I refinished this straight pull a few months ago and it turned out great

I got a mid 80s mk2 FN High Power.

sweaty jew palms has removd the black paint and the parkerization from the grip.

If i refinish it. I'm going to have to get it blasted down to all bare metal, aren't i?

ive never tried to strip anything parkerized before so i dont know man, ive just got a cheap hungarian Hi Power, its all blued steel

Can stainless steel be blued? I've got a sr1911 I wouldn't mind trying to blue.

Also, has anyone here had their gun nitrided/melanited? It seems to me that would be a good finish for a gun. I've been looking for a place that does it, but they either won't answer my emails, or only do large batches for production.

got any tips for rust bluing? my pistol came out splotchy when i did it.

stainless steel can be cerakoted to be like bluing. It's not really possible to actually blue a stainless pistol since most bluing is actually fine layers of oxide. (annodizing, rust bluing etc)

I figured as much, I don't really care so much about how the finish looks, I really only want to get it finished for corrosion resistance.

When you have a gun cerakoted, do they do the inside of the frame and slide also?

They polished them like crazy before they were blued.

It just seems prone to slight rust, I take off the grips and take the gun apart to oil it once a week or so, and I find little spots of rust.

I don't even really take it anywhere humid, it usually sits in my nightstand, or comes with my in my glovebox everyone in a while.

Ruger SR1911. I love the gun, but if it rusts just sitting next to my bed, I'd hate to see it after a camping trip or something.

If it's rusting just sitting on your nightstand even though you oil it weekly, it's a pretty shitty stainless. Might be a good idea to get it cerakoted.
