ITT we discuss knives for those who are looking to purchase one and are fucking noobs.

I wanted to grab a Benchmade 530 Pardue - is it a good choice for a first knife in my EDC?

sysadmin, midwest. plan on going hunting for the first season this year. Already EDC a s&w shield, visit the conservation league on a regular basis to use the handgun/rifle and trap ranges.

You may want to start with something a little cheaper so you get a feel for what's available. Benchmade, Spyderco, Ontario, Cold Steel, and with some discretion, CRKT and Kershaw, typically offer quality products.

I don't see any drawback to a spear point except for cleaning game. It can be used just as easily as a drop point for everyday cutting.

I sell these at my shop. Here are my opinions

Pros:
>Light ~1.9 oz
>Okay blade steel
>Benchmade fit and finish
>Axis lock

Cons:
>Overpriced
>Terrible blade shape
>Zytel is garbage
>No jimping
>Thumb studs are partially occluded by the handle making deployment difficult

Reccomendation:
>Save up your lunch money a little more and get a paramilitary 2, or for the same amount of money get a mini griptilian
>>
>>31950188
I second the mini grip, they're great
>>
>>31950158
you say you want to go hunt, i think that spearpoint folder would not be an efficent field dressing knife. maybe get a spyderco endura or a mini griptilian if you are hellbent on using that kind of money for your first EDC.

I don't wanna spend as close to, or over, $100 on my first EDC knife, I just wasn't sure which model to go with... The one I knew was close to $100 tho

not bad as recommendations go.
>>
>>31950310
>pocket carry
+completely concealed except for possible outline
-loose in pocket, can fall out or rotate making it hard to deploy
>pocket clip carry
+secure
+easy to access
-visible
-clip can snag if you brush by something
>belt carry
+secure
+easy to access
+/-best for fixed blades
-visible
-need a sheath
>>
>>31950143
Single edged =\= dagger
>>
>>31951469
I prefer pocket clip carry but pocket carry my leek w/o pocket clip when I'm going to class. Either one is good but I wouldn't suggest sheath carry unless you want to look autismo
>>
sog flash 2. good size, easy open, hides in the pocket quite well (though kiiind of thick), cheapish, and easy to sharpen.

Buy quality knives and you won't regret it. So many people do zero research when it comes to knives and end up with 10 different shitty folders they got at Walmart- which would equate to one or two legitimate models from quality manufacturers.

Personally, I pair a slightly larger "tactical/emergency defensive" knife with a smaller utility blade. Posted this pic a million times, but it's a good example: Benchmade Contego and a Spyderco dragonlfly. Sometimes switch the dragonfly out with a SOG mini Aegis or something like a Swiss Army knife/multi tool.
This style simply saves wear and tear on my larger, more expensive "weapon" role knives so I can beat on the smaller cheaper ones I wouldn't necessarily defend my life with.

Tl;dr: Buy quality. Do research. Fondle knives at stores.

Does anyone have the Kershaw CQC 4kxl?
If so, is it really as big as it seems? Or do the people giving video reviews just have small hands?

I just got a Kershaw CQC 6k and I don't like it. I just wanted to try the wave feature but the knife is just not right. Its like its way to small compared to my Thermite.
Don't want to spend more money getting the CQC 4kxl if it turns out that knife is unrulely.

For most people a blade such as the Spyderco delica is perfect. The blade is easy to maintain, it is thin and light, the clip is capable of 4 positions and it is fully ambidextrous with a solid lock and a price of ~ 64 bucks on Amazon.

If you don't like that and want something that geeks mire substantial, the rst model 2 is a nice sized, solid liner lock for under 30 dollars with a tank and solid feel.

If your looking to spend more or just want an axis lock, buy a mini griptillian.I may not like benchmade, but the mini grip is a well made and reliable knife and solid for the money you spend for it while being fully ambidextrous for around 90 bucks.

Cold steel has the voyager line which offers a large volume of blade shakes and sizes and while cold steel seems memey as fuck, these ate solid and have earned a place in knife sales for around 20-40 bucks.

Budget, intended use and state are the deciding factors here.
