Questions that don't deserve their own thread thread.

What legit websites can I buy ammo from? My local gun store is bare and I want a gorillion bullets for my Saiga but I also don't want to get a call from the federal party van agency or have my credit card info ripped off.

What's /k/s opinion on the LH9? the "modernized" Daewoo pistol. Black Friday's coming up, I can't find really anything bad about it except personal taste and the da+

It's a great pistol for the price (paid $250) but at the price of the new ones I'd rather get something else.

Was cleaning my Mini-14 and tried pulling through a .38spl or 9mm patch with an Otis pull through cable (chamber to bore) and the patch got stuck. Had to remove it by grabbing the cable with vice grips and just pulling it through with muscle grease. Bore looks fine but wish I hadn't of done that. Could I of hurt my barrel at all?

How do you clean a plate carrier? Is it just machine washable or do you have to do some fancy stuff or is it just not meant to be cleaned?

Why did I buy this?
Will it explode half way down the barrel?

Take it to a local DIY car wash and power wash it. Let it dry in the sun.

My question: My AR's trigger pin likes to slowly drift out of its hole while I'm shooting. What can I do to prevent this?

so Is there a reason why the 9mm USP is so much more expensive than the other chamberings? alternatively, why is the .40 s&w so cheap? is there some QC issue I should know about?

I just want my Half Life pistol, goddammit. I've already given up hope of ever getting a SPAS-12
>>
>>31936393
40 is cheapest cause the only people who buy 40 are forced to buy 40 or idiots. nobody smart buys 40 by choice.
>>
>>31936407
whats wrong with .40?

not trying to start shit, I'm unfamiliar with handguns. the .45acp models aren't terribly priced.
>>
>>31936412
I'm no expert but I hear it's the epitome of a compromise that neither side (9mm or .45) likes

9mm wants hella capacity, .45 wants hella oomph, .40 delivers neither.
>>
>>31936393
>alternatively, why is the .40 s&w so cheap
Because it's the round chosen by law enforcement, it's like asking why 7.62x39 is so cheap. Cause there's a gorillion rounds of it manufactured for standard issue firearms.
>>
>>31936443
>Because it's the round chosen by law enforcement,
more like the round forced on law enforcement
fbi wants 10mm since 9mm is too "weak"
bitches cant handle 10mm
start downloading 10mm so everyone can handle it
40 is invented
police see fbi use 40 so they want 40
40 becomes standard issue

bunch of posurp guns in 40 flood market cause nobody actually likes 40 but its whats issued so they have to use it

recently fbi switches back to 9mm
>>

More accurate due to a more solid action.

I'm a bit retarded and I have absolutely no idea how to aim with aperture sights.

With open sights you merely align the notches with the front post and once it's level you're on target - but with apertures I just don't get it. There's nothing concrete to base or level your aim on. I understand the front post is supposed to be in the center but how do you even gauge where the center is when you're just looking through a circular hole? Is there some basic concept I'm not getting?
>>
>>31936587
thanks, I was wondering why modern bolt action is still being manufactured when semi and full auto exist.
>>
>>31936589
your eye centers the post in the hole. if you cant naturally do this something about you is fucked
>>
>>31936589
The human eye has the innate ability to center an object inside a circle
>>
>>31936604
bolt action is also just fun

I don't know how much that has to do with it though
>>
>>31936614
>>31936616

My vision is a little bit fucky, that actually completely explains my trouble with it since apertures don't give me a mechanical basis for my aim. Thanks.

Well, (here we go, eh?) I'm not gonna get into the numbers because I'm no turbo Autist, but the .40 is pretty neat in places like CalIfornia. With 10 rounds, there's no reason not to take .40 over 9mm.
And because I'm an autist, .45 is too slow to penetrate, and 9mm is too weak. .40 shines in penetration. But more likely will you be shooting in am alley, than through a car window.
There you have it. War over.
9mm is arguably the best because more chances to hit vitals,
.40 for shooting through your window or plywood n Shit (I personally have an XD-40, but too young to carry [20])
.45 is good for well.. Suppression, really. Because of it's slow velocity.
>>
>>31936617

Cycling the bolt is pretty goddamn glorious feeling.
>>
>>31936639
>there's no reason not to take .40 over 9mm.
except for the cost of training/practice
its easier to shoot 9mm than it is 40
>>
>>31935006
It's fine.
>>31935860
Yes, as long as it is fitted with a stripper clip guide. Some do not have them (they are commonly swapped for a module meant for mounting scopes).
>>31936010
FNS-9 runs $500 new, you're saving all of $20 by going for a .40 (presumably a used one), unless you really like .40 S&W for some reason it's not a particularly stellar deal. I wouldn't.
>>31935876
God knows. Her entire term in office probably.
>>31936232
Lighter, cheaper, easier to maintain, typically more accurate per dollar spent and pound carried. Also more reliable since there's less shit to go wrong.
For both hunting and serious long-range shooting bolt-actions tend to be dominant because either you're going to want to carry the lightest rifle possible or the advantage of follow-up shots is simply not significant enough.
>>31936393
>>31936412
>>31936435
Most people don't like .40 because while it is more powerful than 9mm this comes at the cost of less magazine capacity, more recoil and higher ammunition cost. The boost in power is virtually negligible. Therefore, it's unpopular and .40 guns have shit resale value. Good deal when buying used if you don't mind .40 or can convert the caliber to 9mm with the cost savings.

Only advantage of .40 I've ever seen is that price/availability stays consistent during a panic when 9mm dries up and costs $1 per thanks to scalpers.

People pretty much never fucking stopped stockpiling after sandy hook.

You know how hard it is to get .22LR where I live? All the shops have a 300 bullet daily quota and run out within a couple days getting a shipment. I have to run around to the Bass Pro, the Gander Mountain, and the local gun stores to get shit. It's not as bad as two years ago, but it's still shit.

Newbie question here.

I got myself a Colt AR (yeah I know, fuck Colt). It has a classic drop-in handguard, you know the one with a ring that locks it. I was thinking about picking up an MLOK rail system, and I guess I just have to remove the handguard and the ring and I'm good to go?

>>
>>31936589
>>31936614
>>31936616
It's an optical effect, not a natural centering or whatever the fuck you guys are saying. The aperture reduces the depth of field and suppresses parallax as a result. So as long as the front sight is close to the center you can just focus on putting the front sight on target. You don't have to align the front sight in the aperture much at all.

It's like the difference between a camera with a wide vs narrow aperture.

New to guns here, thought I'd throw a question out there.
I recently zeroed in my new 22lr bolt gun on 50 meter without issue, but once I tried it out on another range reaching out to 100 meters, It hits a feet or two below the crosshair, even with the height adjustment maxed out.
It feels like I overlooked something simple since I assume shooting 22lr at 100 meters should be fine, right?

What they are saying is that the right to hunt and fish will be constitutionally respected, and that the only regulations that can ever be put on hunting and fishing are the regulations specifically approved by the state legislature.

Basically, no federal mandate, alphabet soup agency, executive order, or governor order can ever restrict hunting or fishing, only the Indiana state legislature can.

If the distance you are shooting at is beyond your repeat zero, which with zero of 50 has your zero/repeat zero as the same distance, your further shoots will be low. That's just how it works.

If you want to hit easily at 100m, you have to figure out what zero gives you a repeat a 100m.

There is nothing wrong with .40.
People who dislike it either want more ammo per mag (9mm) or more bullet per bullet (.45).
The major problem with it is that it is not too much better than 9mm to have a bigger advantage in terms of incapacitation

They are no where near as quick as they used to be on anything.

I used to get orders shipped ground the next day (one state over).

With the huge increase in gun owners, their business has skyrocketed. They are no longer the old Brownells. They've extended themselves too far and tried to grow too big. I think it's a Brownell vs Potterfield competition.

They're not terrible YET, but they aren't the same as the Brownell's of old. They used to provide top notch customer service -- now you're just another number.

Tikka T3 Lite or buy a used older bolt rifle like a pre-Freedom Group 700?

It'll be for deer/targets and it's going to be cut to 16" and threaded regardless. Also, if it doesn't have the capacity to accept external mags that's going to happen. I want .308 but I wouldn't pass up other calibers if the ammo is cheap.

I heard that AR-15s ammo breaks apart when it penetrates, so you're furniture behind a wall doesn't blow up, making them good for home defense.

Your "why" is a bit off, but its not far off. 5.56 won't over-penetrate as bad as most pistols, is more accurate vs pistols, more compact vs most shotguns, and more magazine capacity than either (local laws permitting)

Nitrogen gas piston is better than spring in every single possible way but a small initial fee. Lasts longer, more consistent groupings, more consistent strength to arm, etc.

No. The piston is a substitute for the spring, so if a springer is underlever, then that is it.

Spoilers don't work on /k/.

Most compact pistols will work well. Fingerfuck some at your LGS, see what you like. Once you find one that fits your hand nicely, rent it and shoot it.

Depending on your build you could conceal a fullsize.

As of now, a 9mm is typically enough as the bullet technology means it's damned near as good as .45, and a lot more rounds.

I just got my p220 because it was dirt cheap (400 on black friday for a range gun with very few rounds in it)

the small, medium, large is the relative size of the grip for that style. So there's a compact s, m, l, a full size s, m, L, and so on.

so long as you use a carbine buffer and carbine buffer tube. The thing about AR's is the buffer system and gas system don't have to be the same configuration, so long as each individual system is all one configuration.

depends on what you want.

Stainless is the best material for accuracy (better harmonics) has decent durability.

any coated barrel will be somewhat less accurate than an uncoated barrel, due to variances in the thickness of the coating. But durability is greatly improved.

If you want a match gun, use stainless steel w/ .223wylde chamber (most .223wylde barrels are stainless by default), if you want a tough rugged rifle get a nitride barrel with a 5.56 chamber

Stainless steel barrels can be melonited/nitrided. Mega Arms sells a bunch of them, the 16 and 18 inch barrels have 1 MOA accuracy guarantee. Melonite/nitride doesn't impact the dimensions of the barrel so they can take a match grade barrel and treat it without impacting accuracy.

Less to do with advances in body armor and more to do with the shift towards intermediate cartridge weapons. It is much more difficult to defeat 8mm, 30-06,7.62x54, and even 303 than modern cartridges.

Can't go wrong with any of Leupold's offerings. But generally people put scopes on longer-barreled hunting revolvers. Not something more compact like what you've got.

So if you really really want a scope, go leupold.

my recommendation would be either a sig or burris micro rds of some sort, (ie the fastfire or the Romeo)

I remember there was a documentary someone shared that showed the life a illegal firearm smuggled into the US from the Philippines/Thailand and how it eventually got into the US then Mexico.

It was on dailymotion when they posted it. Does anyone know about the documentary I speak of and where I could find it?

The velocity of .243 would demolish a rabbit, and is considered by many a minimum for deer.
Have you considered a bolt action in .308 and either a .22lr or air rifle?

Hey /k/ intermittent lurker here. I'm going to my first firearms safety class on Monday. Have a little experience with air guns when I was in high school but my family's pretty lib so nothing real. Any advice for someone who's starting to take advantage of his 2nd amendment rights?

Listen to your instructor very closely. Follow what he says to the letter.
Finger off the trigger AT ALL TIMES unless you're going to fire.
Always keep the gun pointed down range.
Know your local laws.
Don't register anything you don't have to.
>>
>>31961357
Well I'm wondering if there's any practical game to hunt with .45-70 (or if it could be used in HD) because as much as I love making a watermelon literally explode, the 1892 .357 Magnum goes faster, is lighter, and I don't think I have any game in my area that necessitates .45-70.
>>
>>31961372
Big game. Deer. It's a big bullet so it's loud but .357 penetrates more (worse for HD).
>>
>>31961131
I get what you're saying and that's definitely a big factor. But I've seen in person a level 3 plate stop 7.92x57 at 100 yards, and stop a Mosin at a bit over 50. Seems like that would still be useful.

Semi related. Does anyone have a good list of what NIJ rating each round corresponds to? Like pic related but better and preferably up to level 4.

Blued.

Obviously bluing is an anti-corrosion finish that reveals "bad foundation work" (bad choice of steel, inadequate lapping and polish), however these were battle rifles.

I actually was asked by one customer why to go through that much of foundational lapping and polishing before a passivation process.

He was really in the thought that various finishing treatments existed only for covering up of various flaws and dents created by firearms manufacturing process. He really thought so.

I took him to my shop and showed it what it takes. In the end he finished his own Springfield 1911.

Bolt guns at the time of fire have about 1/20 compared to semiautos by weight of moving parts while the bullet is still travelling in the barrel towards the muzzle. This is the very difference.

Bolt gun barrel is also a true barrel, not leaking gas in the middle. You may also call a true blowback action barrel the same, however in all semiautos you will have to deal with major mass inertia dynamics of semiauto action.

I have a GI scarf that was made by some "Institute for the Retarded". I bought it because of the label.

I also bought a surplus poncho liner and, while trying to fold it, realized the stitches were all over the place. in some places, the edging wasn't even sewn onto the sides. I was thinking "who fucking made this piece of shit?" The label was some institute for the blind.

Good stuff.

Isn't this a black powder rated repro revolver?

Black powder rated .44 is usually by default Not rated for much higher .44 Remington Magnum
chamber pressures. Although the cartridge would fit in the chamber.

See this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIoRFJQ2m90

Is your Walker repro really rated for smokeless .44 Remington Magnum chamber pressures?

Hello US Army soldiers,

I always here of guys who do 20 years in special operations, but then there's guys who move in and out of special operations then to conventional, to this or that etc. etc.

How can one stay in special operations while others don't? Also officers tend to get moved around a lot, so is going from say a Ranger batt to a conventional unit seen as a step down, even if its for a higher position? Why are officers always moved from say an ODA command position to an executive officer position? Wouldn't it be best to keep them in a tactical role?

pls respnd

>>
>>31962562
Check out "Inside the team room" in Youtube. Read between lines.

It's not unheard of that conventional units sometimes handle unconventional missions. And then again, about a million USD worth of training per guy units are sometimes looking after a literally menial checkpoint.

We are all in the winds of the world sometimes.

Bought an intratec ab-10 today. Any good reason i couldn't just use a die to thread the barrel for a suppressor myself?
>>
>>31962701
Ok.

You see, even here at /k/ when someone refers to "bullets" he infact wants to shoot actual wrong rounds through his gun.

You can use the projectile of course. What you need to confirm from your repro maker is that what is the recommended outer/inner rifling diameter for the projectile. If .44 rem mag bullet diameter fits the call, then it's a go.

I would also guess that a legit bullet casting die for your gun is not that expensive nor hard to find.

Thick smoke clouds, m8. Black powder is Cool.

What's the deal with running 7.62 cans on 5.56 rifles? Do you just stick the 7.62 can right onto the 5.56 muzzle device? If they're interchangeable like that, what stops you from doing the reverse and blowing up your silencer?
>>
>>31962814
Are you asking for an actual scanned CAM model? Good luck.

At the user level worries, imperial and metric should be interchangeable.

Osprey makes great gear. I routinely use my Stratos 24 innawoods. It is super comfy, holds all the shit I need it to for overnights. The hip straps wont interfere with an OWB holster also.

My bigger pack is an Oakley Icon 2.0, For a frameless pack it is remarkably well-structured. I used it for longer excursions lasting 4 days+

But that was in combination with a molle vest that carried almost all of my gear, the backpack was just food, water, clothes.
>>
>>31963229
If you are carrying up to 10-15 pounds for 10 miles a day, anything not broken goes.

But if you are up to some trekking with real weight and range, you need a real "bergen".

It's not necessarily a money issue, the real investment is in the practice of proper use. Seriously, with a generic cornershop backpack you'll carry this much. With a proper rigid fully adjustable bergen but without practice you'll carry not much more.

With a proper rucksack and proper practice you'll carry 3 to 5 times more and you'll do it comfortably.

I'll say it again. It's not necessarily a money issue to have a good rig. The actual cost is elsewhere.
