31961681
And the rifles continued to be stamped with GRI, identifying them as property of the British Emperor until 1962. You're failing to make distinguish the difference between the Royal Ordnance Factory Ishapore and India as a whole.
>>31951995
>$80
Be fucking proud of that purchase
Would it be possible to switch the stock on an M48 out for a K98k stock? I love how the 98k stock looks, but I hate the Yugo one, especially how the upper handguard extends back past the rear sight. Really I just want a "K98k" without having to pay the ridiculous prices they go for compared to M48s.
Would chopping up a spare Yugo handguard be be preferred? Too Bubba?
>>31961873
I am also extremely curious about this
>>31961873
>>31961902
For reference this is pretty much what I would like to do (if the 98k stock won't fit)
At a very basic start but I feel like milsurp will now be much more affordable in the future
>>31951716
>>31951716
Picked this up a few weeks ago.
>number match mosin.
>pristine bore
>better trigger than the Savage I traded for it
Just gotta do some things to it to make it rock, had the bolt stick shut after running some tullammo fmj's
>>31962088
And it didn't post... cute, thank you samsung.
>>31961873
>>31961933
No. The actions aren't exactly the same. Just buy a god damn Russian captured or Israeli K98k if you want to cheap out.
>>31962227
But how would the action impact the wood? By cutting it down, wouldn't it appear the same?
My fat ass just shot my M91/30 nugget recently.
It's in amazing shape for being almost 100 years old. The wood's a little beat up, but nothing rattles and the bore is amazing
Fun fact: Simple Green is great for cosmoline removal.
>>31962242
As in it won't fit.
>>31961711
>and the rifles continued to be stamped with GRI
>Lion Capital of Ashoka
>RFI
>1951
>>31962242
The M48 receiver is shorter than that of the Kar.98k. An M48 action won't properly fit in a Kar.98k stock. If you want a cheap rifle that looks like a Kar.98k then get a Yugoslavian-refurb Kar.98k like this one:

What would be a good price for a Yugo refurb K98k? There's one on armslist like an hour away from me for 450$. Seller says its in great condition so it seems like a good deal, but I don't have any "want" money set aside right now so I'd have to dip into my savings (or trade my Makarov but I'd really rather not)

Last year they were selling for around $250-350, depending on condition.
Finally got to shoot my Ishapore 2A last weekend
>lowering rifle to work the action
I was slung up and wasn't comfortable with doing that yet
Also, the nose piece on mine is canted to the left, but if I don't secure it with the bottom screw it doesn't lean over, what can/ should I do about that? Shims?

just curious
what should i get, M1 or keep searching for a no4 mk2
M1 pros
>hard to beat cool factor
>semi auto
>easy to find
M1 cons
>easy to find, meaning they wont be drying up too soon (at least on the private market)
thats about it
no4 mk2 pros
>quite rare, especially the unissued ones
>dat capacity
>muh sun never sets
no4 mk2 cons
>hard to find
>bolt rather than semi
>if i find a mint one i might not want to shoot it much if at all
>more expensive than M1 even

$700 is a lot for a Russian-captured refurb. Classic managed to shift some RCs for that kind of money a couple months ago; may have been panic buying due to the election or their almost magical ability to hype products up to a devoted customer base, but I've never seen RCs go for so much before. IMO this rifle isn't worth $700. For it to be worth that much it should have most if not all of its original parts despite the Russian refurb, or at least all parts that are correct for that date of manufacture.
The low serial thing is BS; the rifle's serial is "200s" and "s" is a long way down the alphabet if you know what I mean. It's got a triggerguard from another rifle that the Russians didn't bother to match to the receiver, and the stamped floorplate is wrong for 1940. The bayonet is also fucky too; the blade is right but the pommel and grip scales are wrong shape for a Seitengewehr 84/98 and look like they came off a Vz.24.

How much should I be spending for a Type 99 in decent shape? My LGS has 2 for sale, one with a 26" barrel and one with a 31" barrel for $220 and $225 respectively. This would be my first gun, used mainly for hunting.
I haven't been able to see them in person yet because I'm in college (gun would be kept safe at my parents house) but I'm heading home tomorrow, and I'm gonna try to make it to the shop.
>>31963842
From what I've seen recently those prices seem pretty good. I would make sure they're not last ditch personally, but even still, you could do a lot worse. If it were me I would buy them asap, but I've always liked Arisakas so I'm a bit biased. This is of course assuming they aren't sporterized.
As for hunting with one, I would almost definitely go with another round. 7.7 is not cheap, and unless you plan on reloading you'd be much better off with a more common round.

>>31963908
Here's a pic of the 26" barrel. That's one of the hang ups I have is the price of the ammo, some basic research is pointing to $1.50 a round. Also, my left eye is the dominant one, and they're both RH weapons. However, I may bite the bullet (kek) and just buy the gun, use it for a couple years, until I have the cash flow for a different gun.
Here's what I'm thinking.
Pros:
+Cool historic piece
+Fairly cheap, but still near the top of my personal price range (~$300)
+Probably won't find much better at this price before hunting season is over
Cons:
- Ammo prices
- I'm left eye dominant, but right hand dominant, so I could shoot the gun, however it's not ideal
>>31958699
Looking to get a K31, tips on where to get one because Classicfirearms isn't looking too good.
>>31963991
Are you looking to only spend $300 in total? As in you would only pick up one of the two Arisakas? If you're only looking to pick up a single rifle for hunting and ONLY hunting, I would probably pass on them and get something more common. But like you said, its a great historic piece and for that price its hard to beat. Personally, I would get it, both if possible, though I definitely would lean towards the 31" barrel if I had to choose one. Something about uncovered barrels just does things to me.
>>31963766
That's Gunbroker man. Some sellers rely on bidding wars, sometimes it just happens. Can't win them all.
Pic related. The one auction I won the seller won't give me an address to send his money to.
Where can I get a flamed arctic birch stock for a K31 rifle?
Will the price of the K31 fall under Trump? I hear he wants to lower the price of guns, I think especially imported ones
I picked up this Astra 600 for 300 dollary doos came with a extra may and a west German police holster it was this or a K 31 for 50 more what would y'all have gotten
>>31964099
Lol supply and demand senpai.
They aren't importing them anymore.
Thats why k31s arent 50 bucks anymore.
>>31964064
Looking at the listing again, turns out the 31" has the aircraft sight on it as well... Hmmm.
Yeah, I've decided 300 is the number I'd like to stay on for one gun for now, relying on college jobs is a fucking bitch. I have the money to technically buy both, however I would be living paycheck to paycheck for the rest of the semester. That 300 number is a bit flexible, but not by much. It wouldn't be only for hunting, but at close to $2/rd, I would need to wait to go back to my better paying summer job to start going to the range and shooting it more often.
But, my thinking is even the Remington/Mossberg 12 gauges I'm seeing around are still $400+, so I would rather have a piece of world history for almost half, even if rounds are more expensive.
>>31964136

>>31964193
The last age? What does that mean?
>>31964138
Yeah I feel you, same boat here. Recently spent all my saved up summer-funs money on a Makarov and an SKS, but now I'm really considering dipping into my savings (or trading my Makarov) for a Yugo-captured K98k.
The aircraft sights are great to have on there, but the sporterized stock is a deal-breaker personally. In that state I would go for the short-barrel. A new early-Type 99 stock would cost way more, though I would definitely keep an eye on it. If it stays around your lgs for a while, try and pick it up whenever you can, it would be a cool gun to have, Type 99 Longs are pretty rare.
The bent-bolt also kills me on the inside, but as a hunting rifle and not a pure collector's rifle that shouldn't matter too much.
>>31964159
It's definitely a Type 99 Long, Type 38s just have the blade front sight post, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never heard of any Type 38s having aircraft sights.
>>31964210
Pretty much all the weapons that will be phased out of militaries are all full auto assault rifles, all the old semi and bolt rifles are drying up.
>>31964230

>>31964230
I'm not a fan of the sporter stock either, but I think this will be probably the best value (power, price point, personal satisfaction of ownership) that I can get right now. I'll still go fingerfuck them both this weekend, however we'll see how it goes. I'd rather see these go to me than some other fudd who completely bubbas them, I think I would be able to give them the respect that they deserve for being so fucking old. Pretty tough decision.

>Bolt/semi
>common enough round to buy in bulk
>decent irons
>not a mosin
>>31965659
SKS
>>31965659
I agree with >>31965770 An sks uses cheap 7.62x39 which you can buy in bulk online. Sks's are also relatively cheap compared to other rifles that shoot 7.62x39. I'd recommend you get an older (see serial number) chinese sks since they are going to be the best value and sport a chrome lined bore.
I'd personally recommend a lee enfield pattern rifle if you want a "full powered" rifle cartridge. The actions are nice, the sights are light-years better than a mosin, They have light-ish recoil, and .303 brit is reasonably cheap and available to get online. I'd recommend the No.4 Mk.1 or No.4 Mk.2 due to commonality.
I think I've just found my holy grail of milsurp.

Pic related is God-tier WWI rifle, though someone put some paint on the sights before I had gotten it.
What does a "J" stamped receiver mean on a Lithgow SMLE? Pic related.
>>31960186
You're describing an original Mk.III Lee Enfield, basically manufactured between 1907-early 1915. It was in 1915 that the Mk.III* came out which did away with the volley sights, the windage-adjustable rear sight, and the magazine cut-off. Mine is sort of a transitional model; has the windage-adjustable rear-sight and the slot in the receiver for the magazine cut-off, but no actual cut-off, and the stock is completely lacking the cut-outs for the volley sights.
>>31966627
It's the rifle in this image. Knob on the left must be pushed in to adjust for elevation, while the knob on the right can be turned to adjust for windage, if I remember it correctly.
>>31966598
Well that's odd; I recall my No.4's rear sight to go out to 800yd maximum. Is that a No.4 Mk.2 perhaps?
>>31964284
one sold on gb a few days ago and i just found another with a collector out of state
>>31964907
>>31964974
Okay retard, keep telling me about my rifle. It IS in fact a privately owned rifle, having been "P" marked in 1954.
I didn't buy it from a private seller, but from an importer. Swiss Bubba did it in the 50s to what was his property.
>>31966650
Isn't that for a No5? Fairly sure all of the adjustable No4 sights go to 1200.
>>31966627
While the lowest setting says 400, they shaved the front sight down so it became 200.
At any rate, the sights on the SMLE suck too. P14/M1917 or bust.
>>31966684
>they shaved the front sight down so it became 200.
That'd make the rounds impact higher.
>>31966638
I know. I was being somewhat hyperbolic, they're not exactly common in the configuration I'm searching for. But I gotta have it the way it first went to war. Same with a Mosin. Or a Gew98. Or anything else.
>>31966669
Huh, but what about No.4 Mk.I/2? That's No.4 Mk.I Lee Enfields that were refurbished to Mk.2 specs. Perhaps since the No.4 Mk.2 was a bit more accurate, they gave the Mk.I/2 a rear sight with less distance? Just a thought.
>>31966690
This.
>>31966684
Also, wouldn't doing shit like that REALLY mess with the sights once it came time to go to longer ranges? Anyways, the SMLE's sights at least aren't obstructive as shit. Indeed P14/M1917 sights are God tier, but while things like Mk.III* sights are pretty much normal tier, Gewehr 98 is shit tier because of their obstruction.
>>31966692
Then yeah, you want an unrefurbished Mk.III Lee Enfield from somewhere between 1907-early 1915 before the Mk.III* came about, and I guess you'll want a Gewehr 98 with the 400m rear sight.
>>31966723
No. All FTR'd rifles and upgraded rifles were given Mk1 micrometer sights during the process if they didn't already have them or were damaged. Mk2 rifles were made with Mk1 sights.
And it's 1300yrds, I mistakenly said 1200yrds.
Any micrometer sight that looks like a Mk1 but only goes to 800 is for a No5 carbine and inccorect for a No4. Although if you're not using true milspec Mk7, or shooting past 800, then it doesn't really matter since a) sights not calibrated to ammo b) distance not needed and c) front sight post height might have been changed from correct zero along with the rear sight.
>>31963270
>>31963622
I have some more questions about these Yugo refurb K98ks if you guys could help me out some more.
I've been looking around for some info online and some of the sources I've seen people say that when they were refurbished, the Yugos mix-and-matched parts a la Russian captures. At the same time, I've seen others say they were left matching, so I'm not sure which to believe. I also read that they put new barrels on them, but that's getting contradicted too. Any light shed on these would be much appreciated.
>>31966684
You have that backward; they installed a taller front sight leaf to bring the point of impact down and make the minimum zero 200m. From personal experience this also makes an effective zero at 50m. My Gew.98 still has its original matching short front sight blade.
>>31967342
Yugo Kar.98k were often more extensively rebuilt than Russian ones; Zastava re-barreled thousands of them, something I don't think the Russians bothered with. However, these refurbs were also done at several smaller government workshops and depots across Yugoslavia, and each had different standards for how they went about rebuilding the rifles.
>>31967342
The Yugos would have restamped parts to match unlike the Soviets. They only EP'd the bolt to match the receiver and stamped the number on the left side of the stock after sanding off the former inspection marks.
>>31967394
>something I don't think the Russians bothered with.
No, of course not. If they had a gun with a bad barrel during the cold-war refurb process, whether it was a Mosin or not, it went into the smelter. They may have kept some of the smaller parts, but a Mauser action would have been scrapped.

Leaning towards the 1896/11 because that's a real designation while apparently the 1911/23 is an American invented classification that isn't actually a real model number.

>>31968305
Except you're under the assumption that everyone's knows this.
A lot of /k/ is new. A lot of /k/ has heard of things from the mid 2000s when you could get a bunch of milsurp ammo chealy. But that's not true anymore. I push Reloading for 2 reasons. 1, it is great self sufficiency for you as shooter. Not just for hard to find or expensive calibers but overall. You will be less prone to panics or import bans or anything like that. And #2, because it creates an incentive for companies like PPU to keep making and expanded their lines of ammo. The larger the market, the more companies want as slice of it.
So yeah, I repeat it a lot. I don't like saying the same shit over and over again either. But I consider it in my best interests and the best interests of milsurp collectors in general, to do so.
>>31968109
The short rifle is just a 1911 carbine, I don't know why they added a made up designation. They're neat guns. It comes down to whether you want a LONG rifle, or regular length rifle.
I have a 96/11 that was made in 1900, and it has about as much history to it as a Swiss military rifle can have.
This thread need more Springfield.
Speaking of Springfields, I found a really good deal on a 1904 enfield that was rebarreled in 1918. It has a "danger zone" receiver, I think numbered at around 10,000. I think I can get the guy to around $450 for it.
Should I buy it? Will it blow up in my face if I shoot it? Should I buy it but only use low grain loads in it?

>>31969930
>>31969890
The thing about the safetyness of early M1903s, it's not that they are unsafe or safe, it's just that there are SAFER options to shoot. The likelyhood of one bursting is extremely low, but on the other hand a "higher number" M1903 isn't that expensive either so why risk it? You can have one to collect and another to shoot.
>>31970280
Where's the bayonet on your SKS, Frenchanon?
I've also heard that. A lot of French collectors buy their French arms from the US or Switzerland. It's cheaper to export/import them than to buy them in France.

That Mle1936 isn't cheap. It's WWII correct and all matching (except for the bayonet, which is from another WWII correct one). This rifle was made about a week or two before the armistice and has remained unfired since being prooved at the factory.

>Flintlock ruled the world for over a century
>Minie ball improved accuracy, penetration, and reload speed for rifled muskets
>Smokeless powder further improved accuracy and penetration and has been the standard worldwide for over a century
>First to use FMJ and spitzer bullets I think, both of which have also been standard for over a century

>First standard-issue semi-auto rifle (M1 Rifle) made by French-Canadian John Cantius Garand which lead to the M1 Carbine, M14, and Mini 14/30
The French contributed a staggering amount towards the advancement of small arms technology, and anyone who fancies themselves as an individual who knows firearm history would have great respect for them.
Before anyone makes the claim; no, I'm neither French, nor French-Canadian. I also recall a semi-auto rifle being used in small numbers by France during WWI. 1917 I think was the year it was developed, and was reloaded from the base of the receiver via en bloc clip if memory serves. Then they adopted a very well made semi-auto rifle while much of the world still had bolt actions for their primary rifles. Years before the G3, years before the FN FAL/L1A1/C1, and Russia had only just began mass producing the AK-47 and SKS-45. Russia didn't have to rebuild itself after having been under the rulership of another nation for years though. Under terrible warfare for years, yes, but they had never been successfully invaded and captured like France had. As it happens, they also all had rails for optics as standard, and also were issued (at least to some extent) with spare mags.
Yup, France's firearm history is criminally underrated. They may have made more firearm advancements than any other nation.
