Hey /k/ I plan on doing some coyote hunting in the near future. Wondering if you have any advice for me, I.E. weapon, caliber, tactics. Any information is helpful.

>weapons
Do you live near and hunt over open fields, or are you chasing the caniggers in forests? Flat-shooting rifle for the former, shotgun for the latter.
>caliber
Literally anything from .22mag up. They're not exactly robust critters.
>tactics
Try to hunt with a partner, they're sneaky. Try to stay downwind of your shooting lanes. Invest in good binoculars if you're planning on hunting open areas. Electronic calls work decently well. Camo is 100% required.

I've taken coyotes with everything from a 10/22 with subsonic LRN or a 20ga with quail loads to a .338RUM at 1300+ yards. That should give you an idea of the caliber range you can use for them (don't recommend either extreme though).

witnessed

.223 is a great caliber for them. Small hole so you can keep the pelt if you want.

A lot of waiting is done with yotes.

Get a blind, open space, a caller of some sort, get a moving decoy. Dying rabbit noises are great.

What is your location, coyotes vary wildly across regions of the US?
>>
>>31938252
Eastern Canada. They're extra dart here because they're like 50% wolf.
>>
What about bait, I've heard some people say baiting is a good idea and some people say it's not? I have no problem bring meat or harvested small game, but people tell me they would get suspicious.
>>
>>31938240
>>31938248
I agree with most of this. Camo isn't required. Your ability to be silent and mask your sent is. If their in the area and have interest in your property they will show up and you just wait op. They can be shy and suspect you're there but as long as your calm and keep your distance they will come in. If it's a lot of em and you have the land I would honestly put bait out with a large double digit charge of tannerite. Just cake the tannerite in bullshit their gonna love.

If it's a few or one (a scout pretty much. Its how they work) I would just keep it 223/5.56x45. 22 mag I have no issues with. It gets the job done very well.
>>
Claymores.

That or just get a Mini 14 and find a comfy spot to wait.
>>
>>31938308
Idk, coyotes Hunt with sight as well as smell. I wouldn't forgo the camouflage.
>>
Find a kitten and hit it with a shovel. They will come for it when it yells. If you get them quick enough you can reuse it.
>>
>>31938264
Stick with an intermediate centerfire caliber, your targets are too big for rimfire and smaller centerfire cartridges.

I have a buddy who does a lot of coyote hunting who uses a .204 Ruger, but a .223 will work just fine.

I thought about actually doing this but with rabbits, is this illegal?
>>
>>31938514
Is animal cruelty a crime in your country? If so, then yes.
>>
>>31938524
But trained bait dogs are a thing.
>>
>>31938308
At least here (midwest) some form of visual concealment is 1000% required if you want even the slightest chance of seeing a coyote. Now whether this is a blind or camo clothing is up to you.

BTW they've learned to look up in trees here, too many people blasting them from treestands during durr season.

Tell that to this poor Bastard. Plus they make nice coats and mittens. Idk if the meat is any good but I bet a can trick a few local Chinese restaurants.
>>
30-06 Is the bare minimum. You want at least 4k Joules at the muzzle else they may tank and rip you apart.
>>
>>31938807
I blast coyotes with my VZ58 all day and can confirm 7.62x39 is basically an instant kill
>>
>>31938678
The meat sucks. Aftertaste of wet dog always. It's a survival food. Asians don't eat dog cause it's good... They eat it cause it's cheap. Also FMJ 9mm or 7.62x39 works great and makes 2 small holes hardly noticeable in the pelt. I blast these little shits while doing ranch work.
>>
>>31938514
I would be more concerned with the state of your mind if you have no issue in hurting and prolonging the suffering of an innocent animal on purpose.
>>
>>31938678
Shit, they can sure be vicious little bastards. If I was into hunting I would try my luck with one of them, are they good game for newbies?
>>
>>31941262
I guess I wasn't quite stating the obvious in that I didn't plan on actually hitting the rabbit with a shovel just to draw the coyote. Not that I'm overly worried about your opinion of me.
>>
>>31941343
Yeah you are.
>>
>>31938529
You beat those dogs with a shovel.
>>
>>31938353
>>31938514

Guys actually do bait coyotes with barn cats.
>>
>>31941284
Not really. Involves a lot of calling, camouflage, and not moving or making any noise.
>>
>>31941443
What if I want to fap in the middle of the stalking?

Um, I mean pee, pee.
>>
>>31941400
*Dont
>>
Would a blind or a stand be a better option? Or is it just a matter of preference?
>>
>>31941421
A better idea is a live chicken. They cackle when nervous answer roosters crow to locate their flock.
>>
>>31941597
Well that ruined the previous post.
>>
What is this nonsense about beating a coyote to death with a shovel?
>>
>>31941645
I don't think that would be the best way to bag a coyote.

Anything else and you're doing it wrong.
>>
>>31941343
So if you're not going to hit the rabbit with the shovel, what are you planning to do with that shovel?
>>
>>31942400
Use it as a long distance thrown spear, hopefully beheading the coyote.
>>
>>31941645
Shovels are the natural enemy to coyotes.
>>
>>31942459
I remember the great shovel/coyote war of 1986
>>
coyotes are pussies, and stupid pussies because they attack felines.

just run after it and curb stomp it
>>
>>31942509
Very few do. It was a massacre.
>>
>>31942527
Honestly this isn't bad advice. Around here you can even sneak up on them because they have no enemies. My friend stabbed one. He said he was pissed when it ran because it took his favorite knife.
>>
>>31942590
I won't be snaking up on any coyotes around my home town. They're smarter than your average grad student up here.
