well /k/?

What did you think?

It was pretty fucking great.

I'd love to see more lesser-known conflicts get this kind of treatment on Netflix.
>>
Why did he replace a sniper rifle with a Bren loaded with a single .303 round
>>
No movies are ever really 100% accurate, for history or weapons... However.

This film was fucking amazing; probably the most entertaining movie I've watched in a long time. 10/10 would watch again and buy a 4k Bluray copy.
>>
>>31944715

was a great movie, but the only thing that bugged me was when the dude punched the general.

looked fake as fuck and they cut to another scene right away
>>
>>31944739
its common with many directors today. They dont know how to film a punch.
>>
Pretty great all around
>>
>>31944703
Loved it

Showed more Irish wounded than what actually happened.

Overall good job
>>
>>31944725
heavier barrel, bi-pod, effective range is 600 yards. versus Lee Enfield's 550 yards
>>
Holy shit, this movie was awesome. Great watch! I thought it was unrealistic that NONE of the men died, but that was actually the case. Maybe I've been watching too much Hollywood garbage.
>>
>>31944725
The smle guns they had were beat to shit, and bren guns are very consistent in terms of putting lead in the same spot. So much so that many machinegunners in ww2 preferred shot-out barrels.
>>
>>31945155
This is what happens when white soldiers fight black villagers. 1000 dead africans.
>>
Was the chopper a UH1? I didn't think they existed yet, let alone export versions.

Nice catch, I couldn't find any source on what helicopter was used in the siege but I know 1961 UN supplied troops in congo with this one
>>
>>31945941
After some more research im fairly sure it was this one since the pilot was Norwegian

One of the helicopters undergoing repairs after the engine blew from the machine being overloaded during aid missions. They were also hit by freaking arrows
>>
>>31944703
I'm an idiot but please someone explain how letting your troops get BTFO would avoid causing WWIII?

Looked like a trainer.

Loved it. The Irish fought with honor, and it really pains me to see how they got shit on for it by the world and their superiors.

They chose rule of cool and it was stupid.
>>31945096
>heavier barrel
Has very little to do with accuracy, harmonics are on the other hand important.
>bi pod
He could have rested the Lee-Enfield easily
>effective range
those 600 yards is effective range of a burst, the beating zone, not the placement of a single round of .303

And one of the most important things
>lock time
Open bolt vs firing pin

>>31945203
This is a regurgitated myth
>>
>>31944703
How the fuck did their prop guy get a grenade sight?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

2000% mad.
>>
>>31944703
Great action movie, effects were awesome. Lesson of the movie: the UN sucks dong and Globalism has failed since its inception
>>
>>31946067
On one side were the dictator and mining companies, aligned with western (USA) interests. On the other side was that people's socialist party, aligned with eastern (CCCP) interests. The UN troops had initially been brought in to defend the elected socialist president against the dictator's coup. Only after they got there did the UN folks realize that this was essentially a proxy war between the USA and the CCCP.
>>
>>31948136
It's hard for them to do anything when numerous members of the Security Council have interests in the UN failing. This time around, it was the "West" that wanted them to fail instead of Russia or China doing the cockblocking.

>How Clinton feels right now
>>
I'm annoyed that they failed to properly explain that the troops attacking them wanted to take them hostage & not kill them.

They needed leverage over the international community, so they thought some UN stooges would be perfect for the job.

The movie makes it look like all-out combat. Which it wasn't. It was probing actions and high volume of fire to intimidate the Irish into surrender.
Props to them for not giving in until running out of ammo. But it's not exactly the Battle of CamarĂ³n or anything...
>>
>>31944703
the film was pretty garbage to be honest. A whole lot of hollywood tropes in it like the infamous "guy runs with rounds impacting to his immediate left and right" nonsense
>>
the explosions were a little sparkly from hollywood fireworks, but everything else was great. overall pretty operator, would recommend, wouldnt watch again
>>
>>31948205
Lol, but ironically the Siege has a lot similarities to Benghazi.
>>
>>31944703
I liked it much more than I thought I would. Would recommend watching it to anyone who hasn't yet.
>>
>>31944703

Movie was just another "based on a true story" meh war movie. With the budget they had the effects were good. The dialogue was weak, but it's a fucking war movie so who cares? It's no Saving Private Ryan, but it was okay.

The guns were cool though. You could tell they made an effort in being pretty accurate. Even writing in the names of them in the script to tell the audience.

>"guy runs with rounds impacting to his immediate left and right" nonsense

Also. This. Whole lot of hollywood tropes going on. The officer who doesn't know what he's doing. The macho, especially brave Sergeant who shows said officer HOW TO BE A WARRIOR. The airplane strafe attack with bullets landing on either side of our hero running away unscathed!

Movie wasn't the greatest. I wouldn't watch it again, but I'd still watch it once.
>>
>>31948469
>The officer who doesn't know what he's doing.
what? he handled himself and commanded his troops well, his men saluted him dramatically at the end ffs. He wasnt Foxhole Norman from Band of Brothers

>The macho, especially brave Sergeant who shows said officer HOW TO BE A WARRIOR.
you didn't watch the movie did you
>>
>>31944739
Quinlan actually did have a go at an officer but he didn't punch him and it wasn't the same general
>>
It was basically boy scouts vs skinnies and of course in Hollywood fashion no whites die.
>>
Cool movie, shit gunplay
>all that spraying with the subgun
>>
shit movie, total distortion of reality
choreography was okay but combat scenes were all 10 second cuts without plot continuation
in reality the french/african mercenaries shelled the fuck out of jadotville and the irish didn't put up any real resistance
also the bit suggesting that the kongans downed the UN secretary's plane was laughable. that faggot got what was coming to him but it wasn't shot down.
>>
>>31948796
I thought so as well but wasn't it a US plane?
Implying the US shot it down
>>
>>31948796
>the irish didn't put up any real resistance

300 dead nogs and frogs isn't resisting?
>>
Privileged white ppl oppressing POC. Not good. Should be banned.
>>
>>31948696
probably because no irishmen died during the real battle

The beginning of the movie. "This inexperienced by-the-book officer doesn't know what he's doing!"

The end of the movie. "Gee he's really grown as a leader and we were wrong all along. We'll follow you to the gates of hell, Cap'n!"

This is further cemented by lines like, "They're not coming from the South they're coming from the East!" Then in the end, he was right all along. They came from the South!

These are Hollywood tropes.

>you didn't watch the movie did you

He runs into a hail of gunfire, gets on the jeep with the Vickers, and drives off the enemy by himself. He then gives his officer a look like, "That's how it's done!"

You have the memory of a nutritionally deficient African child soldier.
>>
>>31949104
that number is the supposed total for all dead katangans during the regional conflict. there were pitched battles elizabethville and the bridge between that city and jadotville. in jadotville they were surrounded and mortared for a day then surrendered. after they were released they were put on the combat line again and slaughtered nigger civilians with swedish UN troops.

it was a national disgrace in ireland until the early 2000s when they used the UN action to support further irish deployments to african shitholes.
