I do, I got a couplehistorical blades.
>swiss m1896/02 heavy cavalry saber
>swiss(?) 1830's officers spadroon
>dutch Klewang
>victorian lead cutter sword
>german jagdegen, 18th century
>german rapier blade, solingen marks, 17th century
>old walloon blade in a 19th century naval mount

pic related, the paradise mark on my rapier blade
Also, forget about medieval, except you have tons of money, 15th century originals and earlier go for astronomic prices.
>>
>>31940914
I don't collect them but I have one.
It's a Patton Sword from WW1.
I prefer Middle-eastern blades to medieval weapons, though.
I do love a good angled quillon Claymore at least.

Man, I'd love a "close enough" recreation of this longsword, but short of getting one custom made I doubt I'd ever find a pommel close to this.

As in, shipping the blade off to someone and having them make the pommel. There are people who can do it.

And I just don't think the hanwei tinker is worth investing that much money into. I already need to make a new scabbard and handle for it too

I'm really not an expert, I've never been to Japan. A collector had a blade from http://www.honmamon.jp/fs/honmamon/c/gr595
And for the price it is insane, tamahagane steel sandwich construction for the blade, buffalo horn fittings and mahagoni handle, and everything perfect. those will run you $200-300.
There are cheaper models which use paper steel instead of tamahagane, they run around $100, and make no mistake, they are still insane quality and sharp as fuck.
best check some knife or outdoor stores wherever you may go in Japan. Other cool stuff are Kiridashi knifes, they'd make a decent neck-knife.

Ok so I am a bit of a sword collector and I am currently trying to do a swords around the world thing.

I have done quite a few important countries and then I moved to Japan and I am now looking for a katana.

I know that like 90% of them are either
-Weebshit
-Cheap wallhangers
-EDGY DAMASCUS STEEL.

I was wondering if anyone had any practical recommendations.

Are swords of Northshire Katana builder ones good if you choose good steel?
>>
>>31949556
If you moved to Japan you will never import a sword like that, they have laws against it.
>>
>>31949580
Sorry should have clarified. I mean moved to japan as In collecting swords from specific areas.

I have not Literally moved anywhere just moved on to a different country to collect.
>>
>>31949619
Oh, that makes more sense

I'd avoid them, go with ronin katana's dojo pro series, or add another $300 or so and go with their hammer forged t-10 if you want a differentially hardened blade.

Death by beheading with the use of the axe could be a terrifying prospect. The executioners often took several blows before the head was finally severed. If the executioner' axe was sharp and his aim was true, beheading was quick and relatively painless. If the instrument was blunt, the axeman inexperienced or careless, then the execution might take several strokes to sever the head. This was certainly the case in the execution by beheading of the brave Countess of Salisbury who was struck eleven times with the axe before she died.

Yo take care, Kindjals have some complex blade profiles, generally they are very thin with a springy hardness, grooves and ridges give them somewhat more rigidity, but the blades are normally thin like a chefs knife. Also, check for their asymmetric grooves, like you hold the blade out, and the top-side ridge is on the right and the bottom one on the left.
have fun hammering

Contributing, its possible that this sabre will turn 1000 years old soon, and was first owned by the first king of Hungary.

Serious question, why have a sword when you can just have a gun?
I mean, practicing swordmanship seems like a waste of time when someone with 0 training can just shoot you with a gun..

Why not both? I own a bunch of guns and a couple nice swords. I've got no idea how to use the swords, but I like the look and feel.

I do collect historic arms and I admire the beauty and workmanship of old blades, I enjoy the history behind it and love how a good blade looks and feels like.
Fencing (HEMA) is a hobby, I like it, I give a shit if it is ultra nerdy, because it makes me work out twice a week and go running 10 miles a week, and whatever keeps the lard of my ass is a good thing.
I would also into collecting guns, given they look like pic related
>yes good sir, thats a over under double barrel wheel lock, nice that you ask

If you have no idea how to use swords aren't you esentially putting yourself at more risk...?
It seems to me getting yourself hurt with a sword or such is harder then shooting yourself in the leg or such.

Is that AN over under double barrel wheel lock?
Sexy.

Has it ever occurred to you that some people just like swords for their beauty and historic value ratter than self defense? The occasional /k/tard that thinks swords are a viable self defense optiona usually are underage mall ninja fags that buy shit from Cold Steel or BudK.

Yes ofcourse, but those weapons sure ain't cheap are they? And it's not like we'ret all Mr. Trump are we?
To each their own though.

At risk of what? Do you think people just carry a sword around for self defense or that I don't just have a shotgun for home defense?

People can have hobbies anon

Let me put it this way, I do see the advantages of a modern handgun, it is just that I currently have no need for one and my personal situation has a couple reasons not to own one. So I rather buy me an old sabre and be happy with that.
Thats said, I think old guns are ultra sexy, but as you said, they are above my pay grade.

I'm not swinging the thing around. It's a sword that could be used if I knew how, but I've just got it on display right now.
